Intersex people

I'm curious to know what people here think about how we should manage the law, toilets, sports etc for intersex people. What are your thoughts?

OP posts:

Quite so, Materialist. I have friends with a son with Kleinfelters - they worry about whether he'll ever talk, who will look after him when they die, because his global developmental delay means he will never live independently. It's bloody disgraceful to co-opt this for political reasons.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 14/10/2018 20:20

I also have a friend whose son has Kleinfelters. He went to college but is struggling. Oh - and there's no doubt that he's male, despite his condition.

Spanna, like so many other genderist proponents who visit these boards, has gravely underestimated the regular posters here.

You can almost hear them thinking "Mumsnet? Bunch of silly women. I'll soon sort them out."

yes, it's so incredibly disrespectful

come here, join in, be prepared to say what you think and why you think it

it's not hard, but it seems to be completely beyond our 'visitors'

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 14/10/2018 22:54

Intersex people are probably tired of being used in this debate.

Indeed prawn. It still never ceases to amaze me how just letting them talk does the trick.

spanna There is an open letter on the Internet where the Intersex Soc detail their doings with, I believe, GIRES, who hounded them relentlessly to get them to do a collaboration on a Panorama programme.

They didn't want to, and said so repeatedly. In the end they had to post an open letter.

One of the things they thought was wrong was that their stance on surgery was completely opposite to that of GIRES. Something that GIRES didn't want to be the case, apparently.

Still, it doesn't stop transactivists thinking they can leverage them for their own political point scoring. An assumption that it's startling in its shortsightedness, as it backfires relentlessly. Because all it does is expose their determination to ignore other people's boundaries at all costs.

FermatsTheorem · 14/10/2018 23:23

The other thing I hate is the way they've co-opted a very rare medical condition, and in order to "ramp up the drama" (bit like the fake suicide stats) lumped in a whole load of other stuff to try to make it look as though intersex is more common that it in fact is, in order to push the whole "human sex is not binary" nonsense.

So, for instance, they try to co-opt hypospadias as an example of intersex. It isn't. It's a minor cosmetic defect of the penis, where the urethra comes out somewhere on the underside rather than at the end. It is no more akin to being intersex than my having a tongue tie (which leaves me with a mild speech impediment and unable to roll my Rs) is akin to a child with a chromosomal trisomy which leaves them with language delay.

Hell, I've even seen the fuckers try to pretend that PCOS is a form of intersex. It's polycystic ovary syndrome you fuckers. You can't have it unless you have ovaries - y'know, a female reproductive organ.

Datun · 14/10/2018 23:37

I know. It's pathetic really. The same ludicrous arguments because the actual goal is so transparent.

In 2018 dominating women is now explained, variously, with clownfish, strawberries, intersex people, hormones in the water, apartheid, gay rights, and what's wrong with you women, why can't I make you submit be kind.

Bowlofbabelfish · 15/10/2018 10:23

Intersex people aren’t some kind of halfway house in between the sexes, OP. All are male, or female, with various disorders which affect normal sex related developmental pathways.

As such, they are not relevant to the transgender issue. The trans cooption of the intersex community is not benign.

Humans cannot change sex. Sex is not a spectrum. Intersex conditions have nothing to do with being trans.

Bowlofbabelfish · 15/10/2018 10:25

If you have points you’d like to make about the genetics, then go ahead. Wink

Datun · 15/10/2018 10:26

Yes, go on. I want to hear those points debated with bowl.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 15/10/2018 12:16

I want to see Bowl in action!

AnyFucker · 15/10/2018 12:26

Op has a pressing engagement trolling some other board elsewhere

RiverTam · 15/10/2018 12:33

MIL (retired pediatric nurse) was telling me about some of the children with intersex conditions she dealt with in the '60s, it was incredibly distressing. It is utterly revolting the way these conditions are brought in as a validation to a hideous ideology.

SweetheartNeckline · 15/10/2018 12:54

The intersex child I knew (Turner's) was clearly and unambiguously a girl; most intersex conditions are not distinguishable by sight.

Intersex conditions are very rare, visible (without studying carefully) ones even less so. Most intersex people are socialised as either male or female.

Intersex conditions do not prove that humans are not a sexually dimorphic species; people born without legs do not prove humans are not a bipedal species.

Please leave intersex people out of the transgender debate.

Bowlofbabelfish · 15/10/2018 14:12

They never want to play with me anyfucker

... Wink

AnyFucker · 15/10/2018 17:47

Funny, that

AncientLights · 15/10/2018 17:59

One of the highlights of my months on here is the time when that numpty asked Bowl if she had any GCSEs and implied that science had moved on somewhat since Bowl had left school. Bowl beautifully handed their arse to them on a plate. PhD supervised by a Nobel prize winner, if memory serves. Wonderful.

Bowlofbabelfish · 15/10/2018 19:16

i did chortle at that one. :)

That’s the highlight of my years on here! 🤣

Bowlofbabelfish · 16/10/2018 18:49

Thank you all 😊 he’s a little darling and he’s letting me have at least an hours sleep most nights, the little bugger. My brain is like mush.

PositivelyPERF · 16/10/2018 18:55

My brain is like mush. yet you can still run rings around our visitors. 🤣

pennydrew · 16/10/2018 20:28

What you’re doing here is called co-opting the struggles of others for your own gain. It’s blatant, and it’s disgusting
