So I am banned - fuck it

I don't think I am permanently banned but it won't let me delete the tweets etc... it won't let me past the email sent for verification so I think I am screwed
Funnily enough I think one of the offending tweets was before the new rules....someone has been trawling through my timeline...well at least it stops them trying to get into women's spaces eh?

So I am banned - fuck it

I have 10 fewer followers than I had a couple of days ago. Backdating new rules is plain wrong. Trawling back through my timeline to delete is difficult (and I can’t see back more than six months) but if they can just search and find any tweet that breaks Twitter’s ridiculous new rules, then there’s nothing anyone can do to protect themselves.

One thing though, when I see all the shit that’s going down in the US and how far women in the UK have brought this discussion into the light, I’m glad to be British... and that’s something I haven’t felt in a while.

EmotionsDontEngageWithbrain · 27/11/2018 09:22

Agree Bowl They don’t comprehend women are very resourceful. When it comes to me I very forgiving, well Beryl was but when it’s others I will stand firm.

If I was tech savvy I’d start my own version of twitter. Maybe a twitter strike

This apology is intended to be received in the same spirit of maturity as it was demanded of us.

NB: FMStomp was permabanned under a different account - I helped to get that account banned, FYI, and the ban was for "using multiple accounts for hateful purposes".

Permabans may block your IP address. Hackers and botters, like FMStomp, get around this by changing the address, or so I am told. They also, I'm told, set up multiple free emails, that they use to verify new accounts, and never give their phone number.

I am told they do this to reassign their computer's address:

Click Start->Run, type cmd and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /release at the prompt window, press Enter, it will release the current IP configuration.
Type ipconfig /renew at the prompt window, press Enter, wait for a while, the DHCP server will assign a new IP address for your computer.

Plus:

I am also told they use VPN's to reset or hide the public address, although you can turn off your router for 24 hours, but I am told that hackers and trolls have used this so often, there is a risk your provider may ban you.

Hmm where one is tweeting from work (not that I'd ever do that) then obviously one's work IP comes up and if one works for a very large organisation would they prevent all new signups from that organisation? Including e.g. corporate Twitter accounts?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 27/11/2018 11:06

Twitter has stopped using IP bans - are they back to that?

Most corporate accounts wouldn't be affected; as long as they're big enough to have been verified. As the verification scheme is currently paused, that could cause some issues down the line if we are back to IP blocks...

DoctorTwo · 27/11/2018 11:46

I got a 12 hour ban for the same 'offence'. It took me a week to get back in for the same reason as you. In the end I used my laptop to sign in and it worked.

Danaquestionseverything · 27/11/2018 12:21

The fmst0mp account is interesting. I'm not on twitter but you can see stuff without having a login. Not appearing to get much likes/retweets, which is surprising considering the usual groupthink mo.

What I've observed recently is that they have had a falling out with hettysp00n and another account I can't recall, over them both calling out stompy for loosely based (muh cousins) threats against Debbie Hayton. They (stompy) were @ing a lot of TRA's accusing the others of being traitors/snitching to t3rfs, with it appears not much response.

Another really weird tweet apologising for effectively (I'm paraphrasing here) overstepping for inappropriate comments? maybe? in some sort of chat. Of course they claimed were going to take a twitter break, time frame of which is probably equivalent to the average LM break. Funnily enough they didn't seem to receive the usual outpouring of love and ego boosting comments.

I think perhaps some TRA's are attempting to distance themselves from some of the more "out there" ones. Whether a new tactic or miraculous self awareness, time will tell.

EmotionsDontEngageWithbrain · 27/11/2018 15:00

Yes I see the fm fall out, as much as I don’t find any common ground whatsoever with Hetty (I avoid) they was only one that I see that called fm up on the abuse, the rest are all to keen on resharing doxxing posts and taraget reporting.

I try not engage anymore as waste of energy prefer block button so I just comment of stuff from people I follow or post odd random rant.

The reporting of inappropriate material is never ending though, I’ve never felt urge to prove my womanliness by posting proactive pictures of myself especially including collection of sex toys to anyone from age of 13yrs to view. Twitter doesn’t care these TRAs don’t care.

