article by Lucy Bannerman
(extract)
"A victim of domestic abuse was removed as a judge of a radical thinking prize and “hounded” out of her role within the Liberal Democrats for saying that she did not believe that men who identified as women should have access to women’s refuges.

Natalie Bird, 38, a mother of two who fled an abusive former partner, was accused of “dangerous transphobia” by transgender activists in the party. She had said that opening up safe spaces without proper safeguards to anyone who said that they were female could put women at risk.

She opposed segregating women’s refuges by chosen gender instead of biological sex, and said that it was not fair to make female victims of domestic violence, abuse and rape share services with people with “functioning” male anatomy.

After being allegedly bullied on social media by party activists, Ms Bird was brought before a disciplinary hearing to face a complaint in the name of Zoe O’Connell, on behalf of the LGBT+ Liberal Democrats. The correspondence says that Ms Bird had “expressed troublesome views”.

The hearing found no evidence to support the complaint of transphobia, but Ms Bird lost her position as chairwoman of the Radical Association, made up of party members, following a vote of no confidence. This cost her her role as a judge of the Ashdown Prize for Radical Thought; an ironic move, Ms Bird said, given that the prize’s aim was to reward “big, bold, radical” solutions to society’s most “daunting problems . . . no one has the courage to argue for” (continues)

Hopefully many LibDem Members will stand in support of Natalie Bird.

O'Connell and Brown make a mockery of the LibDem priciples and their bullying abusive behaviour has been allowed to run unchecked within the party.

The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. We champion the freedom, dignity and well-being of individuals, we acknowledge and respect their right to freedom of conscience and their right to develop their talents to the full. We aim to disperse power, to foster diversity and to nurture creativity. We believe that the role of the state is to enable all citizens to attain these ideals, to contribute fully to their communities and to take part in the decisions which affect their lives.

After seeing the hulking great Challenor walking next to a normal woman sized reporter on BBC politics on Thursday, they must be some man sized nappies, that's for sure.

Yes I just watched that programme! Very obvious. No one is going to take AC for a woman.

Ereshkigal · 20/10/2018 16:15

Hence why AC thinks we shouldn't be allowed any boundaries.

FekkoTheLawyer · 20/10/2018 16:34

I wonder what they would think of someone who scares them demands access to their space.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 20/10/2018 18:39

Fatherbuzzcagney, that was brilliant.

Anyone remember that character in Police Squad (the TV series The Naked Gun was based on) who was so tall his head was never in shot?

That’s really the way to get the message across re: Challinor & Co.

Gncq · 21/10/2018 15:11

I did not know AC went to the LDs wow. A right buddy for SB they're 2 Peas in a pod.

Christ on a bike this party is doomed. How can these people be so idiotic?

Voters care right now about Brexit, about austerity and having a party to represent them when the Tories are wrecking havoc on our country. This clique of activists with their self centred identity politics and cluster B personality disorders are literally helping destroy what for many hard working people could have been a last bastion of hope.

I've never known anything like it.

Gncq · 21/10/2018 15:13

I will keep this thread saved and if anyone mentions thinking of voting Lib Dem I will direct them here.

Thank you to these twitterers for providing Moran with the attached original tweets from Sarah Brown!

Every single politician that consorts with Sarah Brown should have these sent to them every single time they do it. They cannot be allowed to pretend they do not know who Sarah Brown is. They need to answer: do they have any comment on Brown's behaviour and their very clear and constant misogynistic public behaviour, and specifically Brown's attacks on lesbians.

Oh wow I only just noticed that the "suck my formaldehyde pickled balls" tweet aimed at a lesbian was retweeted by Benjamin Cohen!

It's high time he was exposed also.

FatherBuzzCagney · 22/10/2018 12:04

"suck my formaldehyde pickled balls" tweet aimed at a lesbian

As far as I know (may be wrong) the only person that was directed to was a male local politics blogger in Cambridge. The blogger in question is widely regarded by politically active women in Cambridge (or at least all the ones I know) as a misogynist, definitely not a lesbian. It was quite fun to see these two flailing around on social media, trying to land points on each other like some third rate, provinical Gore Vidal-William F. Buckley re-run. The whole thing is laid out in excruciatingly tedious detail by the blogger in questions here

JoanSummers · 22/10/2018 12:14

Here again (attached) is the screenshot of Sarah Brown telling a lesbian via Twitter to suck his "formaldehyde pickled balls".

^ retweeted by Benjamin Cohen..

It is far from the only disgraceful thing that Brown has said to lesbian women, Brown is prolific with Brown's abuse! But Brown is able to mask much of Brown's abuse directed at lesbians by simply using the word terf.

Brown's intent is clear and it shows when Brown's mask slips, as during the tweets shared on this thread.

[Reposted because of the accurate pronoun slip in my previous post, which was accidental as obviously I'd hate to break the Mumsnet rule that we should use the preferred pronouns of any person, regardless of how abusive and misogynist they might be, or how clear their actual sex is]

FatherBuzzCagney · 22/10/2018 12:39

Apologies, had missed that - so it's a term Brown used repeatedly. Oh dear.

The Lib Dems are on about 10% in the latest polls, and despite the fact that both the main parties are a complete shitshow, it's easy to see why - if you're going to become known as a single issue party, then you probably want that to be Brexit, not treating anyone who thinks women don't have penises as guilty of a thought crime.

JoanSummers · 22/10/2018 15:44

They're openly telling women not to vote for or join them if we don't agree that female or woman is an identity that men can choose to appropriate.

I mean, that's an insane perspective for a political party to take. Most people do not agree that a man can become a woman because he says so.

The Liberal Democrats are being made into a totally politically unviable laughing stock by the policies and actions of the LibDemLGBTs, who are only focussed on their own egos and demands.

R0wantrees · 22/10/2018 15:51

There are some influential TRAs within the Lib Dems.

Helen Belcher Trans Media Watch & Liberal Democrat was on Radio 4 this lunchtime following the very serious allegations Belcher made towards Janice Turner:

Betty,
That article says "by Sophie Tyrrell" so although it was republished on Belcher's blog, it doesn't appear to be by her, unless it's a pseudonym.

deepwatersolo · 23/10/2018 07:48

Is this Helen Belcher?

I just can't....
