Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Anyone want to share their thoughts about the biggest issue facing women and girls in Scottish sport?

The link to this just appeared on my Instagram feed.

I've replied by saying that, firstly, it's sex equality, and the biggest issue facing women in sport, is having men in their sport just because they bloody well say so.

If you want to have a say, this is the link.

I feel my small deed is done for the day, but the fact that the survey ends with 'Do you consider yourself trans' gives me no fucking hope whatsoever.

Done!

I pulled no punches.

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 02/10/2018 13:36

Thank you! Me neither.

It makes me feel better to contribute in a small way, but angrier at the same time, that I have to spend time actually thinking these thoughts and typing these phrases, over and over again.

I really fear that the SNP are a lost cause with this but I think it's important to keep trying.

littlbrowndog · 02/10/2018 13:41

Filled in
I said how important it was for girls to grow and flourish in a single sex sport space
Without fear of boys judging her on her body as she goes through puberty and maybe being mocked at school next day
More female coaches. Very important

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 02/10/2018 13:41

Agreed. I have made an agreement with myself that I'll vote SNP until we have independence, and then probably never again. It's an uncomfortable bargain to have made, tbh.

Thanks littl

TBH all the political parties seem to believe the same gender shite in Scotland so I feel politically homeless. Very disappointed in the lot of them.

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 02/10/2018 13:45

Yes, you're right. And Labour seems to be the worst of the lot, so they're never going to be an option ever again.

dragongirlx · 02/10/2018 13:46

done - got a bit annoyed at the end when they asked for my gender identity after carefully repeating in each question about keeping women only sports for women and not allowing anyone with a penis to identify in

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 02/10/2018 13:48

Exactly - I think it speaks to the fact that really, it's a done deal, isn't it? Asking about equality then being asked if you're trans, as if that's the most widespread area of inequality. When we know that girls in sport drops off in huge numbers during their teenage years, and there are actual female-centric reasons for that. This shite is, yet again, muddying the waters and taking attention and resource away from things that could improve things for women and girls.

OP posts:
MountainWitch · 02/10/2018 13:54

Did it. We have a girls football team that's doing very well locally, and this success is breeding success- the younger teams are busier than ever.

There are lots of girls at my child's martial arts class (p1-4 age range) but then in the second class for P4-7 there are hardly any.

Of course I didn't hold back on the impact of self id as well...

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/10/2018 14:10

Are poeple who arent' scottish responding?

I'm in England.

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 02/10/2018 14:13

It doesn't ask, so I guess if you want to respond, you can.

OP posts:
MountainWitch · 02/10/2018 14:14

There's nothing in the into to suggest it's only for Scottish residents, NothingOnTellyAgain, and I would say it's vital to get as much of a strong response as possible, as Scotland seems to be at the vanguard of this 'progressive' new world Sad

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 02/10/2018 14:18

Lucky us eh @MountainWitch?

The SNP's desire to be seen as the anti-Tories is really detrimental in this regard.

I'm in England, but I've filled it in.

Gender identity, my arse!

I put other and then filled in adult human who doesn't have/believe in gender identities.

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 02/10/2018 14:55

Ooh well done @ScienceIsTruth I didn't think to do that. I did force my husband to complete it though.

OP posts:
Fearandsurprise · 02/10/2018 14:57

For the gender identity question, you can select “other”and the type in your own description. I’ve put: “My sex is female. Gender identity is none, as I do not identify with with gender stereotypes”.

Keeptrudging · 02/10/2018 15:02

Damn, wish I'd thought of that! I did put that it should be sex equality rather than gender equality, given the real physical differences which affect performance.
