"Believe in innate gender or else - say the police". Jonny Best's latest article

Really clear and well-argued.

I thought this bit was especially telling:

The publication of the trans tool kit illustrates the risks to all organisations which choose to rely on Stonewall for advice on transgender issues. The police have stumbled into a complex area which they appear not to properly understand — and Stonewall is not telling its client organisations the whole story.

Very good. And depressing! If I understood correctly, not believing that female is a feeling is technically a hate crime according to the police (but thankfully not the law - yet).

PebbleDashed · 15/11/2018 18:33

Yet rape isn't. And they expect women to just shut up and support this.

AncientLights · 15/11/2018 18:43

He says the Human Rights Act 2010 - isn't it 1998? Whatever, his usual clear & concise arguments. I always look forward to reading his stuff.

JonnyBest · 15/11/2018 18:46

AncientLights - you're right, I was thinking of the EA! Corrected - thanks!

Weezol · 15/11/2018 18:48

I assume the Police are paying for Stonewall's 'consultancy services' - how much has this actually cost?

NotMeOhNo · 15/11/2018 18:52

Excellent piece.

goodthinking99 · 15/11/2018 19:01

This is very clear and very worrying. I cannot thank Johnny and all the other clear thinkers, Doc Stock etc., for articulating the issues with such grace. What I still can't fathom is how we got to this point. My mind is truly boggled.

Doobigetta · 15/11/2018 19:03

Great article, thanks Jonny. I’m meeting my MP tomorrow and am going to lead with recent police pronouncements, in particular about transwomen and non-binary males being allowed to conduct intimate searches of women. I’ll be taking a copy of your article with me.

theOtherPamAyres · 15/11/2018 19:06

Every single Chief Constable, Police and Crime Commissioner and LBGT Diversity unit in the police service needs to have that article placed underneath their noses.

goodthinking99 · 15/11/2018 19:10

I cannot thank Jonny, Doc S etc. ENOUGH...I told you my mind is boggled Blush

deepwatersolo · 15/11/2018 19:14

Great article! So are Stonewall bad faith actors, who kowingly deceive to further an agenda and try to establish facts, or are they just out of their depth?

scepticalwoman · 15/11/2018 19:29

What a chilling development.

1MillionSelfiesTakenByMyKids · 15/11/2018 19:30

Well that is the million dollar question isn't it?

Laceythesheep · 15/11/2018 19:33

I asked some police today about traumatised women who didnt want a man who said he was a woman searching them. They were a bit non-plussed but mumbled about rights and a case by case basis.

happydappy2 · 15/11/2018 19:34

Stonewall are a charity so focused on money they don’t care where it comes from. They have become a mens rights organisation that clearly has NO respect for lesbians (or women in general) The fact they can’t see that womens fears about trans ideology are valid, speaks volumes, they are blinkered & quite frankly not fit to be advising anyone.

UpstartCrow · 15/11/2018 19:36

They were a bit non-plussed but mumbled about rights and a case by case basis.

And thats how Karen White got away with it.

Shiklah · 15/11/2018 19:48

Is this to try and stop women protesting because they are so afraid of being searched?

Hulo · 15/11/2018 19:50

Hmph. Maybe we should all turn ourselves in

Popchyk · 15/11/2018 19:50

Superintendent Clinton Blackburn on Twitter, saying:

"There was an error in the Guidance glossary, which has now been ammended. All forces have been asked to update accordingly. We are sorry if this has caused any distress- it certainly wasn't intended"

twitter.com/SuptBlackburn/status/1063103458922913794

Doesn't say what the error was. He doesn't seem to do detail, this guy.

Looks like the definition of transphobia has changed though.

It was:

The fear or dislike of someone based on their being trans, including the denial/refusal to accept their gender identity. Any incidence of transphobia; any form of prejudice or hatred towards a person because of their actual or perceived transgender is considered a transgender hate crime.

It is now:

The fear or dislike of someone based on their being trans, including the denial/refusal to accept their gender identity.

So the hate crime bit has gone. But they've left the whole "denial/refusal to accept their gender identity" bit. Which is, as we all know, nonsense.

Threewheeler1 · 15/11/2018 20:00

Great piece Jonny (as always).

Ambitious definition of transphobia - how are they going to police our thoughts?
Is this what the nice student body meant when they said we needed to go to the Gulags for re-education? Wrong-think, it's a crime.

happydappy2 · 15/11/2018 20:04

So if I as a woman challenge a male person in the womens changing room, & that person claims they are trans, can I demand they leave or is that a hate crime because I don’t accept their identity? This is bonkers.

Popchyk · 15/11/2018 20:05

I am going to respectfully suggest that Mr. Blackburn has allowed Stonewall to do all the writing and he intended to ride in and take all the credit.

Shame he didn't read it first.

And have a think about the law.

Stonewall's strategy is always to target someone promoted above their competence, flatter them with the "you're so awesome, here's an sparkly award, shucks let us write the report" schtick.

And these self-aggrandising idiots don't even realise that they are being played.

That's what happened with Maria Miller during the Transgender Enquiry Committee, I'm sure of it.

WineGummyBear · 15/11/2018 20:14

Awesome work again Jonny.

SlipperyLizard · 15/11/2018 21:21

Excellent work, and truly terrifying that either the police accepted the text without bothering to read it properly, or read it but didn’t actually understand that to have a “hate crime” there must first be a crime.

Either way they don’t come out looking good.

NewWomensMovement · 15/11/2018 21:52

Great article.
