Man found guilty of murdering #trans woman Naomi Hersi. She's the latest of many trans people murdered. Yet some critics of the #GRA reforms portray all trans women as potential rapists & killers. Vile anti-trans BIGOTRY! t.co/KrH5aFUPZ3

It's not just you , Floral. That boy was massively failed by the adults in his life. But his white tshirt, combats and "confident" air makes it ok.

LangCleg · 12/11/2018 09:52

Also, Peter saying that he wants to see a change in the law so that minors of 14 or 15 having sex with each other aren't prosecuted is a big fat lie.

We do not prosecute kids of 14 or 15 in a sexual relationship with each other now.

There is no other reason to change the law other than to legitimise adult sex with minors.

This is the third or fourth time big publicity has been given to Peter's views on this. I hope it's finally the time that destroys his reputation as someone anyone should ever listen to. But I doubt it.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 12/11/2018 09:53

No, definitely not just you, Floral. I read it in horror - that boy was failed on many levels. No examination of why he was displaying sexualised behaviour at age 8. The incident with the twin sister was very disturbing.

AnyFucker · 12/11/2018 11:36

The mindset is quite clear in that "interview"

It completely and conveniently ignores all the massive screaming signposts of child sexual abuse and tries to co-opt the boy's acceptance of his abuse as a lever to reduce the age of consent

We see you Peter

Mumfun · 12/11/2018 12:24

Absolutely AF

We in 2018 have been through Savile, Rotherham, the Catholic Church, Welsh and other childrens homes and the exposure of many celebrities abusing children. We know what dodgy behaviour looks like now.

We see you

BigChocFrenzy · 12/11/2018 13:54

Julie Bindel nailed it:

@PeterTatchell
"Fuck off back to advocating sex with kids, and leave feminism the fuck alone."

BigChocFrenzy · 12/11/2018 13:55

What he writes about sex with children makes his opinions very clear

BigChocFrenzy · 12/11/2018 13:57

It's all about the wishes and the convenience of men
Women and children are unimportant collateral damage

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/11/2018 14:09

Just reading the link

when was this written?

This piece

"Even without the Sex Offenders Act, any man who has sex with Lee could face a maximum sentence of 10 years for kissing, touching, sucking or wanking, and life imprisonment for anal sex. The top penalty for the offence of “unlawful sexual intercourse” with a 14 year old girl is, in contrast, two years!"

You see I take the opposite view to Peter.
Why should men who abuse girls not get such long jail terms as men who abuse boys?
We all know the answer don't we. Homophobia + misogyny + boys are of greater value than girls + beign fucked is not what boys are "for".

Peter seems some heterosexual privilege here and would like men who prefer boys to be afforded the same privilege as men who prefer girls.

AspieAndProud · 12/11/2018 14:12

Just to repeat something I said on a previous thread: Milo Yiannopoulos’s career was killed stone dead when he admitted being at a party where someone had sex with a 15 year old boy and he didn’t report it.

The Right disassociated itself from him right away.

Tatchell isn’t just an apathetic bystander, he’s actively defending the abuse of children far younger than 15.

And the Left is sticking by him.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/11/2018 14:18

Written ages ago as age of consent was 18 for gay men.

It was discriminatory that there was a different age of consent and levels of criminality between het and gay underage sex / child abuse etc

I think the law is equal now > sex crimes are the same rape is rape irrepsctive of sex of victim for eg

However using this childs extremely discturbing story to back up the argument to reduce to 16 is bizarre.

Note they were pushing for 14 > too young. Current law and for ages has been that there is no public interest in prosecuting consensual sex between older similarly aged teens. However the law is there is it is needed.

Sounds to me like some of those men wanted prosecuitng > the ones paying for sex with an 11 yo child would be a great start.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/11/2018 14:19

ah 1997 says at the end

BigChocFrenzy · 12/11/2018 20:20

He talks about "consensual intergenerational sex"
which initially made me think of a 30 and 50 year old

then it sinks in what he really means:
excusing adult men who rape children too young to consent

What do we think of this?

"I apologise to women for distress caused by my tweet last Thursday. It wasn’t my intention to divide black & white women or disparage the feminist movement. My tweet was intended to highlight victimised Muslim women. I should not have cited the separate trans issue. So wrong! "

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 15/11/2018 14:03

His apology is not going down very well on Twitter. Gay men who don't speak up for lesbians (Julie Bindel at the Roundhouse, for instance) and instead ally themselves with heterosexual fetishists are putting men first and last. Oh, and boys like Lee...

It's a men's sexual rights movement and Peter Tatchell fits right in.

VickyEadie · 15/11/2018 15:21

He's (mostly) been given short shrift on his Twitter "apology".

StarsAndWater · 15/11/2018 15:58

I'm guessing he's apologising because he feels he has to, not because he realises he got it wrong. The comment about a separate trans issue makes that clear.
Not really interested. He's shown his true colours repeatedly. That interview with Lee could be used as a textbook example of grooming.

VickyEadie · 15/11/2018 16:20

That interview with Lee could be used as a textbook example of grooming.

Correct.

Manderleyagain · 16/11/2018 00:25

I have now officially gone off Peter tatchell. I didn't know this had already blown up in the past. I hadn't heard of his views on age of consent until recently here on Mumsnet. I wonder if it will be different this time post savile.

SunsetBeetch · 19/11/2018 06:54

So I missed this first time around. He really doesn't give the tiniest shit about women, does he?

"Last year, Labour wanted to use Human Rights Day to focus on WOMEN.Finally- misogyny as a human rights abuse! No party had done this.
I knew weeks of research & planning had gone into it.
But it was derailed - by whom?
Peter Tatchell.
This was my response"

Slight derail but I'd forgotten about this:
Corbyn further undertook to subject every piece of legislation that came before a Labour government to a stringent test to assess its impact on women: “If it works against women, it will fail that test.”
(From Louise Raw's excellent open letter to Tatchell.)

Hmmm.

Admittedly he'd probably consult Jess Bradley and Paris Lees and consider it done.

GrabEmByThePatriarchy · 19/11/2018 10:49

I'd always had such respect for so much of his activism, things like the anti-apartheid stuff and having the guts to go to Russia and put himself in the way of violent thugs when speaking up for gay people to be able to live without persecution. Watching him behave like this is painful.
