No demand or complaint by someone supposedly trans is too petty or trivial and for the press to ignore.

Now self-proclaimed non-binaries apparently expect to be provided with gender-neutral toilets. Because using a restroom that isn't tailor-made exactly for their special gender identity would violate their human rights & deprive them of dignity. Or something.

It's a real mystery why this guys co-workers didn't invite him to the ladies' lunch!

Seriously. Just use the men's. Ffs. Talk about precious.

No wonderbthe all went out to lunch without him and are afraid to talk to him.. probably on egg shells the whole bloody time.

Non-binary or a third gender isn't on the cards for beeing a protected characteristic anywhere is it?

People can't seriously be demanding gender neutral loos on the basis that using either the 'mens' or 'womens' loos would cause them discomfort? Really?

Why didn't they just adds a 'mens and non-binary' sign to the men's loo, it could have been written on a sheet of A4 and stuck on with tape. I really hope they didn't spend money building a specific loo for one obstinate person.

The ladies lunch thing was mean spirited though. Being the only person left out isn't nice.

But geez Louise, is non-binary people why we are heading towards mixed loos? Why can they not shift their perception to the loo being about their biological sex?

What a twit, they were only at Powell’s a few months and already had to start throwing their weight around and be a massive pain in the arse. As mentioned in the comments in the newspaper, Powell’s is in an older building and can’t magic up a bunch of extra space to add more loos. It sounds totally unnecessary anyway, most non-special people can figure out which loo to use in a reasonable manner. “They” was just being such a narcissist taking 10 minutes to literally leave their own workplace and enter another building just because the other business loo has a “non-binary” sign on it.

Their only purpose was to draw attention to themselves and negative attention to their employer, a well-loved business in Portland that will probably have to deal with all this trans nonsense from shrill protestors. I’m sure they can’t wait to see the back of “them”.

Gender neutral? Not really a thing but hey... Everyone is 'special' these days, eh? Even if they are not.

By making sure that they were in the newspaper this article will helpfully come up for any future employers who do a quick google when considering hiring “them”.

Just reading the comments, which include “Don’t hire these people”.

So this one person creating all this publicity and ill-feeling has enabled someone to make a genuinely transphobic statement.

But I was simultaneously wondering whether this company, who’ve been proud to support LGBT until now would think twice in future before employing someone who appeared to have a similar profile in future.

If any of us were recruiting for a position, had this bloke turn up and, on thinking he was a strong candidate, did a google search and found this story, how many of us would keep him on our list of possibles?

Not an anti-trans statement -more of a warning about self entitled, self absorbed egotists who only think about themselves and how the world revolves around them. Hardly someone your want on your team

I have this take on it. A male bodied person joins a company that consists of all women, finds out he’s not going to be treated as the messiah, so decides he’s none binary. As a pp said, at anyone interested in employing him will find a very interesting background check. I wonder how long it takes before he asks for his history to be removed from the net? I can’t see trans people being very impressed with none binary people stealing their attention.

I read the article and it raised the suspicion (again) that the reason so many people who claim to be trans are “bullied” is because they are extremely difficult people.

Well, at least the ones who manage to get themselves in the newspaper!

I lived in Portland for a few years and used to read the Willamette Week regularly and I'm really surprised and heartened by the number of GC comments.

I'm going to own my prejudice now and say anyone who insists you call them zir/zee/zem is someone I would avoid talking too. For sure as eggs is eggs they are going to be difficult.

Bit sad as they will get more lonely and bitter. Someone needs to sit them down and have a word.

I’d avoid too. Partly because it’s not English and I don’t know how to conjugate verbs when dealing with made up pronouns (of which there are a wide variety). And partly because those pronouns sound like pronouns in another language I speak and they’d just get offended by my then switching into that language every bloody time.

When I really want to go anonymous I always click the "whole world" symbol on FB. It's important to let everyone know who you are right before you go anonymous.

Also and I apologise for committing literal genocide, but if zir really is the only male at zir's office then the men's toilet will only be used by zir. WHich makes it a non binary toilet, so this whole "all we want to do is pee in peace thing" looks a bit like bullshit.

I wouldn't be so quick to call the female coworkers exclusionary for having lunch without them, I imagine they has a history of making coworkers uncomfortable. I'm uncomfortable just thinking about having to work with someone who makes so many unreasonable demands. They is probably making a mistake in taking this one to the press.
