Oh my GOD!!! I wonder whether they will have a gender critical theologian on tomorrow?

OP posts:
terryleather · 09/10/2018 08:27

No amount of education will change my mind on non binary being a steaming pile of nonsense, thanks anyway.

kesstrel · 09/10/2018 08:28

I wonder if there has ever been another occasion during Thought For The Day, where listeners were encouraged to fill out a govt consultation?

Good point, Lizzie.

QuaterMiss · 09/10/2018 08:28

Today is having a larf this morning!

Gwyneth Paltrow on crystals now. Hmm

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 09/10/2018 08:33

PartridgeInAFairTree
It’s understandable for those that are ignorant to want to ask questions.

That was what I got too. So it’s OK to debate it as long as you arrive at the correct answer Hmm

AnchorMum · 09/10/2018 08:33

How odd that they allow this particular Thought for the Day but no discussion at all about this subject on Woman's Hour.

boatyardblues · 09/10/2018 08:33

I think I've seen somewhere that female non-binary people often have their breasts removed and take testosterone.

The BRCA breast cancer genes are more prevalent in the Ashkenazi Jewish population and some young women withe the BRCA gene opt to have prophylactic mastectomy to reduce their cancer risk (as Angelina Jolie did), so its possible mastectomy for FtM transition would be less of stark choice in the circles the rabbi moves in.

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/10/2018 08:36

I have The Rage after listening to this.

She's @LauraJanklaus on twitter, which is full of praise for her piece this morning. Stonewall among the first.

I have to work so can't do it myself right now but can someone please tweet her a pic of Jacinta?

VickyEadie · 09/10/2018 08:37

So, to summarise: parent of woman who identifies as non-binary - about whom GC women have no issue, because she's no threat to us - is given national radio slot to argue that people just need to be better educated about all trans people. Totally ignores wider issue of 'open door' caused by self-id.

borntobequiet · 09/10/2018 08:37

Just phoned BBC complaints to lodge a complaint
03700 100 222
Unfortunately didn't catch the whole 2/3 min but enough to make me very cross. The service is automated but if you choose "make a complaint" you get put through to a person.

heresyandwitchcraft · 09/10/2018 08:39

Most of the people asking questions now, actually HAVE done much research, and properly listened to what the trans activists themselves are saying. The problem is that "trans theories" to me still seem like a bunch of nonsense. While I can respect someone else's beliefs, I cannot in good conscience pretend that I share them. And we certainly shouldn't be writing them into law in such a way that ignores the physical reality of sex.

OldCrone · 09/10/2018 08:42

There seems to be a particular blind spot amongst female-born non-binaries and their supporters. They see the feminist objection to transwomen in female spaces, and project that to be about them. They think we would reject them, so they side with the transwomen with whom they have nothing in common.

These young people, with their rejection of gender stereotypes, would have turned to feminism in the past. Now they're fighting us instead.

speakingwoman · 09/10/2018 08:51

That complaints number again: 03700 100 222

I just pressed 3: "All of our agents are still busy" .....

speakingwoman · 09/10/2018 08:56

done. nice friendly chap.

I didn't even say that the particular law change was until he asked. I just said it was political and partisan, directly testifying as to how moving it is to change this law. ....

I used this:

"I wonder if there has ever been another occasion during Thought For The Day, where listeners were encouraged to fill out a govt consultation?"

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 09/10/2018 09:08

I used the online complaints form and complained about bias and partiality.

I also suggested a right of reply from a GC feminist such as Posie.

ssl.bbc.co.uk/complaints/forms/?lang=en&reset=&uid=690641911#anchor

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/10/2018 09:15

Just rang the number. Spoke to a lovely young man. Think I've peak-transed him!

AnchorMum · 09/10/2018 09:17

Just complained.

I mentioned the confusion in language over non binary and trans people; I said this was an inappropriate choice of speaker at such a sensitive time prior to a public consultation; I said that as the mother of a trans child I had no voice representing my own different views within the public debate and on the BBC; I said that there had been no debate about this on Woman's Hour and that it made this morning's choice very odd and possibly partisan; I said that the views of this morning's speaker did not accurately reflect the debate and any of the bigger issues.

Redkeyboard · 09/10/2018 09:22

I also suggested a right of reply from a GC feminist such as Posie.

Someone like Nic Williams would be better for a response to the tone of that message.

borntobequiet · 09/10/2018 09:25

It would need to be a "religious" person on TFTD.
The Pope is GC.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 09/10/2018 09:29

I wonder if his holiness is available...

AbsintheFriends · 09/10/2018 09:31

If the Pope isn't up for the gig, would there be someone from the RC church who would give an alternative perspective?

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 09/10/2018 09:32

I don’t necessarily think that the right of reply necessarily needs to be a TFTD, but it does need to allow the GC point across so not a “debate” with a TRA.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 09/10/2018 09:33

Sorry. Too many necessarilys Grin

OldCrone · 09/10/2018 09:34

I think they have had humanists on before. Angelos Sofocleous might be a good choice.

Redkeyboard · 09/10/2018 09:36

Rosa Freedman would be a good choice for a balanced come back, see this thread:

OldCrone · 09/10/2018 09:43

If the Pope isn't up for the gig, would there be someone from the RC church who would give an alternative perspective?

The problem with many conservative religious people is that as well as objecting to transgenderism they are also homophobic. They wouldn't be very good at presenting the feminist viewpoint, and might even push some people the other way.
