The consultation is going to be discussed tomorrow on Women's Hour. They are asking for our views!

That lawyer was ridiculous.

On balance, though, I think that was a good half hour.

Stonewall only spoke pre-recorded right at the top. Then Debbie Hayton contradicted that line anyway, the Irish Oona didn’t seem to know what she was saying, the digital native didn’t seem biased particularly and the Rabbi was irrelevant. Nic Williams was very clear, and Jane Garvey did a great job of hitting a lot of key issues in questions.

The main pro-trans voices basically said “personal identity rulez” and “you’re all afraid of us” which is not much of an argument against Male violence and women’s rights.

HandsOffMyRights · 16/10/2018 10:49

I'm really pissed off by that shitshow.

Dr Nic was not given equal air time, but because she's a strong woman she had to push to get her voice heard. And did so admirably.

The show started with two non GC voices - 18 mins. Twice, Jane referred to a "quick word" with Dr Nic. Insulting.

Thank you Debbie for bringing up safeguarding.

So many core issues remain buried because the BBC bod, with a title that even Garvey doesn't get, wittered on.

Once again, we were silenced. By Woman's Hour!

Tediousnamechange · 16/10/2018 10:49

JG did do an excellent job of picking up on key GC concerns where she could. Eg don't seek surgery. Well done.

And more thanks and applause for Nic, and thanks to Debbie for highlighting the safeguarding concerns.

PerverseConverse · 16/10/2018 10:49

The pro GRA speakers made no sense and didn't answer questions.
Only Nic and Debbie spoke any sense and used facts not feelings.
The presenter obviously doesn't believe in all the bollocks going on at the moment.
Think Nic cut off due to time or pressure as think presenter on our side.
Will look forward to the podcast.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 16/10/2018 10:49

Biased - but well done to Nic and Debbie for remaining so (outwardly) calm and presenting the facts.

I think JG did well to challenge the others given the usual BBC line.

AbsintheFriends · 16/10/2018 10:50

It wasn't good, but it was brilliant by BBC standards. And given that I strongly suspect they had intended to avoid this issue entirely until after the consultation closed, it was a definite victory for women pushing forward and exerting pressure. We need to keep it up.

Budgieinaberet · 16/10/2018 10:50

Yes Spartacus

Procrastinator1 · 16/10/2018 10:50

This Madness, I hope your husband will write in pointing out the flaws in that barrister's representation of the law.

AnchorMum · 16/10/2018 10:50

That was a right dog's dinner.

But thank goodness for Nic speaking so eloquently and doing such a brilliant job.

Debbie said some excellent things too.

Jane Garvey probably gets it but was obviously having to keep within very defined guidelines - though this didn't extend to calling out some of the blatant factual errors.

tothefareast80 · 16/10/2018 10:50

One of the most important points in this whole debate is around children and the risk to them going down the pathway of irreversible changes to their bodies. And Dr Nic was just shut down - glad she raised it but cross to see the lack of debate on any of the real issues.

getitnow · 16/10/2018 10:51

I agree that it was disgraceful...

Women and girls and safeguarding and single sex spaces needed to be discussed.

They never really discussed the real impact of a girl having to see a penis that she would not consent to.

Nicola tried to bring up which we need to understand the massive increase of girls wanting to be trans but was cut off.

I don't think anyone who was new to this issue would have been able to make head or tail of it.

The whole thing has actually made me feel quite down... so sick of the misogynistic trans agenda that is so widely peddled.

hackmum · 16/10/2018 10:51

if only that hour could have been about WOMEN & how this affects hospitals, rape refuges, sports FFS

Quite. It is supposed to be Woman's Hour, after all. Nic managed to pack such a lot in, given she had so little time but it was so frustrating to hear other people either just lying that it wouldn't make a difference or being incredibly dismissive of her concerns. Nic made it really clear that once a man has a birth certificate saying he's female then legally he becomes a woman - and so the sex-based exemptions of the Equalities Act become meaningless.

Also I get so fed up of idiots like the person who wrote in saying that giving rights to one group never takes rights away from another. How fucking thick do you have to be to believe that? A couple of minutes' thought will show that that isn't true.

OunceOfFlounce · 16/10/2018 10:51

Yes, Spartacus, I'd have loved to hear Jenni Murray host that debate!

LucretiaBourgeois · 16/10/2018 10:51

Jesus that was a complete waste of time. Women's Hour leave it till the last possible minute to cover this issue at all and then load the programme with trans advocates. Who coming new to this will have understood that the trans umbrella includes people who are not dysphoric at all, and that a key issue is about predatory men claiming to be women in order to access our spaces? it's not about whether mothers love their non-binary children FFS Angry

scepticalwoman · 16/10/2018 10:52

Really interesting.
Well done Nic Williams for being so clear and articulate. Well done Debbie Hayton for speaking personally but dispassionately and centring safeguarding so well.
Jane Garvey was excellent and everyone was given time to speak.
Re the trans advocates - it was a shame that so often their answers slid around the question and failed to answer. Was the lawyer accurate? The mother of the non binary child was just a word salad of meaningless comment - but great to hear that they'll be covering what's happening to children soon.

Such a shame that WH and the BBC have left it so late to cover this but I thought it was a good programme.

SorryAuntLydia · 16/10/2018 10:52

Bp through the roof.
Natalie was so disingenuous saying that women only spaces will be preserved meaning only if you believe that trans women are women. Really needed clarifying for the casual listener.

And wtf non-binary child what was the point of the Rabbi’s contribution - ‘my child is different and I still love them’ - yeh, love, bully for you but how does that add to the debate?

And just so much bollocks about what the law actually is right now.

Loved Debbie saying no need for GRC at all now, totally agree.

Tediousnamechange · 16/10/2018 10:52

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Jenni's house right now...

Think Jane needs

Budgieinaberet · 16/10/2018 10:53

Well we all need to email again.

Threewheeler1 · 16/10/2018 10:53

That was a quick shutdown.
Nic did well there.
Am I to interpret, from all that, that our fears are baseless?
And why the Rabbi again? I suppose it's easier to switch on to the trans and gender unicorn dogma if you've trained in religious dogma.
Surely the child safeguarding issue should be discussed before the close of consultation? I reckon it's the one area that your average non-GC person could get their heads around!

Tediousnamechange · 16/10/2018 10:53

Jane needs

Tediousnamechange · 16/10/2018 10:53

Gin

Pic isn't working?

ILuvBirdsEye · 16/10/2018 10:53

Someone asked for the Fairplay for women link for the one-click consultation up thread.

Not sure if it was answered... the thread has moved quickly. But just in case you need it... here it is

whifflesqueak · 16/10/2018 10:54

That wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, but only because everyone apart from the GC contributors seemed confused.

Can you imagine relying on that lawyer in court? She really muddled and badly prepared.

AnchorMum · 16/10/2018 10:54

And considering how many of us took considerable time and effort to email in with our comments. Was that just a total waste of our time?
