I've received a twelve-hour ban from Twitter so I thought I'd take the chance to say hello lovely mumsnetters! Thank you for all the support and kind words and very proud to be on your side.

I'm not deleting the tweets because I stand by them and there's nothing offensive about them. See for thyself, fellow witches!

Hello Glinner [like guest arriving at party at approx 4.30 am and expecting to be greeted as if they were on time]

Just to say that my teenage son and I bond over the IT Crowd. Thank you.

This 'thing' has been a long time coming for me. But like vivarium, I have in the past done a health service job with trans people, and it brought up so much past shit about my own female history I could barely do my job at all. My bosses said I could stop doing that job for trans people - a good idea all round as I clearly wasn't the right person for it, and apparently it's not unusual to find it difficult to cope with - but in the end as soon as I could I jumped out of that whole area of work, because I'm afraid of being in that situation again.

I do worry that this is hurtful for trans people. I don't want anyone to suffer or feel suicidal, Jesus of course I don't, my husband took his life this year and I think toxic masculinity is one of the many, many strands that led him to that place. But I can't say that transwomen are women. I can't and I won't.

I also feel more confident that my views may be valid, because contrary to F4's posts, I met a professional who works somewhere very relevant to this debate and if anything they feel more strongly than I do.

pombear · 18/11/2018 00:16

Glinner - at the risk of being a stuck record on Mumsnet.

if you don't have time, start from about 4 minutes in to Tara's film for the definition of 'trans'.

And do feel free to view the very last couple of minutes of the video. (tl:dr breast cancer for trans people may be more distressing than those for those with just, you know, normal boring breast cancer).

candidpeel · 18/11/2018 00:23

Glinner (if you are still here at this party, and assuming there is some kind of comedy showbiz WhatsApp group or something Grin ) .... Could you have a word with/ get a message to Lenny about this ?

Hello Glinner [like guest arriving at party at approx 4.30 am and expecting to be greeted as if they were on time

More to the point, most of the guests are either (a) drunk and belligerent or (b) telling their lifelong worst enemies that they really secretly love them or (c) asleep on beanbags, and, in one case, in the bath.

groundcontroltomontydon · 18/11/2018 00:32

We do a lot of talking about cakes here while the MRAs pile on. So someone could probably smuggle you in a file.
Or a jumperGrin
It's the slick and unchallenged misappropriation and misapplication of human rights to justify the dismantling of safeguarding measures and to silence women (and our supporters) that horrifies me most and made the scales fall from my eyes.

Haworthia · 18/11/2018 00:46

Well hello, Mr Linehan sir.

For some reason I’m channeling Kryten tonight.

Thank you for being brave enough to stick your head above the parapet.

Binglebong · 18/11/2018 01:05

Haha if you think this place is bad try the Doghouse. Or any thread with dogs in it.

You'll want a stiff drink first.

VisitorsEntrance · 18/11/2018 01:51

Will you be popping in to join other threads? Much fun to be had discussing parking, putting petrol in the car or eating badgers.

Creepycaterpillar · 18/11/2018 08:09

Glad to see you have made it here Graham!

tarziew · 18/11/2018 08:15

So I just got on Twitter after a break and I’m heartened to see the overwhelming number of comments criticising Comic Relief for putting a trans woman as their ‘inspirational woman’. I’m aware there is another thread about this but just wanted to share the positive news. People are calling out this bullshit in much greater numbers. So happy 😀

tiktok · 18/11/2018 09:28

I've seen the mad Stonewall Umbrella but I'd never seen the Tara Hewitt video. Blimey. Did no one ask afterwards something like 'so someone who wears women's clothing as a sexual fetish on a Saturday night and calls himself Barbara should be placed on a women's only ward next to my frail and highly modest grandmother?'

And the stats! 0MG, the stats....

(Thanks for the kind comments about me upthread, but don't want to derail, just acknowledge 😀).

ALittleBitofVitriol · 18/11/2018 09:42

Beanbags? Well la di dah! What's wrong wut the floor eh?

Grin Big big fan all the way from Aus Mr Lineham, black books is the best thing that has ever existed or ever will exist.

Best. Thread.

I’m heartened to see the overwhelming number of comments criticising Comic Relief for putting a trans woman as their ‘inspirational woman’

Summary of background by Maya Forstater:
(extract)
"Well thats disappointing by @ comicrelief . Here is the backstory: One of their four strategic funding priorities is "Empowering women and girls to be free to lead the lives they choose" which they brand as " #genderjustice"
The funding strategy is all about ensuring women & girls voices are heard in policy conversations through vibrant, active feminist movements. Tackling violence against women, and improving understanding about the influence of gender norms
Presumably CR & their partners understand women & girls to be female people ♀️. Not people who identify w or are defined by stereotypes of femininity 💃(because thats the basis of feminism). At the same time they want to support human rights of transgender people (which is good)
But they don't seem to have thought this thru. & their new social media manager seems to have got the shorthand 'gender' (= women & girls) confused w gender meaning 'transgender' and has been busy tweeting about emojis & self ID (does CR have an organisational position?).
This culminated with the launch of "Women Wednesdays" a series of blogs for gender justice November focused on "women who have created change and spearheaded movements for other women" in which they choose someone who is not a woman
This got quite a lot of pushback from "vibrant, active feminist movements" like the women of @ MumsnetTowers (who started making a list of inspirational women), and the marvellous campaigner & fundraiser on VAWG @ JeanHatchet" (continues)

Midnight21 · 18/11/2018 09:47

My moment of clarity came like a bolt from the blue.
After watching from afar for years (had a daughter with gender issuesin her teens) the straw that broke the camels back happened quickly.
I have an employee,a young transman.Never been any issue.
Got an email to our company email address informing me firstly that he is "trans" and that he was a "terf" & I should sack him for being transphobic.
It puzzled me.No name to the emailetc.
Had a chat & it transpired he had been banned from FB.He had been harassed by trans "activists" for a simple statement "I am female and will never be male"
I was horrified & started looking & watching on SM.Could see exactly what this was & is.A vehicle to abuse women, parents, transexuals who don't toe the line etc.
Since then he has continued to be harassed, his personal details were publish online so no longer uses sm.
3 times by 3 different activists he has been "outed" to me.Each time the same thing.
Thats how I got here.

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 18/11/2018 10:15

Thats awful @Midnight21 - the same things that TRAs claim they experience socially such as bullying, doxxing. Deadnaming, harassment they are happy to enact on anyone who won't bow down to the rhetoric.

Mumfun · 18/11/2018 10:26

Awful Midnight21. So shows how the TRAs operate- thanks for speaking out what gets sent to employers!

FermatsTheorem · 18/11/2018 10:35

And thank you Midnight for being the sort of employer who stands up for their employees in the face of this sort of bullying campaign.

KatVonGulag · 18/11/2018 10:42

Hmm

glinner I think this may be referring to you.

In which case I thoroughly apologise for being part of the depths of the internet who've made you deluded.

Given that it's mainly mothers here I think you could quite validly claim it was enchantment by wicked evil women (noun: adult human females) and put in for us to be burned.

KatVonGulag · 18/11/2018 10:44

That's awful midnight21 these people are bullies.

FermatsTheorem · 18/11/2018 10:46

Yes Kat I fear so.
