Fair Play For Women meeting MPs at House of Common on 16th October

In fact even better than that, Woman's Place UK and Transgender Trend will be going too.

I (Nicola Williams) will be one of the three women attending in order to answer MP’s questions about how proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act will affect women’s rights.

Womans Place UK and Fair Play For Women have both requested to meet with Penny Mordaunt, Minister for Women and Equalities, to represent the concerns and questions of the thousands of women who support us, but have not been granted a meeting.

So, we are taking the meeting to the House of Commons to give Penny Mordaunt, and all MPs, the opportunity to meet us, ask questions and hear our views. All they need to do is drop in and meet us. This is the opportunity for MPs to hear the voices of women concerned by these changes and to increase their knowledge about this subject in a calm, confidential environment.

Every MP has received a formal invitation for this meeting but we need YOU to make sure they come. Please email your constituency MP telling them that you support us and ask them to confirm to you that they will attend this meeting.

You can find your MPs details here www.writetothem.com/
Email them this weekend before their diaries get filled. The meeting is just 10 days from now.

Meeting: How will changes to the Gender Recognition Act affect women’s rights? Tuesday 16th October 2018 at 10:30am until 12:30pm in Room S, House of Commons

@DoctorW please will you keep a register and post up a list of which MPs attended?

FoldyRoll · 10/10/2018 10:04

Bump for this, and also, happy news! I had the following response from my female Labour MP:

^Thank you for your e-mail and for alerting me to this event next week, which I am unable to attend as it clashes with a meeting of the Treasury Select Committee (of which I am a member).

I did, however, write over the summer to the Women & Equalities Minister to share my concerns that it is unacceptable for any woman to be, or feel, threatened as a result of sharing their views on this issue, and about the tone of this debate to date. I also shared with the Minister that I appreciate concerns expressed about any changes to the law which may impact upon hard-won rights, and that all voices need to be respectfully heard in this debate.

I am yet to receive a response to this correspondence, but will of course also send a copy to you as soon as I do.^

She is generally a good egg. I don't agree with her on everything, but she has integrity and is prepared to act on it against the party line, which has affected her career progression in the past.

Saw on the FPFW Facebook this morning that Dr Harrop wrote to Dawn Butler and her office responded:

"I can confirm that Dawn is having no involvement with that meeting and continues to be a staunch ally of the trans community"

I am disgusted

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2018 10:23

Can I just suggest people are cautious sharing links that show their twitter name. TRAs can and have searched posters' histories here to glean information in order to doxx on twitter.

What times we live in Sad

FekkoTheLawyer · 10/10/2018 10:26

If anyone got doxxed from sending details into an MP that would be a major news story.

I used a 'clean' email address - I was getting so much spam and junk mail I ended up opening up a new email account a little while ago and am very careful where I used it. In fact I keep a note of when I let anyone have it. This was more of a way of tracking who is passing on addresses or selling info.

FekkoTheLawyer · 10/10/2018 10:30

My MP didn't bother herself to respond:

What should I do if my MP (or other representative) doesn’t reply?
There are lots of things you can do to follow up your enquiry if you get no reply from your representative.

See your MP or other representative in person, raise your issue with them at their local surgery.

Call your MP’s local constituency office or your representative’s party office to arrange this. You can find the number in your local phone book, or on your MP’s website.

Make sure you have taken all other courses of action to raise your issue, or to get your problem solved. For example, contact the relevant central Government department, and relevant officers at your local councils. Ask your local Citizens Advice Bureau for advice.
Write a letter to your local newspaper about your issue, and your dissatisfaction with your MP, MEP or councillor.

Write a letter to your other representatives, such as your MP, your local councillors, MEPs or regional representatives, if appropriate. You can, of course, do this for free using WriteToThem.

Complain about your representative to their local party. Contact the local party office. The local party has the power not to select your MP as a candidate for the next General Election.

charlestonchaplin · 10/10/2018 10:38

I am disappointed to learn, having input my full and proper details (very rare for me online), that that isn't a government website linked to in the original post. I am very concerned, as using variants of my very unusual name is part of my online security strategy. Just take care, people. It is probably easy to find your MP's contact details from his online page or office and contact directly. I am usually quite careful but messed up here.

Elephantinacravat · 10/10/2018 10:55

Yes I'm not too worried about being doxxed from sending my details to my MP - even in the times we live in that would be pretty messed up!

Elephantinacravat · 10/10/2018 10:56

I think you can probably find your MP's contact details through a few different avenues if you don't want to use the Write To Them site.

GeneticTest · 10/10/2018 11:17

Most MPs have their contact details on their website.
Writetothem wont ever release email addresses.
Most MPs won’t respond unless you give full name and address to make sure you are a constituent as they are not allowed to act for non constituents.

NoSquirrels · 10/10/2018 12:01

Never written to an MP before, but have now. Don't hold out much hope, but know it is time to go on record! Best hope I reckon is that his admin staff or researchers are women and will read all the links I have included and become horrified. . .

beenandgoneandbackagain · 10/10/2018 12:08

I have written to my MP. She's a woman but I suspect she is still drinking Koolaid.

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 10/10/2018 12:11

Done. Don't hold out much hope for my woke as fuck MP though.

Redshoeblueshoe · 10/10/2018 12:22

Mine has just replied, she says she's in a Select Committee meeting, but will try and drop in.
Well it's a better response than Dawn Butler

charlestonchaplin · 10/10/2018 12:28

My MP has made all the right noises and says he will try to attend if his other commitments allow. I'm not confident he will but the general tone of his email implies he isn't a lost cause. I will try to get others to also keep him on his toes, including the local Muslim community.

Invisible1234 · 10/10/2018 12:48

Knicknackpaddyflak · 10/10/2018 12:58

Still waiting for a reply from mine.

Baffled at how 'dangerous' Dr Harrop and others think it is for MPs to hear this stuff. It's almost like they're afraid that if they hear it they'll be convinced on the spot. Which, if what FPFW is saying really is so ridiculous and morally wrong and dismissable, shouldn't sway anyone.

Instead there's a whole lot of FGS no one let them hear the truth/see the man behind the curtain!

RustyParker · 10/10/2018 13:34

I've just emailed my MP; Female, Labour, North West. She states on her website she has a special interest in women in sports but has definitely drunk the kool-aid. I've pointed this out and explained the consequences for womens sport if self id goes through and urged her to attend.

Janie143 · 10/10/2018 14:05

Sent to Fiona Bruce Conservative MP

adulthumanandtired · 10/10/2018 14:28

Wrote to my MP, who had already confirmed to me that she is a kool-aid fan. So i don't expect much back.

gendercriticalmom · 10/10/2018 14:54

Done! Cant believe Penny won't attend !

PersonWithAVulva · 10/10/2018 15:43

My MP seems to be ignoring me on the topic. Which is odd as usually theres a reply within hours from his office, and hes generally really understanding even if he doesn't agree as such. As such, I wonder if certain requests are filtered out by his assistants as 'not important' Hmm

FekkoTheLawyer · 10/10/2018 15:50

Any MP with the words woman and or equality who refuses to attend this meeting (in parliament) should be fired.

Halfeatentoast · 10/10/2018 16:06

Done!

StillAFeminist · 10/10/2018 16:51
