So - you'll never keep a woman down even when you expose her kids to danger.

Posie Parker has managed to secure a new digital billboard in Birmingham for Tory party conference.

I don't think Harrop can take this down ..... Halo

I feel that by juxtaposing it with a sex shop is bringing a lot of gendered, and indeed, pornified baggage into the simple AHF definition. It's in the sex industry's/patriarchy's interest to amalgamate female biology with feminine gendered expectations & roles in order to create the ideal "mould" for a woman to be & aspire to. Whereas feminism seeks to crowbar sex and gender apart, so that gender is an irrelevant part of womanhood. But still my nascent thoughts here & reading further.

I used to work for a poster advertising company years ago. Customers would be given the location and street name when they booked a site but not necessarily the type of business. Things may have changed since the advent of google street view etc.

hackmum · 02/10/2018 14:40

I like the idea of having a feminist poster above a sex shop. Might make a few people feel uncomfortable.

WingsofXXSteel · 02/10/2018 14:44

We can all put the poster on our social media as profile pics to do our bit, lots of billboards.

Juells · 02/10/2018 14:45

Unfair to criticise the location. When you're fighting powerful forces who are censoring every message you try to get out there...you have to go with what's possible rather than what's ideal.

It was brilliant lateral thinking, in my book. Who else would have thought of it?

I agree. It's fearless and uncompromising - look you dirty bastards, we are going to say what we want, where we want and not give a fuck if you're uncomfortable or if people tell us off for doing it in the wrong place. It'll give the TRAs something else to bleat about.

ChilliJamandAvocado · 02/10/2018 14:48

Full kudos for getting another billboard out in the wild btw, no dispute there. I'm just not (yet?) getting the "fuck you" triumphant vibes from the placement itself.

InWomensProtection · 02/10/2018 14:50

But that another message it says, is this the only place allowed free speech above a sex shop. Sex sells (no pun intended).

Well done to Posie and everyone else at the forefront.

And the scoreboard is
Posie v Harrop 2-0. 🖕🏻

InWomensProtection · 02/10/2018 14:54

And can I add that once again as always there is no resorting to using racism, playing the woe me victim, disabilities or mental health and every thing else that the ‘one who arse got handed to him on a plate by Posie’ is doing

Needmoresleep · 02/10/2018 14:55

I wonder if it will lead to a TRA boycott of the shop below?

Would it have much impact? More than the middle class women boycott of Ocado?

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 02/10/2018 14:56

Brava Posie!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 02/10/2018 15:07

It suggests another angle on the whole thing.
For me it brings to mind the fact that heterosexual men might claim they think tw are w but they won't sleep with them.

I wonder if she got it at a discount because the site is hard to sell. If so, excellent use of surplus advertising space!

Stating facts.

Challenging stereotypes.

Well done Posie.

IdaBWells · 02/10/2018 15:20

The location will be controversial and will give it more publicity, surely?

LiverpoolReSisters · 02/10/2018 15:23

Fantastic to see these appearing in other parts of the country.

SwearyG · 02/10/2018 15:26

I also think that it's the kind of location that lots of men at the Tory conference might "happen upon accidentally" Grin

I think the sex shop thing 'shop full of misogyny.. forcing men to realise what they abuse' reference to the sex shop by a PP is a bit OTT. Women use sex shops too. Loving couples use sex shops.

OK maybe not the best place for the poster to be above, but it's not a knocking shop or a strip club, it's a shop selling sex toys and sexy undies. Or is no one allowed to buy these now as it is 'misogynistic' and a sign of 'what men abuse'?

OvaHere · 02/10/2018 15:33

I like the location. It throws out something controversial, people will inevitably criticise where it is which promotes conversation and a good opportunity to talk about the definition of woman and also gendered stereotypes and expectations.

I see it as similar to how Greer gets conversations started. She is often criticised by her own side but she does get the discussions going.

DaisyTwirl · 02/10/2018 15:37

I don't give a toss where it's located tbh - just delighted to see another billboard!

Well done Posie 😍

TerfedOff · 02/10/2018 15:38

I think the location is genius.

It absolutely gives no fucks.

SittingAround1 · 02/10/2018 15:43

Thank you Posie. If you're reading you have my full support.

I think the location is good, it'll get people talking, which is what is needed for this protest.

LangCleg · 02/10/2018 15:47

Also - a few women working with limited means .....against the might of Stonewall et al.... we are doing what we can. There isn't time for massive strategy meetings etc. This stuff is moving fast and we take what's on offer.

And what Posie et al have achieved is quite staggering. If I had a forelock, I'd tug it for you sisters.

If there is to be a third billboard, I'll ensure another t-shirt purchase.

LangCleg · 02/10/2018 15:50

I think its a huge FUCK OFF we are reclaiming Woman to all the sad fucks who buy into gender, who recreate themselves as nasty pornified versions of us, who's only reference of womanhood is how fuckable they are. The kind of men who are going to be pissed off by this poster are the kinds of men who will do anything to keep their access to porn. Thats why Swerf and Terf go hand in hand. This shines a light right at it. Right at what those men think. And then stands proudly 30ft high on top of it.

Yes, yes, yes, this!

It's like the opposite of TGLWGH. It's a big, fuck off, crude swivel on that, camel breath.

I like it when women aren't afraid to be crude.

(Apologies for the Fools and Horses reference. I can't help but love it!)
