My friend just posted this on Facebook this morning. She isn't on MN so I have her permission to share. She would really like more people, especially people with ASD or who have children with ASD, to write to NAS thanking them for their willingness to listen and their agreement that Mermaids is not reputable.

This is really great news so please can we keep this bumped and shared. Thank you.

If posters on the SEN board would like to share that would also be great (if appropriate).

Dear XXXX ,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the Gender and autism page on our website.

I’m writing to let you know that I’ve raised your concerns regarding Mermaids UK, one of the organisations we link to on our Gender and autism page, with a number of teams within the National Autistic Society. In light of the concerns raised in your message, and of other feedback that we have received, we have decided to remove all links to Mermaids UK from our website, while we take the time to consult with relevant professionals and to reconsider which organisations we wish to place links to on our website.

As such, our Web Team are working to remove all links to Mermaids UK from our website as soon as possible. Please do be aware, however, that, as we are currently in the process of updating our website to reflect our new branding and organisational identity, it may take a few days for this to be actioned.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, and I hope that you are satisfied with the actions we are taking in light of the concerns that you have raised.

Kind regards,

National Autistic Society

YeTalkShiteHen I am involved with a legal group. Please keep me informed

pennydrew · 06/10/2018 11:40

Maybe my daughter will contact them directly herself and get her friends too. My husband won’t as he doesn’t like autistic orgs or professionals much... so he just says leave them to it, we don’t need them 💁🏽‍♀️

Anyone else think if it was never posted here this wouldn’t have been reversed? Maybe Mumsnet is no longer the best place to network, since it’s open and the creeps lurk and retweet what we are doing?

placemats · 06/10/2018 11:40

I would be interested to know if Stonewall and Mermaids would exist on public donations alone. I'm guessing they would fold.

There are not enough women in those organisations willing to do the donkey work of collections.

I give to local grass roots charities.

MyCatIsBonkers · 06/10/2018 11:40

I hate the NAS. They do not serve the best interests of autistic people anymore. They serve themselves first and their donors.

Does anyone remember the thread on here where they stalked an autistic person who was complaining about them? They weren't interested in the experience of the autistic person, only in how their reputation with other posters.

lunarain · 06/10/2018 11:41

Can anyone please explain to me why Twitter has all the pro trans comments at the top and all the dissenting voices are hidden at the bottom under 'more comments' How has this happened? Who has separated the comments like this?

pennydrew · 06/10/2018 11:41

Oh it’s eugenics alright. That’s exactly what it is.

pennydrew · 06/10/2018 11:42

MyCatIsBonkers

I had heard that story but not here, so wasn’t sure if it were true.

They did help me with diagnosis but not much to be fair. We don’t get any practical support from them. Apart from ‘awareness campaigns’, what do they offer as support?

DayMay · 06/10/2018 11:43

I also fully agree that effectively sterilising autistic people is dangerously close to, if not actually, eugenics.

Yes TRA threaten gulags especially at Goldsmiths university and totalitarianism.

We no longer live in a democracy.

The government funds TRA.

The government and BBC lie.

The government will not debate.

The government it seems to me are pushing a NAZI agenda.

placemats · 06/10/2018 11:44

My opinion is it's sinister; correct the gay. It does seem to be bordering on eugenics.

pennydrew · 06/10/2018 11:44

YeTalkShiteHen Were you not aware people are self IDing as autistic? Now I understand older people with genuine traits but difficulty in getting a diagnosis...

But this lot...

DayMay · 06/10/2018 11:45

They serve themselves first and their donors.

Charities should not be run by people who don't have the diagnosis of people with malignant personality disorders.

DayMay · 06/10/2018 11:45

That should be or not of.

TerfedOff · 06/10/2018 11:45

Twitter has silenced all gender critical accounts by hiding them.

To get round this rejoin under a new account and your voice will be shown. Then retweet using your existing account.

Or ask followers to do so. It's all getting very sinister if you ask me.

Needmoresleep · 06/10/2018 11:46

Happy to donate the money I would have given to the NAS to you.

MyCatIsBonkers · 06/10/2018 11:46

I had heard that story but not here, so wasn’t sure if it were true.

Definitely true. I was the OP in an earlier life.

DayMay · 06/10/2018 11:46

Self-ID and fabricated illness what's the difference?

YeTalkShiteHen · 06/10/2018 11:50

I didn’t realise people were claiming to be autistic when they aren’t. Stupidly it hadn’t even crossed my mind.

MyCatIsBonkers · 06/10/2018 11:50

Charities should not be run by people who don't have the diagnosis of people with malignant personality disorders.

The NAS wasn't set up by autistic people or for autistic people. It was originally set up by NT people, with links to autism, to support other NT people affect by autsim. ie parents of autistic kds.

DayMay · 06/10/2018 11:52

Labour youth self-ID as race along with gender and disability.

I agree penny

That's not to deride the legitimate concerns of the OP.

Perhaps we should have a week (or three) that ignores any trans related issues. Only after 19th October the last day of the GRA consultation.

LikeDustWeRise · 06/10/2018 11:54

In DPs line of work there are a lot of people who I assume are aspies and I remember chatting to a bloke at a work do about 10 years ago about his vision for a technological utopia (I have since discovered is 'transhumanism') - where we completely transcend our bodies using virtual reality, suits with sensors, etc.
I said to him "what about having a great snog? You can't replicate that with technology" he did concur. The vision is also about replacing bodyparts with synthetic versions and becoming sort of bionic. I think he has since moved to silicone valley.

I fear transhumanism is an appealing prospect to people who find social situations difficult.

Mermaid's cavalier attitude towards surgical and medical interventions would not register as dangerous to someone who has bought into the idea of transhumanism. Loving the body you are in is a message they desperately need to be reminded of constantly.

YeTalkShiteHen · 06/10/2018 12:00

If someone is going to challenge this it's important to know who supports Mermaids inclusion in NAS materials.

That’s a fair point too. I’ll admit I’m more than a little scared to stick my head above the parapet. It needs to be done, but carefully and especially on the legal side, with very intensive research.

Any solicitors/lawyers around who could advise?

LikeDustWeRise · 06/10/2018 12:07

This is a great resource for understanding about the Twitter bias, particularly Dana MaCallum gendertrender.wordpress.com/tag/twitter/

Besically the staff at twitter use all sorts of algorithms to keep platform in line with a pro trans bias.

CuriousQuestions · 06/10/2018 12:09

@YeTalkShiteHen
'Equally fair?

Equally fair?

Where? When?'

Because using the same process for everything brings in a benchmark and as I said makes it 'equally fair'

'If they reinstate those links, I’m going after them, legally. I’m done with this shit'

please don't do that, where do you think funding that would come from? The coffers which help autistic people
