In fact even better than that, Woman's Place UK and Transgender Trend will be going too.

I (Nicola Williams) will be one of the three women attending in order to answer MP’s questions about how proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act will affect women’s rights.

Womans Place UK and Fair Play For Women have both requested to meet with Penny Mordaunt, Minister for Women and Equalities, to represent the concerns and questions of the thousands of women who support us, but have not been granted a meeting.

So, we are taking the meeting to the House of Commons to give Penny Mordaunt, and all MPs, the opportunity to meet us, ask questions and hear our views. All they need to do is drop in and meet us. This is the opportunity for MPs to hear the voices of women concerned by these changes and to increase their knowledge about this subject in a calm, confidential environment.

Every MP has received a formal invitation for this meeting but we need YOU to make sure they come. Please email your constituency MP telling them that you support us and ask them to confirm to you that they will attend this meeting.

You can find your MPs details here www.writetothem.com/
Email them this weekend before their diaries get filled. The meeting is just 10 days from now.

Meeting: How will changes to the Gender Recognition Act affect women’s rights? Tuesday 16th October 2018 at 10:30am until 12:30pm in Room S, House of Commons

Writing to my MP to ask them to attend and making a quick run down of cases they should read up on:

White
the Challoners
Bradley
Fae
The actions of Leeds Council
The actions of the Manchester police

Who have I forgotten please? The cases have come thick and fast of late.

Mumfun · 08/10/2018 21:47

My MP (conservative) wrote to say that he cant make it as in a Treasury Committee meeting scheduled for same time :(

I had an idea . They always have researchers etc. Could a researcher go to represent the MP? Would open their eyes!

theOtherPamAyres · 09/10/2018 01:32

MPs teetering on the edge with small majorities, in marginal seats, ought to be motivated to attend.

BitOfFun · 09/10/2018 01:53

Done!

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 09/10/2018 02:14

Does anyone think it would it be worth contacting Naz Shah, the Shadow Minister of State for Women and Equalities?

With Penny Mordaunt turning her back on the women she is paid to represent, what are the chances that the shadow minister is any braver?

My MP is the eternally embarrassing Boris Johnson. He will be far too sure but I’ll email him anyway sigh

Boris' sister, Rachel Johnson, gets it. She was on the Sky debate just over a week ago discussing Guides.

Boris could be among those who go.

I wonder if David Davis will go?

My mother has written to her MP too.

poshme · 09/10/2018 07:33

Mumfun yes MPs can send researchers along.

poshme · 09/10/2018 07:34

Handsoff which DD?
One is helping organise it.

sashh · 09/10/2018 08:11

I work for an MP. He is hoping to go, but may send a researcher if other stuff gets busy.

Please, ask him on my behalf, what is more important than the safe guarding of children?

I know MPs don't care much about women but they could at least care about children.

Sashh if MPs are in select committees they have to go to them, or bill committees. They may already have meetings booked in- with constituents, with ministers, with business/charities etc etc. They might be chairing an APPG.
As there is no legislation currently proposed about GRA, it’s not a high priority for most MPs.
My MP has had maybe 2 emails about it. No more. We have had hundreds about footpaths & farms & pubs just in the last week, as that is upcoming legislation. GRA is not really on the agenda yet.

Couragetocourage · 09/10/2018 12:34

Agree with GeneticTest. I work for an MP and he's had one single email about it. I've spoken to him about it and he says he'll go and drop in, but I don't think it's easy to get across to people who haven't had the subject on their radar how important it is.

ArkeNOTen · 09/10/2018 12:39

Done and
bump
and
don't forget to put your name and address to show you are a valid constituent of your MP

AccioWine · 09/10/2018 12:49

Done and already had a reply. He's very "on board" on paper but it will be interesting to see if this translates to real world support.

UpstartCrow · 09/10/2018 12:51

If you use the link you also have to go to your inbox and confirm by clicking the link in the email they send you.

ShotsFired · 09/10/2018 13:09

I have emailed my MP (yet again) and have had confirmation it is in his diary. Although on a "if he is available" caveat so who knows.

I have also responded to advise how PM has refused to meet with AWP and FPFW.

OhHolyJesus · 09/10/2018 13:13

Emailed MP about the meeting and got a response from my email about the GRA and concerns about it.

Has anyone emailed the team who are running the GRA? I'm going to send through my list of concerns before the end of this week, off to complete more of the GRA now...

Elephantinacravat · 09/10/2018 13:31

Yes, imagine that living where I do, I am the sole emailer of my MP! And he isn't the type that will go either - I've only had a confirmation of receipt email so far and I'm not holding out much hope, but I if I don't email him then he definitely won't go!

stripes1 · 09/10/2018 13:35

Emailed mine

RhubarbCrumbled · 09/10/2018 13:43

Done.

I've written to Helen Whately but her voting record on any issues relating to human and women's rights are abysmal. Although maybe she's so traditional, she might vote for women for a change.

PersonWithAVulva · 09/10/2018 13:48

I have just been on facebook and see TRAs are de4sperately trying tio find out which MP sponsiered the meeting, no doubt so they can spame them nonestop until the day of it to teach them for giving a shit about female people.

I also see they are whinging that no transwomen are going to be speaking! Like, because transactivists always make sure that women get a voice?! Its misogynistic as fuck to always expect women to care about everyone bar themselves. Why would transwomen need to be represented, when this is various people concerned about the rights of FEMALE people? There are enough events (allowed to go on without threats and intimidation too) where transactivist propaganda and often just outright lies is gone over.

DontCisgenderMe · 09/10/2018 13:58

I've emailed mine too. I've only had the confirmation of receipt so far.

She is aware of the issue and is firmly TWAW. She also manages to hold this opinion whilst celebrating the suffragettes and benefitting from an all-women shortlist.

BlooperReel · 09/10/2018 14:08

I have emailed my MP, thank you

Elephantinacravat · 09/10/2018 15:53

I have had my reply - as expected he is not able to make it but 'certainly understands' my concerns and will be following the developments with the GRA consultations.

The best I could hope for really!
