Labour party promoting Stonewall

This tweet from the Labour Party is recommending people complete the GRA consultation following Stonewall's guidance. I'm astounded.

I can't bring myself to vote Tory and they are the ones who brought in this very flawed consultation in the first place but I can't vote Labour either.
I've always voted for leftish parties but I can't vote for Labour who intend to set women's rights back decades (and are expelling and demonising women who complain), or the Greens (non-men) or the Libdems who think it would be an improvement to have 100% people born with penises in parliament over the underrepresentation of women we currently. The WEP has completely sold women down the river.
I have voted in every single election, big and small, since I was 18 and this is the very first time I don't see any option other than spoiling my vote. And that horrifies me.
It's not even a case of voting for the best of a bad bunch. I cannot, in good conscience, actively vote for any of them.
At a time when we need good leadership and government more than ever, every single political party is letting us down massively.

I'm also now politically homeless. I've voted every time I've been eligible to - always for Labour (other than the local election where I voted for our really good SNP councillor alongside the Labour candidate). I've been a party member since I was 16.

Like you say StarsAndWater, if there was an election tomorrow, I couldn't even choose "the best of a bad bunch". My only hope would be an independent, if there was one.

AugustL · 19/10/2018 16:11

That pushed me over the edge and gave me more drive to finish off my response to the consultation. I'm still a Labour member, joined under Corbyn during last election, but hanging on by a string. Over time I've contacted Jess Phillips, Stella Creasy, Angela Rayner, Dawn Butler. Given up on the last two. I don't even know if Corbyn knows what's going on or thinks about what he says, he probably just wants to be nice to and help and give support to any perceived oppressed group, and Stonewall etc. get in everyone's ear, and lie and play on emotions. He probably thinks this will win the youth vote too. Well I'm in my 20s, don't know if I'm youth anymore but this is making me want to leave Labour, along with other issues. I don't want my money going to a party intent on supporting a policy that is detrimental to me, and society. So yeah I'll probably leave if I find out how. Ugh do I really have to make a trip to the bank to cancel the direct debit. Wish I could just resign online. I hold more hope for John McDonnell, he said after mumsnet chat that Labour must listen to women's concerns. Someone posted on Twitter the other day they emailed John to say they were leaving Labour, anyone see that? He pleaded with her to think again about leaving and said he'd met with Women associated with Womans Place about the issue last week and said 'we' (he and who?) are encouraging wider discussion and consultation

But then Labour Twitter posts that and jeremy said whatever he said. I haven't listened to/read what he said exactly tbh. Can't bare it. I don't know who runs Woman's Place or whoever is associated to them that John met with. I think I read somewhere it was a woman to do with trade unions or the wife of someone high up in trade unions. John may know them personally?

If Labour are set on this and Tories change their mind on self ID, I'd rather Tories stay in government tbh. Yikes.

StarsAndWater · 19/10/2018 16:17

It makes me want to set up a new political party. Not sure what we'd call it. Possibly just the 'Not A Bunch Of Wankers Party' to differentiate it from the rest.
I know a couple of people have semi-seriously suggested a Mumsnet party. I'd be first to vote for that. And be out leafleting and doorstepping too.

PersonWithAVulva · 19/10/2018 16:49

Not A Bunch Of Wankers Party

Ha. I think you could pick up a few thousand voters for the name alone Grin

AugustL · 19/10/2018 17:00

"Not a bunch of wankers party" hahaha

Sorry duno if that link I posted is right it seems to have an extra character on the end

I’ve cancelled my Direct debit and emailed my local secretary to say that as a woman, adult human female, I sadly no longer have a place in the Labour Party. I look forward to being able to join again in the future.

I’ve never seen a trnswoman lugging around leaflets in the rain. Maybe I will now. Now this woman is no longer doing it.

GladAllOver · 20/10/2018 10:51

How sad to hear that. But inevitable.
And probably futile since you will be written off as transphobic as others have been.
"Better off without them."

Beamur · 20/10/2018 11:35

I'm not a member but have always voted Labour.
They've lost my vote over their shabby treatment of women.

placemats · 20/10/2018 12:06

I would never vote in a general election on a single issue. Obviously referendums are different.

I will never vote for my Tory MP. However, I'm now without a vote. My only way is to spoil my vote in the next general election, unless there is a sea change and a new Party comes to the fore.

BettyDuMonde · 20/10/2018 13:13

At this rate we’ll all have to spoil our ballot papers.

Maybe we should agree on a single phrase?

I’m nominating two options

  1. Woman = adult human female
Or
  1. Women don’t have penises

Any more suggestions?

Beamur · 20/10/2018 14:44

I feel the same placemats
It doesn't feel as if there is a party I could vote for at the moment. Not even the Greens as a token environmental nod.
