boys who are distracted by knee length skirts and opaque tights need to sit the fuck back

Men in our spaces
Men policing our clothes

Men silencing our objections
Men trying to criminalise self defence

LEAVE WOMEN AND GIRLS ALONE

Do you know, I had an inkling what this was going to be about simply from your title.

I find myself daily astonished that we're faced with all this shite in this day and age and yet - here we are.

AssassinatedBeauty · 02/10/2018 17:42

Bloody hell. Usually the DM tales of uniform woe are ridiculous, but this one I totally agree with the parents and the girls in question. They were wearing the school uniform skirt! To be told they are too sexualised to wear it is horrific. That head teacher should get into serious trouble for that. What attitudes are prevalent towards girls from senior staff at that school I wonder?

silentcrow · 02/10/2018 17:43

Insanity. There really are some tinpot dictators over uniform, and it's usually men picking on girls, especially whose mothers stand up for them. Is it an academy by any chance?

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/10/2018 17:43

Why is wrong with those skirts . They are standard smart school skirts and reach the knees. They both look slim so yes this is the same issue we all have where onve it fits round the waist it's too short or whatever .

They looked very smart

Charliethefeminist · 02/10/2018 17:44

Pisses me off that people don't join the dots. Pretty cool that you knew before opening tho.

KipperTheFrog · 02/10/2018 17:49

I saw the original post on Facebook. It's bloody ridiculous. Those poor girls, having their confidence shattered like that. Nothing wrong with the original skirts.
Why should girls have to have their clothes policed so as not to distract boys? Why aren't the distracted boys being taught not to ogle the girls?
The skirts the head teacher supplied are awful. No way anyone I know would wear that!

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/10/2018 17:51

The problem is rarely the uniform but the body underneath.

Loads of posts on here where a pair of trousers that is fine on one girl is deemed "distracting" or "unsuitable" on another who has a more adult figure.

Same in this case.

Girls at secondary school are growing into women of course some will have bodies that look more adult.

The problem is that female curves - waist / bust / bum > are coded as SEX in most (all?) Western societies and normal girls bodies themselves are deemed scandalous in some way. And the the girl is shamed / punished.

The issue is with men and the fact that many of them see curves and think "sex" and also "old enough" and then say WAAAH I thought she was younger. NO. Girls who are past puberty and growing have ALWAYS LOOKED LIKE THIS and men have always said "I thougth she was older". What they mean is that if girls want to stay unsexulaised and unogled then they should look like girls not women. Of course this is impossible.

Society needs to adjust it's expectations of what girls of different ages look like to meet reality and then treat children as children, and womens' natural bodies need to stop being simply shorthand for "sex" and somehow obscene.

Is my view.

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/10/2018 17:51

Those other ones are not only ghastly they will blow up at any small breeze and are perfect for upskirting.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/10/2018 17:52

WAAAH I thought she was younger.

Older! obv

Datun · 02/10/2018 17:54

Dear God I couldn't get through that article.

What is wrong with men? Stop sexualising girls and back the fuck off.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 02/10/2018 17:55

Absolutely disgusted with the school. They are basically punishing the girls for having female figures.

Datun · 02/10/2018 17:56

Hounsdown School’s headteacher Julie Turvey and deputy David Veal.

Just putting in the name of the school and the sexist, awful staff, so if anyone searches this thread comes up.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 02/10/2018 17:56

Kind of wonder whether this kind of attitude has anything to do with the ubiquity of "schoolgirl" porn

ijustwannadance · 02/10/2018 17:57

We all know it's the pervy headteacher who is "distracted"

Girls learning early that they are responsible for men's actions. Hmm

UpstartCrow · 02/10/2018 17:57

Fucknuggeting cockwombles Angry

AssassinatedBeauty · 02/10/2018 17:57

The thing is that there will be no comeback for the head/senior leadership about this. Nothing to hold them to account for their deep sexism, no disciplinary action. What can parents do to challenge this? Nothing, it seems.

ijustwannadance · 02/10/2018 18:00

Sorry. The deputy head.

OvaHere · 02/10/2018 18:05

This is appalling. The problem this teacher (and any boys) has with these girls is their bodies not the uniform.

I'm afraid the only revealing thing here is Mr Veals mindset and how he views females.

Those skirts were totally appropriate in style and length. Many girls and women post puberty cannot hid curves unless of course you put them in a big sack dress. I assume that's what he was going for with the pleated skirts.

I would go mental over this if it were my child. How dare they.

GulagsMyArse · 02/10/2018 18:09

Jesus, kill me now. Fucking tossers. I'm glad the mum stood up for them.

Is there any part of being female that's safe from the Orwellian anti woman police.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 02/10/2018 18:10

Omg. Speechless.

I don’t know where to start with that tbh. No wonder girls want to opt out of girlhood.

OvaHere · 02/10/2018 18:13

What makes this twice as sad is through no fault of their own these girls have now missed 2 weeks of school. At age 15 they will be on their GCSE pathway and missing valuable lesson time. They lose out all around.

Datun · 02/10/2018 18:17

A dreadful school teaching girls that their developing bodies are responsible for the inappropriate or possibly criminal behaviour of lascivious men.

Yes, teach them early, that men's actions are their fault. And give them a skirt down to their ankles in a vain attempt to civilise the staff.

The misogyny is absolutely breathtaking. If I were those girls or that parent I would be going nuts.

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/10/2018 18:17

Garuntee they will have the same problem with trousers too. Having a bum will automatically mean any they buy will be "too tight" and anyone who swims or does rugby and has the leg muscles that go with it will be accused of wearing skinny trousers

The fact they tried on 8 and still no joy must have proven to some extent that the problem wasn't the girls and their healthy perfectly normal bodies

Datun · 02/10/2018 18:19

I don’t know where to start with that tbh. No wonder girls want to opt out of girlhood.

Yes! And this is how it happens. The girls will be encouraged to identify as boys, and wear trousers. That way the male staff/pupils might be able to tear their eyes off them.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 02/10/2018 18:21

I agree with NothingOnTellyAgain

It's nothing to do with the clothes, it's their bodies.

They are a couple of normal looking 15 year olds in school uniform.
