Transgender athletes will be able to compete in their chosen category even if someone files a protest refuting their status.

Oh for goodness sake we mustn't let this happen in our country this is just such a nonsense and so unfair to women.

What will self ID trans boys wear? FINA rules mean they can't wear a top to compete. That's not going encourage participation.
And trans girls will get the additional advantage of a full body race suit, which are banned in male competition. Making them even hard to compete with.

I think the full body race suit is the least of our worries here. The male physiology should be ample advantage.

It just another example of how no one has thought any of this through. Especially in swimming where full body male racesuits were a hot issue for a long time and were basically considered cheating.

Won't spectators just laugh? If I saw some hulking men in the podium of a womans race I would laugh. It's rediculous.

I will not ever be a female Olympic swimmer, because I was born into the wrong body - it's a female one, but just a little bit short, with small feet and a short wing span. So nature has ruined my chances of being a female Olympic athlete. I'm over it though.

So why do men get to be female Olympic swimmers? Why can't they accept that like me, they do not have the correct bodies for it?

Women and girls who are the performance pathway for their sport CANNOT do this. If they do not abide by the rules of their governing body they will get kicked out and not be allowed to compete in any registered event.

International competition has strict rules in place where chromosomal abnormalities occur eg XXX or XYY, maximum testosterone levels are defined and chromosome tests have to be submitted. What is done at club level in the Us is irrelevant

It's going to be a long long slow slog to create women's events for women again.

The public and governing bodies will see TIMS take medal after medal from the woman's competition before anyone has the guts to speak against it and make collective change. We are living in a period of demise for women.

The overall message, whether sport, girl guides and so on, is that girls, and their views don’t matter.

Propertionality. The needs of a single trans gender girl trump the needs of other girls, and the needs of trans boys count for nothing.

Not to the girls in those clubs it isn't, or to the 'pipeline' of competitive female swimmers in the USA which I assume these clubs should be contributing too, or to the sports scholarships which might be contingent on success in the junior competitions.

The IOC set the precident that some male born athletes could compete in female sports but with criteria eg blood tests for testosterone levels.

In amateur sport where blood testing is not usual, this aspect is dropped. The principle that a male athlete who identifies as a female can compete remains.

There cant be discrimination as to whether a transgirl/ transwoman should have surgery, take hormones etc

When I first came across the trans v women's rights issue, I figured sport would be the thing that put paid to 'trans women are women', because it is so so so fucking obvious in sporting terms that trans women are men. And yet here we are.

Pootlepug I'm quite surprised we haven't had a male tennis player yet (apart from Renee Richards in the 70's, who did at least fully transition) but surely it will happen soon. It makes complete financial sense - struggling along at 350 barely managing to scrape enough of a living to pay for flights and a travel lodge, or say you're a woman and win the top prizes, same prize money as the men now. If a man in Canada will do it to save $1000 on his car insurance surely they'll do it to win £2.25m .
Damn it I'd do it if I could. Then of course the mixed doubles will be less mixed - perhaps it'll take a man who is playing with an actual female partner to get cross that they are playing two men. Maybe it needs a man to start complaining??? And what about the advertising endorsements - will the advertisers swallow their medicine?

In a way, swimming is a good sport to establish the sex based biological answers. (in addition to all of the above)
