Anybody think we could do with some accurate polling?

If so, a YouGov survey asking unambiguous questions about male bodies and female spaces would be very helpful, right?

I couldn't possibly link to a crowdfund for that exact purpose on here but @helenstaniland on Twitter might have some helpful information. Two questions would be good but, as I type, I'm thinking that three questions would be better.

Yes! I am not on Twitter, can you send me a PM? I have PMs a few people on here about it, but not got my act together yet.

Ereshkigal · 07/10/2018 08:55

YYY. With non loaded questions. I've been thinking this for a while.

inquiquotiokixul · 07/10/2018 08:56

I've been thinking about this exact thing and will take a look at the twitter link - thank you.

I think a really important pair of questions would be:

  • do you think that gender stereotypes and gendered toys are damaging for children as they grow up?
  • How strongly, on a scale of 0 to 10, do you identify with the gender stereotypes of your birth sex?

I suspect that the latter questions will demonstrate that pretty much everyone is "trans" and this would be strong evidence that any segregation on the basis of gender identification is silly and everything should be either unisex if there is no grounds of safety/privacy/dignity etc or should be on the basis of biology.

KatVonGulag · 07/10/2018 08:57

Yes. It would be really interesting to see an unbiased poll.

Gentlygently · 07/10/2018 08:57

Not to worry, found it. Donation coming up.

LangCleg · 07/10/2018 08:59

There might be a page on crowdfunder dot co dot uk and it might be called Women Ask but I couldn't be entirely sure.

Two questions good, four questions better? What does that remind me of Grin.

tediousnamechange · 07/10/2018 09:05

Inquiq, whilst I understand those questions and would answer in a way that demonstrates your concerns, honestly, a very large proportion of the general public don't think gendered toys etc are damaging and do enjoy things associated with their sex. Speaking from what I see among colleagues and families of the children I teach, and some fellow parents. Results might look rather brexit ish.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 07/10/2018 09:07

inquiquotiokixul - I'm not sure your questions would get the answers you're expecting tbh.

Outside of being heavily involved in the debates (both the trans debates and the let toys be toys campaign) I doubt many people have thought about enough.

LangCleg · 07/10/2018 09:17

I think Helen is looking more at getting clarity on the public's views about male bodies in women's spaces.

Gentlygently · 07/10/2018 09:28

Excellent. Best of luck with the wording. If there is enough money (and fingers crossed....) one about women's sport perhaps?

HandsOffMyRights · 07/10/2018 09:37

They're currently at about £1600 with a stretch target of 2k.

LangCleg · 07/10/2018 09:49

Helen says:

We've raised enough for 3 questions. The stretch target is 5 so we can ask if the public believes that saying women don't have a penis is hate speech, or women gathering to talk about the GRA is hate speech.

So, three questions about male bodies and two about hate speech. If possible.

@ChattyLion you and I PM’d about this a while ago. I had a different user name I think. Someone else has got their act together better than me!

Ereshkigal · 07/10/2018 09:58

Ooh will absolutely donate.

SlothSlothSloth · 07/10/2018 10:00

I think the three key things the survey needs to make clear are that a) most trans women still have penises b) most trans women are sexually attracted to women c) no treatment at all is required to be considered female under self ID. A specific reference to the fact that this includes sports and prisons might be useful.

I think a survey that does not clarify these points will still lead to inaccurate results.

Galvantula · 07/10/2018 10:01

👍

LangCleg · 07/10/2018 10:02

a) most trans women still have penises

This is the principal aim.

brilliant idea

thanks for sign posting Lang

I had some money left over at the end of the month (unusual!) which has just found a home

Cuntysnark · 07/10/2018 10:15

Dipped into my new sewing machine fund to donate. Said fund is down to a pack of Aldi pins but I’ll donate that if needed. Wink
