Alabanza retweeted these reviews:

BURGERZ by @travisalabanza was an absolutely phenomenal piece of work. So intricately written with such an important message, perfectly woven into a performance that felt both fierce and tender - all whilst deeply rooted in authenticity. Oh and the direction? Sublime 👌🏾

I saw the matinee of #Burgerz by @travisalabanza yesterday and it feels so special to have been there. Part emotional release, part humorous romp, part ritual - retelling and reclaiming of trauma - it was flawlessly managed and controlled. Hats off! Such strength and beauty 💜

Alabanza didn't retweet this one:

Which is a shame as it appears to be very accurate (and entertaining) Enjoy Grin

For some reason I hear "they's website" in the voice of Phil Harding from Time Team

If I get the bus and save some £s, I can donate to keep him safe from the potential threat of women not leaping to rescue him from burgers.

This genuinely infuriates me. In my life I would have spent thousands and thousands on taxis so I was safe. It has never crossed my mind to crowd fund for this. Jesus wept.

RiverTam · 05/11/2018 16:20

FFS I may have been a tad rude about Travis, but if, as a grown man, you try to force your way into a female changing room in a shop frequented by teenaged girls and then go to the press and kick up a fuss when you get stopped, you are a public figure and fair game and certainly not someone I have to be polite about.

I'm fed up of these egotistical people kicking up a fuss when the publicity they so clearly want doesn't always go their way.

RiverTam · 05/11/2018 16:21

and I'm not misgendering Travis, Travis claims to be non-binary.

FFSFFSFFS · 05/11/2018 16:29

Ah RiverTam. I see. You were being A Disrespectful Woman.

tsk tsk.

It is very sad that mumsnet silences the voices of women who are disrespectful of men who want to violate their boundaries (and when I say their I mean women, not dear Travis).

The "women must be kind" repressive tool is so deeply entrenched.

I find it surreal that a moderator would take the time to proactively confirm how a man wants to be referred to (as opposed to how he is categorised according to the English language) and then tell women off for being so rude to him and maybe upsetting his feelings.

KatVonGulag · 05/11/2018 17:06

*themzies feelingz my hobbitz

AngryAttackKittens · 05/11/2018 23:16

Has Travis threatened to sue? If so I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's not as if Travis can afford a good lawyer what with not being able to pay for taxis and all.

"So often feminist circles will use the white cis man as the emblem for all these things that are wrong, and I'm guilty of it too," Travis explains.
"But what you realise in having him on stage is that he is so much more complex. You realise, 'Oh he's hurting too. We're all hurting'."

Love. It.

Well done Trav for bringing the suffering of white men back to the centre of feminism where it should be.

I applaud thee.

LangCleg · 06/11/2018 18:10

Burgerz puts a microscope on gender

Checking for salmonella?

Ereshkigal · 06/11/2018 21:40

Well done Trav for bringing the suffering of white men back to the centre of feminism where it should be.

Oh yes. We truly need to consider their needs more.

Anyone suspect that levelling "cis" white men and white women is part of the plan here?

AncientLights · 06/11/2018 23:28

Travis wants to raise awareness of the harms done by racism, transphobia and homophobia. So does that mean Travis is gay? But if Travis is non-binary how can Travis be attracted to someone of the same sex (or gender if we're being Stonewall about it) if Travis doesn't have a sexual identity? Or has gay been redefined as NB attracted to NB and I missed the memo? My brain hurts. Again. Still.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 06/11/2018 23:34

I’m sorry they got something thrown at them, but I think I the show would have been more properly focused if it had been a sausage.

AncientLights · 06/11/2018 23:40

I wonder which makes the better missile - a burger or a sausage? I think, purely in the interests of science, I may need to do an experiment or two tomorrow.

Turph · 07/11/2018 00:54

Surely the newsbeat article is advertising? It gives a brief review and dates, like a paid for article would...naughty Beeb

Ereshkigal · 07/11/2018 08:09

It would have to be a hotdog. Travis's burger was in a bun with sauce etc.

Danaquestionseverything · 07/11/2018 12:56

I probably would have peed my pants in my attempts to stop from roaring with laughter.

Thanks for a hilarious recap I can read in private, laugh as hard as I like, with no need for depends.

OlennasWimple · 07/11/2018 18:28

Hey, can I join the MN performance art special event? I once had chips thrown at the back of my head because I carried on walking past some guys who had shouted out such witty homilies and sweet nothings as "your tits look great in that top" and "come and sit on my lap for a swivel" Confused

We have pretty much a full Happy Meal menu now, I think, especially if Mx Alabanza participates

ContessaGoesMarchingDOWNTOHELL · 07/11/2018 22:15

Ooh! I've just remembered that I had an egg thrown at me once! Can I join in?

It traumatised me sufficiently to turn me vegan Sad

Ereshkigal · 07/11/2018 22:34

Piss, Pop, Taylor Swift, Fishnets, Egg and Chips

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 07/11/2018 23:20

Piss, Pop, Taylor Swift, Fishnets, Egg and Chips

Snappy title - will be a box office smash

Ereshkigal · 07/11/2018 23:30

Perhaps it should be Chipz though?

OlennasWimple · 07/11/2018 23:39

Yes, let's go with Chipz Grin

BettyDuMonde · 08/11/2018 02:00

I like it.

For some reason it’s reminding me of the time someone painted ‘Cock, Piss, Partridge’ on Alan Partridge’s Rover 800.

Burgers: A Review
InionEile · 08/11/2018 04:45

Man, I've seen some bad student theatre in my time but 'Burgerz' sounds like it would be a lethal risk to my health. I might have an aneurysm from repressing the gales of laughter.

Does anyone take this stuff seriously? It says Travis has had a Tate residency so clearly someone is taking them seriously.

It's all so ludicrous. I miss the days when flamboyant campy men e.g. Boy George reveled in their own campiness, owned it and were proud of it, rather than moaning on because someone laughed at them or threw a burger at them.

That Leigh Bowery chap is fantastic! I'd never heard of him before. That is real performance art with a positive message and genuine flair.
