Please please please write a column about this:

There's a lot of insults posted on your thread but no actual arguments to refute what you said.

I think in the minds of the ones who shout 't*rf', that is a refutation of all arguments - just as shouting 'witch' or 'commie' or 'deviationist' negated all dissident views, however eloquently expressed. It's all you need: just label someone a heretic, then your work is done and you can move on to blacklisting or book burning, or whatever's next on the to-do list.

UpstartCrow · 21/11/2018 19:03

Dammit you're right. Every day I find I have to lower my expectations of other people a bit more, and they weren't high to start with.

PebbleDashed · 21/11/2018 19:04

Book burning and the word heretic are crucial terms there.

This isn't just about the entirety of women's experiences with men being thrown under a bus. This is about the promotion of magical thinking. Both the idea that men can turn into women: the idea that feelings are more relevant than reality: and the idea that violent men will suddenly, this time, will be different and will suddenly, this time, be better people, and suddenly, this time, not hurt women.

Theinconstantgardener · 21/11/2018 19:08

'I see someone in their soul'
How anyone can spout twaddle like this with a straight face is beyond me. Davies arguments were really good too. The ultimate irony, a man - a Tory at that- being gc whilst a load of women continue to slurp the Koolaid

KenDoddsDadsDogsDead18 · 21/11/2018 19:10

Thought terminating cliches. That's an expression I learned on here. Look under Graham's thread for examples in action.

deepwatersolo · 21/11/2018 19:11

Layla Moran is so dense and kitsch at the same time, she should write country song texts (the dense sort).
The mere idea of looking into the souls of the people I meet in changing rooms...

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 21/11/2018 19:12

I think in the minds of the ones who shout 'trf', that is a refutation of all arguments*

i think that's right

when you're head is ringing with cognitive dissonance simple mantras are probably helpful

ErrolTheDragon · 21/11/2018 19:13

Is it just me who got a mental image of Father Dougal trying to comprehend that twaddle?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/11/2018 19:15

Spider babies...

KenDoddsDadsDogsDead18 · 21/11/2018 19:16

Layla Moran looks so prim compared to all the woke, outlandish stuff she comes out with. Just goes to show about the not judging books by covers, etc.

AncientLights · 21/11/2018 19:17

Dear old Hieronymous Tosh, who is well-named imho, resorts to the 'lives endangered' and 'hateful' rhetoric. They have no imagination, that lot.

VickyEadie · 21/11/2018 19:20

I think my favourite comment on Graham's thread is "Because transmen aren't a thing, eh?" Like it means Shit.

AlexInSnow · 21/11/2018 19:20

X-ray Layla Moran the LD MP who can see the soul underneath the human body.

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/11/2018 19:21

I’ve said it before but this in itself is a symptom of a sickness in society. Our universities should be producing young people who will confront ideas they find unpleasant, read and research them, and then formulate arguments as to why they disagree. Instead, they are told that exposure to ‘bad’thoughts and ideas can actually harm them. so we end up with no platforming, no debate and students unwilling to confront ideas outside their comfort zone.
They are unable to debate. They are unable to say WHY they disagree. And so the only recourse left is to abuse the opponent, to shoot them down.
That only works if you have a society where trial by popularity exists, and where ID politics has left us with a ladder of victimhood. It feeds that sickness.

I worry what such fragile and insulated young people would do if they found themselves facing actual tyranny. And I wonder how they will face the harder moments of their lives with any kind of resilience.

pombear · 21/11/2018 19:21

Glinner

Yep, UK women are taking a stand. And we might not be 'nice'. Uh oh Shock

Standing in line with random men like you who are also not being very nice, aka, speaking out against the 'why can't you just be nice and ignore reality'.

And taking the flak for doing so (fully supported, I'm sure, by your partner in crime - waves to a random mumsnetter who is, in fact, your wife. Hi Ms/Mrs/Mx Glinner Smile)

It might have worked elsewhere, but we're the 'everybody puuuuuullll' faction in the UK.

The level of debate on that thread you've linked is awesome:- 'twaddle' 'terf'.

PS If you can get Richard A on board too, on top of a gif, that would be helpful.

AncientLights · 21/11/2018 19:23

I don't think Layla Moran would like to see what's going on in my soul at the moment. How can women spout this utter crap? Maybe she is ok with changing next to a 'woman' with a beard, and erection perhaps, but I am not and that woman does not speak for me.

Graham, I do so hope you are working on turning this shit show into one of your works of art to be aired when we've clawed our way out. Please God.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/11/2018 19:25

Oi stop looking at my soul!

The mere idea of looking into the souls of the people I meet in changing rooms... Whilst comparing beards Hmm

gendercritter · 21/11/2018 19:29

Keep it up Glinner! So grateful that you're tackling this. A friend of a friend was talking on Facebook about how you'd been mean and so the police had had to pay you a visit to sort you out. He said he wouldn't watch any more of your shows. That's you told! (I'll have to watch them twice as much to make up for the loss of him)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/11/2018 19:29

I like to think that I have the soul of a polar bear.

AncientLights · 21/11/2018 19:30

Oh I love Richard Ayoade. He's very welcome on board.

How did we get here? Is it a perfect storm of internet popularity, 'my opinion has the same value as your hard evidence', smaller families and more 'precious' children who cannot be gainsaid, 50% of kids going to uni, return to belief in irrationality?
