Please help me to compose a message or something.
I have a very woke Facebook acquaintance, who happens to be a gay man. He's inciting people to report fair play for women on Facebook for hate speech due to their "transphobic" post. Not sure which post exactly. A lot of people are following his lead it appears.
Anything I can go back to him with? I've never spoke up on my Facebook page about this issue as I'm too scared, but want to be brave!
I've been lurking on these pages, posting occasionally but learning so much from you eloquent ladies.

Maybe ask him to explain why it's transphobic? Are women's rights transphobic? Depending on what he says, the old "what is a woman?" usually opens the conversation up nicely

ToeToToe · 17/10/2018 18:26

Link him to Jonny Best's petition, and the Guardian article of academic's letter about being silenced by transactivists.

Can provide you links if you like.

MsBeaujangles · 17/10/2018 18:26

Perhaps you can say that you think they are supportive of trans rights and many trans people support the organisation and appreciate what they are doing.

wopbamboo · 17/10/2018 18:33

Just ask him 'how?' He will find it hard to explain.

KipperTheFrog · 17/10/2018 18:37

Ok, so I've just gone back asking which post he wants reported. Reply saying "whichever post you want, but any you think are inciting hatred. For me it's the one of photos of them handing out leaflets to "gangs of women wanting to protect their daughters" ".
I don't want to say anything without facts to back myself up. I'm not good at debating!

RedToothBrush · 17/10/2018 18:37

Some people find Stonewalls position on trans issues as fundamentally homophobic.

KipperTheFrog · 17/10/2018 18:43

I know, Red which is kinda why I find it odd he's so supportive of them.

wopbamboo · 17/10/2018 18:56

Again play dumb and ask what's in the leaflets that's so transphobic? (You have my sympathy- I have a one too who earnestly shares penisnews articles linking GRA to the rise in trans crime and im scared to debate him too)

HandlebarTash81 · 17/10/2018 18:58

I would politely ask him to elaborate with clear examples of transphobia. Use logic and it will take care of itself.

deepwatersolo · 17/10/2018 19:02

Just say: ,ok, then I can report none. For I have looked them through now, and none I have seen incites hatred. I am very surprised that anyone would report any of it.‘

FekkoTheLawyer · 17/10/2018 19:03

Maybe repost a shot of the leaflet and ask which bit to complain about? Then the others will have to read it (and find naff all to cry about).

boatyardblues · 17/10/2018 19:18

Naughty Fekko, but brilliant.

FekkoTheLawyer · 17/10/2018 19:30

And repeat the highlights with innocent comments 'is this the bit?'

KipperTheFrog · 17/10/2018 19:33

I like that idea fekko
Someone else has come along asking to define hate speech. I'll see how that plays out too.

FekkoTheLawyer · 17/10/2018 19:34

I'm a sneekit fucker. 😈

CaptSkippy · 17/10/2018 19:34

You could feign ignorance and ask him what makes it transphobic in his eyes. Some women might be persuaded by the weakness of the argument.

But if you don't know him in real life it might be worth just to unfriend this mysoginist fellow.

KipperTheFrog · 17/10/2018 19:36

capt I went to school with him so know him from a long time ago.

OP posts:
CaptSkippy · 17/10/2018 19:39

Do you still meet in person?

Velella · 17/10/2018 19:40

Yes. Good tactic to ask questions rather than state arguments. Then query their responses with examples and more questions.

On general points outside of the GRA/ FPFW leaflets:
There was also that article in a gay magazine that claimed that gay men were just failed transwomen. Wonder if your friend agrees.

The ultimate question is always to ask that if your friend believes TWAW then would he have sex with a pre-op trans man?

kesstrel · 17/10/2018 19:40

The Guardian has just come out (wonders will never cease!) with a GC-friendly "Guardian View" leader here - you could use that:

amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/oct/17/the-guardian-view-on-the-gender-recognition-act-where-rights-collide

RedToothBrush · 17/10/2018 19:47

All together now.

REVERSE FERRET

Sound the klaxon!!!!

The Guardian just ran a
REVERSE FERRET
REVERSE FERRET
REVERSE FERRET
REVERSE FERRET
REVERSE FERRET

In case you missed it when I said it the first time
REVERSE FERRET

ferret

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 17/10/2018 19:51

I'd go with the question asked of Owen Jones. Would your gay friend perform cunnilingus on a transman? Because if he wouldn't it's him that's transphobic.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 17/10/2018 19:58

Holy fuck! Up until now any comments that didn't entirely endorse trans ideology were deleted on The Guardian website. I gave up commenting years ago.

And now we have a REVERSE FERRET!

Wtf is going on?

RedToothBrush · 17/10/2018 20:03

Can't wait for Mr1984 to exclaim that the Guardian editorial is transphobic and on the wrong side of history.

ToeToToe · 17/10/2018 20:06

REVERSE FERRET Grin OMG - the Guardian has seen sense? Really?
Shock Wine

Is it the Hadley effect? She's fab. Or the Butterfly irresponsible broadcasting of child suicide effect?? Or is it just that everyone finds Owen Jones insufferable now, even his own party?
