My MP thinks self ID is ridiculous

So I finally got a reply from my MP - I'd actually given up hope. He's Conservative, very right wing, and I disagree with a lot of his voting record. However, I wrote in the vain hope that he would actually get it. He's not on twitter and replies with actual letters so takes a while to get hold of.

I never expected him to quote the Pope in his reply (he's C of E). I haven't been able to post that part as he uses my name close by, but it made me smile.

This all makes for strange bedfellows.

My Tory male MP said he couldn’t comment as he is also a junior minister in an unrelated dept. Fine, I said but Penny Mordaunt won’t speak to us and you can’t speak to us so what do we do?

Answer came there none.

Turf
Exactly the same phrasing in response from my MP. Love the line ' Everyone should feel safe and happy to be who they are without judgement or fear.' How can anyone bear to repeat such platitudes?

YeTalkShiteHen · 11/10/2018 19:09

I’m stunned, for the first time in my life I’ve actually agreed with something a Tory said.

Ooft. Never thought that would happen.

Redkeyboard · 11/10/2018 19:10

That’s so frustrating turph as the issues on the ground regarding the exemptions are exactly the kind of information that meeting would properly inform your MP about.

Worth sending them the FPFW refuges report which summarises why they aren’t working and why GRA reform would make this worse. You can ask him to forward it to Penny Mordaunt for her response as to how the issues will be addressed.

Yes I'm thinking about how to reply...

AdaColeman · 11/10/2018 19:13

I'm drafting a letter to my MP just now, and want to ask them if they are going to the meeting on 16th. But I can't find any more details about where it is etc. Could some one kindly point me in the right direction for more information please?

(Hope I've not derailed your thread OP)

Room S 10.30-12.30.

I rang the constituency office for a more direct approach Grin. Ensured that message about the WPUK meeting was relayed and also booked an appointment for another discussion about the GRA and self-identification, as I last met MP much earlier in the year.

Bloody hell saratustra, it's going to take you ages to go around commenting on all the threads on MN that you're not interested in 😂. You'd better get on then.
