www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2018/11/social-media-divided-on-twitter-s-ban-of-misgendering-and-deadnaming.html

What a great way to protect sex offenders who want to hide their past, and to get rid of feminists.

Right after Wordpress suddenly added that to their rules as well:

Legally mandated belief and enforcement to lie, eh?

What times we live in.

VerbeenaBeeks · 25/11/2018 12:40

There you go then, that's why it- people obviously do it

VerbeenaBeeks · 25/11/2018 12:41

Random it there!

VerbeenaBeeks · 25/11/2018 12:44

Good to know what's next? Not sure what that means.
It's there for anyone who wants to see it, it's not exactly hidden.
Weetabix must think so too if she's already said it as well.

uglyandlovingit · 25/11/2018 12:44

But people LOVE pointing out Tommy Robinson's real name. Some refuse to call him by his preferred name of "Tommy". Surely, those calling Tommy "Stephen" should be silenced too? I'd love to see the look on LOJ's face when he's told that!

R0wantrees · 25/11/2018 12:52

Weetabix must think so too if she's already said it as well.

Verbeena all we learn from this is that you and Weetabix share similar perspectives on how women posting should construct their sentences and both of you have chosen to express this complaint today.

That's unlikely to be surprising news to many.

VerbeenaBeeks · 25/11/2018 12:56

Well stands to reason that not everyone will share the same viewpoint, so there'll be more than one of us? Oh, and I don't care how "women construct their sentences" I was just saying why the misgendering etc will be banned - on the surface it sounds ridiculous to ban it, but it runs deeper than that.

Ereshkigal · 25/11/2018 13:01

That's unlikely to be surprising news to many.

No.

sackrifice · 25/11/2018 13:04

What is the difference between 'misgendering' and 'correct-sexing'?

sanluca · 25/11/2018 14:59

So first it was not to call a transwoman 'he', then not to use 'they', now not to use their current name? It all leads us down one road: to force us to use she for a transwoman, even if they are woman hating misogynists or in the case of Karen White, a rapist.

1984

VerbeenaBeeks · 25/11/2018 15:14

now not to use their current name?

Nobody's saying you can't use their current name? Confused
Of course you can use their current name.
If you're referring to what I said upthread that's not what I said at all.

AspieAndProud · 25/11/2018 15:18

I meant the repeated use of someone's name in one sentence as they refuse to acknowledge anyone as a transwoman so won't use she.

I haven’t seen anyone refuse to acknowledge anyone as a transwoman. As a woman, yes. But not as a transwoman.

I won’t be compelled to say something I don’t believe.

If you ban me from saying ‘they’, I’ll use their name. If you ban me from using their name I’ll use any of the infinite numbers of combinations of letters the English language provides and you can fucking ban each of those in turn.

Anlaf · 25/11/2018 15:21

I think it is what you said Verbeena

Rules now are:

Must not use previous name
Must not use sex related pronouns
Must not use current name in place of chosen pronoun
Must use chosen pronouns

Any breach of rules is harassment

AspieAndProud · 25/11/2018 15:23

You think calling Ian Huntley, the rapist and murderer of young girls, a man - is harassment and intolerance?

When it comes into Ian Huntley, I think we’ve extended tolerance enough by not hanging him.

My tolerance is not infinite.

Anlaf · 25/11/2018 15:24

Or what Aspie said.

I'm setting a timer for "Must adopt kind and welcoming facial expression" and "Must use kind and deferential tone of voice" to be added to the rulebook.

AspieAndProud · 25/11/2018 15:30

I suppose I have to maintain eye contact now too.

And not fold my arms across my chest.

AspieAndProud · 25/11/2018 15:37

It’s light learning the etiquette for meeting royalty.

And not the modern British monarchy either: Genghis Khan or Vladimir The Impaler or some other monster from history.

Address them as this, rise when they enter the room, bow your head when you speak, eat with the right fork or we’ll impale your head on a spike.

AspieAndProud · 25/11/2018 15:37

Vlad. Fucking autocorrect.

LangCleg · 25/11/2018 15:38

I haven’t seen anyone refuse to acknowledge anyone as a transwoman. As a woman, yes. But not as a transwoman.

I'm afraid I do. Transsexual is the term I use. I find the appropriation of the word woman more offensive and erasing than preferred pronouns.

FermatsTheorem · 25/11/2018 15:43

I can tell you right now, Verbeena, I will never refer to Karen White, Davina Ayrton, Lisa Hauxwell, Clare Derbyshire, etc. etc. as "She." I will not do it.

Coming down a notch or two from convicted rapists and murderers, nor will I refer to people cheating their way to medals in women's sports as "she." I will not do it.

I will play "let's pretend" with trans-identifying people I know and like, in the same way that I address Christmas cards to my friend who is a vicar as "Reverend so and so". But that's a courtesy I extend to people I like, not a rule which I will allow to be imposed upon me.

VerbeenaBeeks · 25/11/2018 15:49

I think it is what you said Verbeena

No,it really isn't.

This bit you said though -
Must not use current name in place of chosen pronoun
Can you seriously not see how you're refusing to accept any transwomen at all by repeatedly using their name over and over in a sentence?
I'll use India for an example due to the threads on here sometimes (sorry India if you're reading but first eg that comes to mind!)

India has said so and so, India must think we.... etc what does India think we are etc..... completely made up sentence there but you get the gist. Instead of she. Ridiculous over use of name to make a point.
Can you really not see? I think some are never ever going to get it though.

VerbeenaBeeks · 25/11/2018 15:50

I suppose I have to maintain eye contact now too. And not fold my arms across my chest.

Confused How do you jump to that?
AspieAndProud · 25/11/2018 15:58

Ridiculous over use of name to make a point.

The ‘ridiculous over use of the name to make the point’ is the point. We won’t be forced to use female pronouns for transwomen who hate women.

Tough shit if you don’t like it.

How do you jump to that?

Because the Oxford student union recently used ‘lack of eye contact’ with ethnic minority students as an example of ‘racism’ and there’s no example of a ‘microaggression’ against any minority whatsoever that hasn’t been appropriated by TRAs.

uglyandlovingit · 25/11/2018 16:02

Has anyone asked Twitter to define "male" and "female" yet?

VerbeenaBeeks · 25/11/2018 16:23

Tough shit if you don’t like it

I don't care what you do or don't do. Just saying why it will be banned - if you don't want to see them as women no-one can force you to, but don't be surprised if people think you're intolerant towards transpeople as a result of you not wanting to see them as she.