Dam it. Someone cough next time. Twice now.

Changing subject the new posters floating around Www made me smile I almost asked stranger to fist bump.

KindOfAGeek · 27/11/2018 18:43

Anchor rumor, as posted on certain botters sites is they are, no they're not, your VPN just sucks, hey you did it wrong.....

So. Don't know.

It shouldn't effect your work computer, unless you work for a small employer.

Other rulez for twitter: if you intend to tweet about controversy, anon throwaway account connected to a separate email.

Mute the word "terf" and don't use pronouns on your main account. Block and mute hot and heavy.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 28/11/2018 13:43

In a "you couldn't make it up" moment, twitter has banned a trans person for misgendering themselves.

LangCleg · 28/11/2018 13:49

My boycott list has been a little painful (no more soft soft M and S babygrows, alas) but I will vote with my wallet. You fuck women over, you get not a single penny more from the House of Bowl. And that includes giants like Unilever who seem to be on board with this - I know you manufacture almost everything but I’ll drop every single product I can.

I am the same. I'm also trying hard to make positive purchases that support women and anyone in the fight. Jenni Murray's books as Christmas presents, that sort of thing.

R0wantrees · 28/11/2018 15:27

You know, for some reason I just remembered that scene from the movie "Suffragette" where they handed out badges and flowers to the women who had gone to prison for the cause.

@Glinner (Graham Linehan) has a thread with advice for people on how not to be suspended from Twitter:

twitter.com/Glinner/status/1067851394009444352

It's understandable, but I find it unfortunate that some of the advice is that people might consider deleting all of their previous tweets to prevent time line trawling to find something that can be reported. I know that I've previously bookmarked threads on interesting topics.

Glinner · 29/11/2018 19:15

I am a bit conflicted about the advice. Absolutely ridiculous that we should have to police ourselves in this way

AnyFucker · 29/11/2018 19:22

< budges up on the Naughty Step >

arranbubonicplague · 29/11/2018 19:27

I share the conflict - it's similar to the guidelines that are specific to posting on some topics on FWR here on Mumsnet.

I find the intentional disappearing of different voices from social media to be deeply troubling and I don't have a ready solution.

There are other boards or parts of social media - with a much smaller readership and/or with a very different tone & spirit. But UK media reproduce items from Twitter, Facebook, and Mumsnet - not those other places.

I do feel like writing with caution is sometimes indistinguishable from accepting some of the pre-conditioning for totalitarianism.

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 29/11/2018 19:46

Still on naughty step...still unable to access twitter.

Ban was over days ago...

I have been on twitter for a whole week having a riot dead naming and misgendering all over the place. I'm waiting for my ban to arrive when I finally become interesting but with a grand total of 9 followers I feel I may have a few weeks in me.

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 29/11/2018 21:40

I checked the Terfblocker followers and I've obviously been put on a list as over half of the 700 followers had blocked me, and I've had interactions with precisely 0% of them. 😂😂😂

Quite a cathartic night blocking everyone on the list while reporting quite a few obscene images and offensive profiles this evening.

I've had notifications on two occasions that my reports on FMStomp broke twitter rules but they stick on Twitter like a whelk to the sh*t pipe of a trawler ship. Nasty piece of work that one.

frankiesamson · 30/01/2019 16:53

I thought they're only allowed to ban people for breaking forum guidelines? Yet they seem to have broken their own guidelines by banning people simply for disagreeing with their personal points of view. Has anyone else noticed this?

I have never attacked anyone or called anyone names, nor have I ever been homophobic, transphobic or broken any forum guidelines, yet one of the MNHQ staff has recently taken to trawling through my posts & erasing them for no apparent reason. She simply puts in its place "read forum guidelines."- but I have read them, and my posts didn't break them!

Some of my erased posts were so innocuous & supporting the forum (such as suggesting people tolerate each other's differences of opinion & express theirs without personal attacks). I'm convinced this member of MNHQ staff might be trolling me (probably has done it to others too).

Is there anyone moderating the MNHQ mods?

Like many others, I'm afraid to post anything on this forum anymore.
