Oh my GOD!!! I wonder whether they will have a gender critical theologian on tomorrow?

I've complained online.

I stated that it is not appropriate for tftd to be used to promote a current government consultation, particularly when a clear bias is being presented.

Floisme · 09/10/2018 10:14

I think it’s interesting that Stonewall have been so quick to comment. A more cynical person than me might be wondering if they’d known in advance it was coming up.

LizzieSiddal · 09/10/2018 10:26

Stonewall probably instigated it!

vaginafetishist · 09/10/2018 10:29

The number of people on her twitter crying and smiling at the braveryHmm

Floisme · 09/10/2018 10:43

I think we should be careful not to make this about the speaker. I feel for any parent in that situation and my complaint is strictly with the BBC for using a religious slot for political purposes, especially when a public consultation is underway.
And I would like to know whether Stonewall had any involvement.

vaginafetishist · 09/10/2018 10:44

Good point

MissHoolee · 09/10/2018 10:48

I think we should be careful not to make this about the speaker.

I agree too. Doing that makes it easy for certain people to point the finger and say look at those bullies rather than engaging in the debate.

but when you meet a transgender person you will realise they aren’t scary’

I didn't really feel like that when I encountered a transwoman in the woman's toilets at Tesco's the other day. Not sure what it was that made me anxious, was it the beard, the fake boobs, or the general male entitled agressive attitude as he stood there staring at myself and my child. Sure some transwomen arent scary. Obviously. And others really are.

Starkstaring · 09/10/2018 11:50

Unfortunately being non-binary and having XX chromosones can often mean taking Testosterone and having a mastectomy (not sure much medical intervention is required of an XY non-binary person - funny that).

I felt for her as a mother of a transgender adult child - she really has very little choice but to be seen to drink the KoolAid in public if she is to keep a close relationship, and pray that not too much physical damage is done.

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/10/2018 12:16

Melanie Phillips is Jewish and GC.

VickyEadie · 09/10/2018 12:19

but when you meet a transgender person you will realise they aren’t scary’

If I met Karen White in Tesco bogs I'd be terrified.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 09/10/2018 12:26

Christina Farrow is a Catholic journalist. She'd be good too. Did a GC interview on TV recently.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 09/10/2018 12:28

I feel for her too, but I can't see why that justifies going on Radio 4 and using Thought for the Day in this way.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/10/2018 12:30

You mean Caroline Farrow? You're right, she'd be excellent.

TorchesTorches · 09/10/2018 13:15

I have made a complaint and said using the religious slot has 'protected' her views from counterargument and debate. I asked for a GC commentator to be in the slot before 19th October and also a debate with 2 sides on Womans Hour also before 19th October.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 09/10/2018 13:21

Yes, sorry, should have checked the name!

aliloandabanana · 09/10/2018 14:18

Interestingly, the recording is no longer available on the BBC website. I listened to it on there earlier as I missed it live but it's disappeared now...

I have complained, so I look forward to their response.

Charliethefeminist · 09/10/2018 16:58

It seems to be there?

NoSquirrels · 09/10/2018 17:17

It hasn't been uploaded to the TFTD page yet, but I'm not sure if that's standard or not. You can still listen to it on the Today programme listing - it's at 1.47.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 10/10/2018 20:53

Has anyone heard anything from the BBC regarding their complaint?

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 17/10/2018 16:10

I have received the reply below from the BBC

This is an update to let you know that we had referred your complaint to the relevant people and regret that it may take a little longer before we can reply. Please do not contact us in the meantime.

Although we reply to most complaints within 2 weeks we cannot achieve this every time. It depends on what your complaint was about and how many others we are handling, or may sometimes be due to more practical issues. For example a production team may already be working on another programme or have gone on location.

Has anyone else heard back?

TorchesTorches · 17/10/2018 18:51

I got exactly the same email in response to my complaint.

OldCrone · 17/10/2018 18:54

I got the same reply today.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 17/10/2018 19:00

So why do we think there is a delay in responding?

borntobequiet · 17/10/2018 19:53

They had the same person on Woman’s Hour discussing the GRA, even though what she had to say was largely irrelevant.
