I've received a twelve-hour ban from Twitter so I thought I'd take the chance to say hello lovely mumsnetters! Thank you for all the support and kind words and very proud to be on your side.

I'm not deleting the tweets because I stand by them and there's nothing offensive about them. See for thyself, fellow witches!

An emergency mirror of gendertrender is gendertrender.co/ back up, I'm relieved to say.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 17/11/2018 19:15

That mimmymum thread is a bit sparse, isn't it, R0wantrees? I thought there were thousands of Mermaids supporters just busting to support anything they posted. Or is that not true either?

R0wantrees · 17/11/2018 19:19

Prawn I don't think Helen from Mermaids ever has a huge number of retweets but she is very prolific and of course, the retweets can be retweeted and retweeted etc

ShackUp · 17/11/2018 19:22

❤️ you @Glinner, I lurk on your Twitter thread but I'm a teacher so it's basically impossible to have a GC Twitter profile.

Everyone I've spoken to supports your stance and applauds you for supporting women.

Keep on keeping on Wine

ShackUp · 17/11/2018 19:24

@tiktok thank you for all the breastfeeding advice btw, I've been doing it non-stop for 6years (2 boys!). You've helped me enormously. sorry for derail

Feminist4 · 17/11/2018 19:43

Well, I'd just like to say that my trans daughter is feeling suicidal at the moment because of the demonisation of trans women. I understand why Open Democracy go after Mumsnet. It is because of the horrid, scare-mongering and the frequent attempts to associate trans women with rapists. Anyone who stands up against this nasty trashing of trans women has my respect. How did this witch hunt of trans women happen? It is such a nasty way to fight a (misguided) and absurd belief that allowing trans women to self identify is taking rights away from women. It is also targeting a minority group who are already suffering. Why does everyone want to kick someone who is already struggling in a society that ridicules and sneers at them.

BettyDuMonde · 17/11/2018 19:50

What witch hunt?

I don’t wish suicidality on anyone but blaming strangers on the internet for mental health issues doesn’t give anyone the tools they need for a happier life.

Talking therapy will help.

Feminist4 · 17/11/2018 19:54

Mumsnet boards nearly always have some mention of a rapist and trans women in it. It appears to be one of the main arguments. I have reported countless posts which suggest trans women are potential rapists of someone's 12 year old dd.

FermatsTheorem · 17/11/2018 19:54

Another person saying "thank you Tiktok for all the BF support over the years."

Bimwit · 17/11/2018 19:57

How did the witch hunt of transwomen happen? When transwomen raped women, really. If you're not the rapey transwomen described here, why would you have an issue? Hmm

sackrifice · 17/11/2018 19:57

Why is your 12 year old on Mumsnet reading up about this?

BettyDuMonde · 17/11/2018 19:59

All penis-owners are potential rapists. That’s been a central theory of feminism since the 1970s.

It’s not a trans thing, it’s a penis thing.

I’m the mother of a penis-owner too. I don’t get cross at Feminism, I teach my kid to respect boundaries and to have the tools to understand consent and the language to give it, as well as the grace to accept it when it’s not given.

R0wantrees · 17/11/2018 19:59

I understand why Open Democracy go after Mumsnet.

A young journalist wrote an article & seems to have been heavily influenced by some influential TRAs.

Its a poor piece of writing.

Feminist4 · 17/11/2018 20:00

Sacrifice - you need to read more carefully. That is not what I said

Feminist4 · 17/11/2018 20:00

So if it is a penis thing, then why are you singling out trans women and not all rapists in these posts?

BettyDuMonde · 17/11/2018 20:01

We aren’t. Presumably, you only read the trans threads?

FermatsTheorem · 17/11/2018 20:01

F4 pops up on a weekly basis with this. It has been suggested previously that F4 might be better employed getting their daughter off social media and helping her to get the professional psychiatric support she clearly needs for her suicidal ideation, but apparently F4 thinks that their time is better spent endlessly derailing threads on mumsnet. I suggest disengaging as I'm not entirely convinced F4 posts here in good faith, or indeed, that all the things F4 posts are entirely accurate.

Feminist4 · 17/11/2018 20:01

And if it is a male violence thing. Why do you completely ignore the violence against trans women.

BettyDuMonde · 17/11/2018 20:04

We don’t. It’s just that Male on male violence isn’t feminism’s problem to solve. Women have less power than men, we can’t do everything, we have to prioritise.

Bowlofbabelfish · 17/11/2018 20:05

Why do you completely ignore the violence against trans women.

All violence is abhorrent.

At the same time, arent transwomen LESS likely to be murdered than women? Or almost any other minority group?

Can you give some concrete figures for the number of transwomen murdered recently? I’m aware of one case last year. Obviously, even one death is too many - how many women were murdered last year?

R0wantrees · 17/11/2018 20:05

I have reported countless posts which suggest trans women are potential rapists of someone's 12 year old dd.

Males are potential rapists of girls and women.
The key word is potential.

It would be irresponsible to tell a 12 year old girl that some males by dint of their gender identity were absolutely not.

ScipioAfricanus · 17/11/2018 20:05

Hello to Glinner! I’m a teacher but not working at the moment and considering a career change so have decided to be openly GC. I started peak transing when I had to fill in a questionnaire at work about LGBT in my lessons in preparation for trans training. I do talk, from time to time, about gender and sexuality when it comes up, and the idea that I would have to affirm a belief against my principles (which are very open and accepting, but which do not contradict biology) shocked me. Then I read more about it all, Cordelia Fine etc, then got caught up in the GRA reform discussion, and now I am thoroughly GC. I support all my pupils and I do not preach my views in the classroom but I will not reaffirm a belief I do not hold. I also see social contagion at work every day and am therefore very cautious around these expressions of identity.

Thank you for standing up for women and thank you for all the laughs over the years.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 17/11/2018 20:06

Talking therapy will help

Talking therapy for distressed gender dysphoric teens is no longer allowed. Only affirmation that they are trans and in need of a load of physically harmful interventions.

Feminist4 · 17/11/2018 20:06

Fermat. My daughter is well supported by her family and friends. Sadly, the 'safe' trans spaces on social media have been hijacked by transphobes. Even just sitting on a bus she finds herself sitting next to someone reading an ugly transphobic story in the Daily Mail. It is everywhere and is hard to escape. It makes trans people feel frightened, ashamed and freakish. Yes, she probably does need more support. Anyone who is in a group that is being targeted and attacked needs support. That is why come on here, to fight her corner.

BettyDuMonde · 17/11/2018 20:09

Anyone who is in a group that is being targeted and attacked needs support

Absolutely. That’s why I am standing up for women and girls.
