In fact even better than that, Woman's Place UK and Transgender Trend will be going too.

I (Nicola Williams) will be one of the three women attending in order to answer MP’s questions about how proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act will affect women’s rights.

Womans Place UK and Fair Play For Women have both requested to meet with Penny Mordaunt, Minister for Women and Equalities, to represent the concerns and questions of the thousands of women who support us, but have not been granted a meeting.

So, we are taking the meeting to the House of Commons to give Penny Mordaunt, and all MPs, the opportunity to meet us, ask questions and hear our views. All they need to do is drop in and meet us. This is the opportunity for MPs to hear the voices of women concerned by these changes and to increase their knowledge about this subject in a calm, confidential environment.

Every MP has received a formal invitation for this meeting but we need YOU to make sure they come. Please email your constituency MP telling them that you support us and ask them to confirm to you that they will attend this meeting.

You can find your MPs details here www.writetothem.com/
Email them this weekend before their diaries get filled. The meeting is just 10 days from now.

Meeting: How will changes to the Gender Recognition Act affect women’s rights? Tuesday 16th October 2018 at 10:30am until 12:30pm in Room S, House of Commons

Except I'm tempted to just write #womendonthavepenises

Chosenone · 09/10/2018 22:48

Done. female and labour so not massively hopeful although she has been outspoken over a few local issues relevant to Women. Consultation finished too.

HandsOffMyRights · 09/10/2018 22:59

Queenofthedrivensnow you should think he's a bit of a numpty.

For sure. Not impressed.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 09/10/2018 23:11

I want to write 'why not?'

I emailed my muppet of an MP last weekend, I had a reply from their caseworker on Monday to say they already have diary commitments then and inform me of the GRA consultation which 'I may wish to fill in', which is something I guess.

I have replied today to request they instead send a researcher on their behalf to find out more about an increasingly high profile and contentious issue, as it will impact 50% of their voting constituency and impact many areas around the safeguarding of children

(points shamelessly taken from several clever posters uprhread Blush)

ThelmaRB · 09/10/2018 23:31

@candidpeel - there’s two of us then!! Hurrah!

Labradoodliedoodoo · 10/10/2018 03:49

Luke pollard MP should make attending the meeting and engaging in discussion a priority. Fully listen to females and the groups that represent females during this consultation period is beyond important.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 10/10/2018 04:01

My labour MP was very non committal about attending also.

sashh · 10/10/2018 06:35

Thanks for the explanations. I have emailed my MP, no reply yet.

KatVonGulag · 10/10/2018 07:11

I've tried! Fingers crossed

OhHolyJesus · 10/10/2018 07:21

Mine has replied to say he can't go but is reading up and supports women.

Whether that includes TWAW I don't know.

I despair of all this I really do.

Cuntysnark · 10/10/2018 07:22

I got a reply from my MP’s communication & support officer telling me he’d ‘pass to him at the earliest opportunity.’ I just hope it’s before the 16th...

Cuntysnark · 10/10/2018 07:25

:-/ I’ve reported my post. To get the name removed. What times we live in 😧

Cuntysnark · 10/10/2018 07:35

I’ve now replied suggesting that, if he’s unable to attend such an important meeting as this, he sends a researcher and I will ask him when I see him what he’s doing about hearing the message.

boatyardblues · 10/10/2018 08:17

TopBitch - I’d be responding along the lines of “I might give you my vote at the next election, but I might not make it to the polling station....”

Queenofthedrivensnow · 10/10/2018 08:21

This is the reply to sending a researcher

Thanks Nicola. Done.

Nicknamesalltaken · 10/10/2018 08:27

Queen - his personal belief is up to him, but as your representative in Parliament he really shouldn’t be so narrow minded. Numpty indeed!

Manderleyagain · 10/10/2018 08:49

Queenofthedrivensnow You could contact FPFW, WPUK and TG and ask for materials so you can send him a pack, with your letter explaining why you think its important. It's better than nothing. Mine hasn't replied so he's doing better than mine!

The reason I thought he sounded like a numpty was in the first tweet 'trans women are women, trans men are men, non binary is valid'. He has got his opinion off a t-shirt. He is re-iterating a marketing slogan.

We have to show them that is isn't about marketing slogans, or whether trans women are women (which depends on your personal definition of 'woman'). The consultation is basically asking 'what criteria should we use for giving male-bodied people the right to be treated by the law as if they are female bodied.?'

It's more complex than an advertising slogan. It is about balancing the rights of different groups. We have to explain to them why it is more complex than they have been led to believe and therefore needs careful consideration.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 10/10/2018 08:58

Well there are 3 mps for Plymouth only Luke pollard replied and I'm blocked by Johnny mercer

R0wantrees · 10/10/2018 09:02

article by Prof. Michael Biggs about Mermaids and other TRAs use of suicide statistics in reference to the drama Butterfly:
www.transgendertrend.com/suicide-by-trans-identified-children-in-england-and-wales/

& news of a new minister for suicide prevention who one hopes will be made aware of this as a need for investigation and action:

liquidrevolution · 10/10/2018 09:10

My local MP is Michael Benyon a literal dinosaur so there is little hope he will turn up. But have sent him an email anyway.

Shocking about Penny mordant.

HandsOffMyRights · 10/10/2018 09:11

I'm cautious to post responses on here if TRAs are contacting MPs too. If that's the case, then this is another example of gagging debate during this key consultation.

There are now so many examples of how women's debate around this consultation is being stopped. Enough to put a legal argument together that this has not been a balanced and open public consultation at all.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 10/10/2018 09:33

@HandsOffMyRights likewise I won't be sending my personal details to any mp after all the doxxing.

Redkeyboard · 10/10/2018 09:46

If anyone got doxxed from sending details into an MP that would be a major news story. I do understand why people are cautious, but if it got to the point where you couldn’t contact your elected representative for fear of being doxxed, democracy would have pretty much broken. I don’t think we’re there at the moment.
