US swimming authorities to let athletes choose to compete as male or female

Transgender athletes will be able to compete in their chosen category even if someone files a protest refuting their status.

Oh for goodness sake we mustn't let this happen in our country this is just such a nonsense and so unfair to women.

Just got up to watch MMA, reading this thread at the same time. I wonder whether or not there are any trans athletes competing within this arena or similar ones, boxing, etc. Would be interesting, and if not, why not? A trans woman competing in a female fighting sport? Still fair game?

Occasionally women on mumsnet say that they're going to get their husbands together to enter the change rooms at TopShop or something in order to trigger PeakTrans.

But I think having all their sons identify as a woman FOR AN HOUR during the swim training/meets and win all the prizes (and of course flip back to man after the HOUR is over) would be a much better plan. All those lovely "ladies" lined up by the pool for a photo shoot with their manly physiques would get tons of media attention, so an enormous win there, secondly it would highlight the absurdity and ease at flip-flopping from one sex category to the other, plus (unlike the plan for TopShop) no random female would be unexpectedly shocked at the presence of men since they would all be aware of the plan.

Transwomen in sports seem to trigger shock and outrage like nothing else and this would highlight all the problems perfectly. I wish a group would do this. please please please.

I'm quite surprised we haven't had a male tennis player yet (apart from Renee Richards in the 70's, who did at least fully transition) but surely it will happen soon. It makes complete financial sense - struggling along at 350 barely managing to scrape enough of a living to pay for flights and a travel lodge, or say you're a woman and win the top prizes, same prize money as the men now. If a man in Canada will do it to save $1000 on his car insurance surely they'll do it to win £2.25m .

oh dear god. And the insurance companies will go along it, because after enough men do this then the rates for "women" will skyrocket. So everybody will be paying the higher men's rate.
