Olympics?

So... will the olympics of the future just be transwomen competing against each other? The Rachael McKinnon win seems to open the gates for it. It seems so counter intuitive that women's sport would just be allowed to be taken over, but, the way things are going I can actually imagine it happening

I had a little vision in my head of all the women lining up at the starting blocks for a race. There is also one trans woman who will be racing against them. As the whistle goes for the women to start the race they all band together in solidarity whip off their t-shirts to reveal adult human female t-shirts underneath. And refuse to race against a male competitor. This is the only way I can see we are going to get any progress is by women athletes standing up and refusing to race.

Trinity1976 · 15/10/2018 15:54

I think if it comes down to transwomen being able to compete in the female category in many Olympic sports and/or in world championships, the general public will not be having any of it. There will be the initial morbid curiosity to watch transfolk compete, but that will soon pass and everyone will soon get bored watching men beat women in women's sports. And if the viewers are turning off then the sporting bodies will hopefully quickly see sense.

scepticalwoman · 15/10/2018 15:55

Like everything with this whole shitstorm, it will be up to individual women to put their sporting careers and reputations on the line in order to stand up to legalised cheating. And as we have seen, the trans mafia will happily trash any woman who dares to do that. It is so unfair.

BiologyIsReal · 15/10/2018 15:56

Also spectators could help by booing trans winners, unfurling banners, chanting etc. Shame the cheating bastards - although I suppose if you are stunning and brave enough to enter a women's event there is nothing that can shame you.....

GrimDamnFanjo · 15/10/2018 16:57

I think from memory trans women can already compete in the olympics as the ruling which only requires a lower testosterone level was introduced for 2016.

GrimDamnFanjo · 15/10/2018 16:58

Oh and any guesses for who holds the women's decathlon Olympic record?

howlsmovingcastle84 · 15/10/2018 18:30

At least we will have the 'ducking under the bar' event all to ourselves. Until that is deemed transphobic of course.

Ereshkigal · 15/10/2018 19:09

The ducking under a bar event is exclusionary and indirectly discriminatory on the grounds of gender reassignment as biological females are more likely to be small enough to duck under the bar. So although that would be our one event, they would take that too, obviously.

BettyDuMonde · 16/10/2018 06:14

I’m looking forward to the first all-male-bodied ‘Ladies’ Wimbledon Final.

homoseXXualmum · 16/10/2018 11:13

Well maybe when all 3 winner's of women's sports are Rachels, people will see it for what it is...

arranfan · 16/10/2018 11:21

any guesses for who holds the women's decathlon Olympic record?

My Google-Fu let me down and I don't know the answer to this.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 16/10/2018 11:28

Women don't do the decathalon?

Do you mean heptathalon?

Onthebrink87 · 16/10/2018 11:29

Are they just hoping that every other country that competes will just accept that their female atheists will be up against born males?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 16/10/2018 11:30

unless it's changed?

I don't think they used to.

(Not sure why - ladybrain? ovaries will fall out?)

StylishDuck · 16/10/2018 11:36

@GrimDamnFanjo is it Caitlyn Jenner? Even though she was Bruce when she competed? Women don't compete in decathlon so there's not really anyone to compare her with!

arranfan · 16/10/2018 11:40

afaict, Women's Decathlon is very limited at present. There's some discussion of putting it into the Olympics but it looks like it would be 2028 according to this:

www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/jun/25/olympic-games-women-decathlon-heptathlon-ennis-hill-sean-ingle

And, I can't see that the current women’s decathlon world record holder, the Lithuanian Austra Skuiyte, is transwoman? (But, I may be wrong.)

However, yes - I do think that women's events would be rendered mostly a contest of non-natal female competitors from very competitive countries. Didn't the UK send 2 transwomen athletes to Rio in 2016?

StylishDuck · 16/10/2018 11:41

The women's decathlon record has been held by Austra Skujyte since 2005 according to Wikipedia.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/10/2018 11:46

FUCK OFF!!!!

Women only officially got what they called parity in athletics in 2016... that is all the events were open to women, steeplechase being the last event, for some obscure reason. Not as obscure as replacing the decathlon with the heptathlon though!

None of the students I taught ever Sport History to believed that women couldn't participate, just thought that they didn't want to!!

So now, 2 whole years later and look where we are!

I'd love that type of protest, TerfedOff I may look in my little black book and see if any of the coaches I used to work with are still active!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/10/2018 11:52

That decathlon was not an open event though, they were limited events hosted by single universities, mainly North American. Not quite by invitation, but attendance was limited and no female athlete got funding for the training, or indeed had access to the coaching or facilities to train - many were turned away as they would not be insured!

It won't be much longer before the senior and meaningful meets will have 2 or more transwomen competitors in that line-up. Finals? The more popular it gets, half or more of the qualifiers will be transwomen.

As for swimming, snowsports, rowing, kayaking, hammer, high jump, pole vault...the list is endless.

As Dr Fond of Beetles says,
The performance gap between male and female athletes is utterly astounding; it’s not a “gap”, it’s the Grand Canyon.

When trans women compete in women's Wimbledon, I'll truly be lost Sad

Tediousnamechange · 16/10/2018 12:02

The thing is, where are the trans men competing in and smashing the men's records? Hmmm funny that...

arranfan · 16/10/2018 12:06

When trans women compete in women's Wimbledon

If you're a reasonably good male player who stands little chance of ever making it far up enough in the rankings to earn decent money - and you knew that you could dominate the women's circuit...

To be fair, there's no money in being a champion kayaker so unless you were fanatical enough to just want to be an Olympian, it wouldn't be an immediate target. :) But athletics, any of the big money sports like tennis or golf...

NotBadConsidering · 16/10/2018 12:13

It’s not the Olympics I worry about. The more big name men invade the very highest elite of women’s sport the more people will see it for what it really is. I worry more about the amateur and age-group level, the level just below elite, the college level or high school level. At this level of sport women won’t have the level of support, won’t be at a level where they can safely and confidently stand up for themselves without risking a great deal, but will lose more - motivation, sponsorship, enjoyment, the chance at a shot at the elite level, college scholarships and general faith in humanity, particularly in a sporting sense - and will be sold out by cowardly sporting organisations terrified of woke bros/AWAs suing them and ruining their delicately funded organisations.

The organising bodies of all sports need to take stand to put boundaries in place from the elite level down to school and not be cowed into a debate about distracting bullshit about testosterone levels. Protect ALL women and girls’ sport, not just the Olympic level.

Needmoresleep · 16/10/2018 12:15

Its more than the money. In individual sports talent pathways could quickly get clogged up with only one or two M to F youth. There are only so many good coaches or facilities. In swimming boys times are an awful lot faster than girls, and the US approach is (rightly) not to require under 16s to take hormones. So if you swim, say 200fly, you will first have to hope that the slot on your regional team is not taken up by a transgirl, and that that the regional talent programme has enough space for two in the same discipline. Plus qualifying times may go up as they are based on international times and heavily influenced by US performances.

No good competition, and no access to talent programmes and you don't have a chance.

Girls competitive sport becomes pointless. Another erasure.
