I prefer the twitter commebts baying for a boycott. Theres one response - I suspect the poster may be Glaswegian - which says 'oh you are a silly chap, don't you realise that boycotting a free newspaper is an exercise in futility' (in not so many words).

WokerThanWoke · 11/10/2018 17:35

Boycotting a free newspaper has really tickled me.

Someone said on Twitter said that the woke had shit for brains and it's proving to be true.

ChoccyJules · 11/10/2018 17:41

Have shared on Twitter and FB. That’s me well and truly speaking out. I know one friend at least who will be angry with me.

Turph · 11/10/2018 17:51

The notion that the advert cost £45k and Yank fundies were involved seems to have come from one Twitter poster.
I'd quite like to be paid for by Yank fundies. They're very rich. I doubt they'd pay for a carefully worded advert in a regional UK freesheet on a government consultation, though. Maybe I could refuse to bake some cakes or something? How much would that be worth?

captain yes I know and I’ve asked Dr.Haddock so many times even many of his minions it all fair enough going down the trans route but where is the support during and after. Where just bloody where is it other than few wanky leaflets

I’ve either been blocked or ignored. That’s why I believe Haddock intent is purely to line own pocket.

I keep flouncing of social media because it is upsetting that kids will be first casualty of this. I actually don’t think they give a fuck because they know no matter what we will pick up the pieces regardless because that’s what we do.

I’m getting upset, I must focus on metro and the outrage of them being pissed at money spent.

I’ve also asked them that? What have they done to support any of this charities that are much needed support that the destroying for own selfish needs. Again I get blocked or ignored.

Turph · 11/10/2018 17:52

If they just get angry and don't ask why you think differently to them, they're not much of a friend anyway. #justmy2p

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 11/10/2018 17:54

It'll really rub salt into the wounds if they found out the ad had a discount....

silentcrow · 11/10/2018 17:56

I doubt they'd pay for a carefully worded advert in a regional UK freesheet on a government consultation, though.

I can't find the link right now but Hands Across The Aisle released a statement recently explaining their funding (ie, a shoestring of people's donations) and saying they were in no way donating to the UK because we don't need it.

breastfeedingclownfish · 11/10/2018 17:59

Hetty is full metal jacket TRA turph. Spends all day tweeting. All fucking day. So perhaps doesn't have much 'hard earned money' of her own to contribute to a Metro ad.

breastfeedingclownfish · 11/10/2018 18:02

And you have to question the motives of a self declared 'cis lesbian' who spends all day telling women that men with penises are women and that they can be lesbians.

It's almost like she doesn't know what lesbian means.

Turph · 11/10/2018 18:03

silentcrow I think they can't believe there's that much support for this, basically.
breastfeedingclownfish
You might be right

GladAllOver · 11/10/2018 18:06

So happy to hear how my donation has been used. Looking forward to seeing how my next one is used.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 11/10/2018 18:08

^ This they thought it would go under the radar and anyone who was against it would be quickly shot down becuase they were a small minority.

what they have found out is that 80% of the population are against self ID and it can't be explained away as a "small radfem group".

I mean look at that petition it's almost 6 thousand people:

QuietContraryMary · 11/10/2018 18:08

"I'd quite like to be paid for by Yank fundies. They're very rich. "

They really aren't. This is a myth.

Have you checked the pro-TRA and anti-TRA spending on the Massachusetts ballot question?

www.ocpf.us/Reports/BallotQuestionReports

The pro-TRA side has received $3.3 million, much of it from big business, pharma, and so on. They have a $1.3 million warchest heading into November.

The anti-TRA side received just $367,000 and has only $35,000 on-hand.

If there is some sort of international Christian fundamentalist funding machine acting against transpeople, you'd expect them to have spent some cash there, would you not?

Turph · 11/10/2018 18:15

Fair point, I'm thinking televangelists not grassroots political movements.

QuietContraryMary · 11/10/2018 18:25

Well I think the televangelists mostly spend it on themselves lol

Turph · 11/10/2018 18:27

CaptainKirkssparetupee
Hunt isn't even remotely embarrassed by the petition, I'm sure. Every gay person in the UK could sign it, along with all their friends and families, and she still wouldn't give a shit.
Big charities are like that, and Hunt just wants power now. She'll be an MP before she's 50, I'd put money on it.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/10/2018 18:29

Yy Captain.
It is an absolute article of faith among the woke that 'terfs' are a tiny, organised hate group pretending to be feminists for their own nefarious reasons.
I had a woke ex friend refuse point blank to believe me when I told him I was pretty much as terfy as it gets. It just couldn't compute with him that we are just ordinary feminists and their view is the extreme one in most people's views.

Turph · 11/10/2018 18:42

TheCountessofFitzdotterel
You missed the memo. All GC women are TERFs, all leave voters are racists, all old people are rich and hate young people, all religious people are idiots, all young men are alt-right incels, all young women are vacuous and "basic", there's a stereotype for everyone now and the sneery of Twitter have a pigeonhole for everyone they don't like. Nobody is safe, I think half the shock at having all that vitriol spewed at TERFs is because the group that make up TERFism are mostly female, many middle aged, mostly feminist, quite a few lesbians, lots in caring/teaching/charity jobs and make up a demographic that isn't often demonised like this.
Which in turn makes the demonisation even more ludicrous. They're painting the terminally reasonable as Nazis. The louder TRAs shout, the more people get peaked.

PersonWithAVulva · 11/10/2018 19:02

It'll really rub salt into the wounds if they found out the ad had a discount....

Heh. I was dying just before to ask one of them how thick you have to be to think that the ad cost 45k. But then I figured, its funnier seeing them spout it all over when it makes them look ridiculous Grin (them being transactivists, for any happy screenshotters)

I think they can't believe there's that much support for this, basically.

Thats because they have deluded themselves that 'terfs' are rare rare people...rather than the huge majority of the public. They seem to think that theres like 100 terfs in the UK or something..also as someone else pointed out, their crowdfunders fail miserably. So they are not amused at all that women come together to fundraise well.

PersonWithAVulva · 11/10/2018 19:03

Like, even if the ad had cost 45k, why is it so unbelievable that women could raise this?! Its just insulting.

PersonWithAVulva · 11/10/2018 19:07

The person I wanted to reply to is handwringing over the 'fact' that the advert cost one and a half times the median disposable income of UK households. So, the average disposable income is like...2k? (mind tbf, that genuinely sounds like my households disposable income)

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 11/10/2018 19:09

The fact they can't control it is probably worse, they weren't able to stop it and they weren't able to get an apology.

FekkoTheLawyer · 11/10/2018 19:11

It's like me when I was little and I realised I couldn't marry the blond one from starsky and hutch. Devastated I was. For about 2 minutes - well I was about 4.

Ereshkigal · 11/10/2018 19:13

Like, even if the ad had cost 45k, why is it so unbelievable that women could raise this?! Its just insulting.

It's not surprising that they think this when they can't believe that a feminist group could do what they do without a conspiracy theory. Because obvs women can't do anything.
