Penny Mordaunt thinks the public need re-educated on trans rights issues

She has just addressed the Stonewall event at Conservative Conferenve.

Thread here:

mobile.twitter.com/LGBTCons/status/1047211456318595072

Given she hasn’t even met with any women’s groups concerned about the clash with their rights, or bothered with even a webchat here to find out what mumsnetters are actually worried about, I find this a rather sinister stance.

The political line of removing women’s legal right to say ‘No’ to being naked or vulnerable in front of males is really not the route to future Prime Ministership is it?

It’s like a blindness to actual biological women.

I’m glad about the research into medical referrals though. At least she has stood up for evidence-based policy around children’s health.

Though how we’ve got to the point of being grateful a Minister would take that into account I don’t know...

I don't believe her

Charliethefeminist · 02/10/2018 22:09

Actions speak louder than words. She talks the talk. She's not walking the walk.

Redkeyboard · 02/10/2018 22:09

Don’t worry Charlie , once you’ve been re-educated it will all become clear.

ThefusilliJerry · 02/10/2018 22:11

She never struck me as an especially bright spark.
I don’t need her to teach me anything.

noeffingidea · 02/10/2018 22:21

The public has already re educated themselves on trans rights issues, Penny. That's why most of us aren't falling for the bullshit any more.

GulagsMyArse · 02/10/2018 22:36

Yes Angry the poll tax, I hadn't thought about that. sometimes I think it will go through and its only after people really see the impact that the shit will hit the fan.

HandsOffMyRights · 02/10/2018 22:42

Bonerwall posted this

Minister for Women & Equalities
@PennyMordaunt
thanks
@stonewalluk
& everyone in room for being steadfast in face of hate; says we stand by #trans people who have faced so much hatred in past year; need to make #GRA reform and more a reality #ComeOutForTransEquality

arranfan · 02/10/2018 22:45

I put it to Penny Mordant that she is in dire need of some form of education on the issue of the origins of totalitarianism as revealed through our short history of democracy.

I think it's interesting however that as a women with privilege, Penny is happy to place women as a lower caste because her privilege will always place her in a higher caste than the one conferred by her actual biological sex. (I'm using Sheila Jeffrey's sex castes here: gendertrender.wordpress.com/2014/04/04/exclusive-preview-gender-hurts-by-sheila-jeffreys/ )

Redkeyboard · 02/10/2018 22:51

Yes, Penny won’t be sharing a prison with a rapist and no chance of escape, will she?

Very easy to be generous with other people’s rights.

That tweet by Stonewall with come out for trans equality and featuring Penny Mordaunt is basically an endorsement of their position during an open consultation.

That is ridiculous.

OP posts:
HandsOffMyRights · 02/10/2018 22:59

Is there any legal or regulatory avenue to challenge the fact that the minister who is leading a public consultation is clearly showing unprecedented favour to one group?

Redkeyboard · 02/10/2018 23:11

Good question, Hands

OP posts:
JackyHolyoake · 02/10/2018 23:19

The GRA public consultation may 'encourage' a change in position Wink

DuckingGoodPJs · 02/10/2018 23:21

Why don't they just ditch the 'women' from the equalities portfolio.

They need to, it’s become a clear conflict of rights and interests and needs deprecate representation. Biological women need a Minister who represents them and their interests and rights, as against penis owners.

Yes, absolutely.

OlennasWimple · 02/10/2018 23:25

I don't "hate trans people". I hate certain transwomen (Karen White, Jacinta whatshisname), but surely any right thinking person would. I can't think of any transmen I hate.

Is "hate" another word whose definition is being revised?

WanderinWomb · 02/10/2018 23:32

Is "hate" another word whose definition is being revised?

They won't tell us now but am sure the new meaning will be "educated" into us at the Mordaunt Goldsmith gulag.

UpstartCrow · 02/10/2018 23:34

It must be lovely living in that ivory tower.

littlecabbage · 02/10/2018 23:35

Out of interest, has Mumsnet invited Penny for a webchat?

If not, has anyone on here asked them to? Is it worth a try, do we think?

Redkeyboard · 02/10/2018 23:59

She was invited little no response yet.

Worth continuing to try.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 03/10/2018 00:09

Yes.

Let's educate the public.

It's not going to go how Mordant wants it to go.

Not if it's aggressively rammed down people's throats.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/10/2018 00:12

Any attempt to push through self ID relies on the public not being educated about what it will mean.

howard97A · 04/10/2018 01:46

Yes.

According to the CPS prosecution guidance hatred is manifested in ‘hostility’, which includes ‘ill-will, ill-feeling, spite, prejudice, unfriendliness, antagonism, resentment, and dislike’.

So, I suppose that if you are unfriendly or antagonistic toward a trans person – eg by disagreeing with their claim to be a woman – that could be ‘hatred’.

Needmoresleep · 04/10/2018 08:12

The Conservatives are the ones who can rein this in. Penny, I understand, sees herself as a future PM. Clearly not, if she is unable to spot how toxic this is and that she is committing political suicide.
