Yes it is the last day of the consultation but that's not the be all and end all. When politicians are analysing the consultation responses and deciding what to do, they won't be in a vacuum.

The next few weeks are a great time to get all this discussed properly on the BBC, in the Guardian and other media frequented by civil servants and politicians.

Getting the general population seeing what's going on and getting them vocal in the media will be very powerful too.

What we heard today on Today is a good step in the direction of genuine discussion of the issues. I want to see and hear a lot more of it. It will influence the decisions being considered in back rooms in Whitehall.

momentomori · 19/10/2018 13:17

I think the sad thing is that women athletes are too scared to speak out because they may be labelled transphobic (and therefore lose their sponsorship) but if women's sports start to be dominated by trans athletes, women may end up losing their sponsorships anyway because they will no longer be winning races and the sponsorships will go elsewhere.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 19/10/2018 13:20

McKinnon is a cheat and a fraud.

Transwomen are not women.

Women do not have penises.

Women are adult human females.

Fuck off, McKinnon, and take your lies with you.

It is as illogical as separating racers based on phrenology.

The only logical solution is to divide by sex. A person may identify as any gender they desire, present themselves wearing whatever clothing they desire, so long as XY chromosome people compete against their own XY peers, and XX chromosome people compete fairly against other XX competitors.

nellodee · 19/10/2018 18:55

I thought transgendered cyclists were unfair, then I found out about trangendered boxers. I know this happened in 2014, but I'm a little late to this whole thing.

Fallon Fox, a 38-year-old ex-military man and father, caused what many are calling career-ending injuries to his female mixed martial arts opponent, Tamikka Brents. In less than three minutes, Fox inflicted an orbital bone fracture, a concussion, and soft tissue injuries to Brents’ head so extensive that they required 8 surgical staples to close.

Rebecca36 · 19/10/2018 19:28

What does transgender have to do with cycling? Lots of people I know, cycle. Their sex/gender doesn't enter into it.

CaveMum · 19/10/2018 19:36

@Rebecca36 it has everything to do it when a MAN is competing in and winning Women’s professional cycling events.

CaveMum · 19/10/2018 19:40

Here’s Rachael McKinnon on the podium after recently winning a Women’s event.

Definitely no problem here 🤔

Back to La McKinnon briefly. Its been bugging me who xhe reminded me of - then I remembered: Ja'mie from Summer Heights High.

Rebecca36 · 20/10/2018 16:33

I get that it is different when the cycling is competitive. A whole different ball game (no pun intended).

AspieAndProud · 20/10/2018 19:32

Fallon Fox’s opponent wasn’t even informed that her opponent had been born male:

AspieAndProud · 20/10/2018 19:35

The cycling story is a scandal but the Fox story takes it to a new level.

The audience was cheering a man beating a woman in public.

Gncq · 20/10/2018 19:49

Well of course non competitive sport can be and is mixed sex. Sports people practice all the time in mixed teams/pairs it doesn't matter it's just fun.
But competitive sport is sex segregated for a reason.

Badmoonsarising · 21/10/2018 12:16

Does anyone have links to the shows and interviews being discussed here?

Childrenofthestones · 21/10/2018 12:58

Men are difficult to beat, even for other men.
This shit carries on, in ten years time it will only be transwomen at the top of most women's sport.

CaveMum · 21/10/2018 20:41

And here we have Hannah Mouncey, who has been trying to play Aussie Rules Football in the WOMEN’S league.

“she” withdrew from the latest draft after an outcry.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 22/10/2018 11:58

The velonews article is interesting in that it quotes Vilain:

“It is not about making everybody biologically equal, and I think that is a common misconception when we start talking about transgender athletes,” he said. “People want transgender [females] to be physiologically identical to [born] females, and if they’re not, it’s unfair. That is not possible.”

All this bullshit that advocates come out with about there being no advantage are lies. This is the person who basically wrote the rules saying that it is about being 'inclusive' rather than fair. I can only surmise that they tried to set the requirements at a level they hoped would put off the non-genuine (ha!) people. The number of trans competitors is relatively small so it's simply a case of tough luck if you do happen to come up against one.

But already there are people complaining about it being too strict, or that transwomen need testosterone for medical reasons. What boundaries there are will be pushed against. And if that happens then it won't be relatively small numbers of people and we can basically say goodbye to women's sports.

AncientLights · 22/10/2018 12:22

Vilain's piece is interesting and attempts to be even-handed. But then they show their hand at the end by asking us to imagine a girl born into a boy's body - so we have to enter the land of fantasy in order to understand the issue. And I refuse to enter their land of fantasy. As ever, the conversation is around T levels, barely a mention of any other differences. The differences in the male & female pelves is drawn as being slight, yet they are so marked you can tell the sex of the skeleton by them. All these things make a big difference.

@QuestaVecchiaCasa - after a dinner party we had yesterday evening and some of the Hmmm observations made, it's really weird that you posted this today! And yes, that does indeed look just like a slightly younger McKinnon.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 22/10/2018 13:32

AncientLights, yes it's not even handed at all. Which is a good thing, as it is more useful for pointing out to trans activists that the criteria for inclusion have no basis in fairness.
