Have you seen the trailers for the new Deana starring Anna Friel - which tells the story of a 11 year old boy going public with his female identity?

Just that really - I'm wondering how it will play out.

OP posts:
newtlover · 30/09/2018 22:39

I can't imagine they'd be brave enough to present a trans critical storyline, don't think it would be a good idea for me to watch and find out
but happy to be proved wrong (I live in hope)

Budgieinaberet · 30/09/2018 22:45

There is already a thread about this, and no one is interested.
ITV have shown that bullying women is Fabulous TV see Colleen Nolan, and way Posie was set up.
Eamonn Holmes - it's fine for a male copper to intimately search a woman if he self id's as a woman.
But I don't think Eamonn meant it would be okay if it was his mum, his wife, or his daughter

ITV and BBC woke woke woke

They can all fuck right off

Melamin · 30/09/2018 22:48

I caught the trailer - it looks like a parody of itself - so much cliché.

silentcrow · 30/09/2018 22:52

It will surprise no-one who the consultant is on this. It's propaganda for Mermaids, nothing more.

Budgieinaberet · 30/09/2018 22:58

And of course the boy is running around in pink and fucking sparkly
Whereas when I was younger I would climb trees, always dress in trousers etc and no one ever said that I must be a boy
FFS

AbsintheFriends · 30/09/2018 22:58

Coincidence that it's going out just as the GRA consultation closes? Or am I being paranoid about the reach of the TRA lobby??

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/09/2018 22:59

I'm a actually a bit hopeful about this. It will at least get the concept into the mainstream a lot more, and surely we can't be the only people capable of critical thought?

OrchidInTheSun · 30/09/2018 23:10

There is nothing hopeful about it. Because it will be all entirely reversible blockers to pause puberty to give him time to think and anyone who questions will be portrayed as mean and bigoted.

It will be like the Radio 4 woman's hour drama.

Isn't it weird how both dramas pick boys who want to be girls when they are a tiny minority of young people presenting with dysphoria?

FloralBunting · 01/10/2018 00:12

I saw the trailer and thought it was very odd. The one shot of a woman talking to Anna Friel about "Don't you want them to be true to themselves", so, I'm guessing some kind of pro transing of kids counsel, only the way it was shot was really quite sinister, really close up and overbearing.

I'm not going to watch it, but from the trailer, I'm wondering if there might actually be a useful element of teachable moments in it.

PositivelyPERF · 01/10/2018 00:16

I wonder when the TRAs are going to complain that the child isn’t a REAL transchild? 😒

IdaBWells · 01/10/2018 00:17

Miranda Yardley said she expects it to be propaganda.

Budgieinaberet · 01/10/2018 00:19

Suicide tick

So fuck right off

InWomensProtection · 01/10/2018 01:51

No it can duck off to the far side of duckbills

Story line.... hard done by child with a mother facing a shun group of mothers keeping there children away, tears, heartache, lots of woe me, might include child have 1 friend probably a girl. Pink be lots of pink and glitter

Won’t include a girl who seeks company of only other girls or reasons for that. Adults being able to enter female spaces blah blah.

In end child grows happy as girl, mother is now a hero inthe community

Nope I’d rather watch benefits Britain

jgrobinson · 01/10/2018 02:29

Check out the Mermaids product placement in the trailer!
And Mermaids effectively co-wrote it.

Yeah well, remember Juliet Stevenson appearing in that drama about a woman fighting for her child who was 'made autistic' by vaccines and who was supported by Dr Wakefield?
Bet she's not highlighting that on her CV these days........
I understand TV companies are desperate to appear 'relevant' but sometimes a bit of scepticism would be handy.

Noqont · 01/10/2018 08:14

Totally propaganda for transing more young kids. Dangerous. And obviously backed by Mermaids. I don't think it should be shown at all.

AbsintheFriends · 01/10/2018 08:39

It makes me so angry that this kind of propaganda is going out at such a crucial time. In the minds of the general population, the trans issue will be associated with unhappy children who just want to be understood and accepted, not middle aged men who get their kicks wearing women's knickers.

FloralBunting · 01/10/2018 10:09

jgrobinson, that's the shot I meant, with the mermaids banner behind the woman. It's a really odd, patronising and coercive clip. A bit like an overbearing mother in law.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 01/10/2018 10:12

It will be interesting to see if it gets reviewed in the papers and if so how.
If the Times reviewer calls it out as biased and clichéd manipulative crap (should it prove to be so) we will know the tide has turned...

LittlePearl · 01/10/2018 10:36

Alison Graham in the Radio Times can be really caustic...... I hope she shreds it.

I probably ought to watch it but not sure I can bear to.

Elephantinacravat · 01/10/2018 10:46

I'm not going to watch it because I know it will be all 'authentic self, better a live daughter than a dead son bullshit.

But I am kind of interested to see how they put this across without resorting to ridiculous gender stereotypes. My guess, from seeing the trailers is that they won't, given kid seems to be pink and sparkly. When will people wake up to this horseshit?

Elephantinacravat · 01/10/2018 10:50

And I bet that the reservations that Max's parents have will be nothing to do with being gender critical and simply not wanting to pander to stereotypes, or worries that Max will become infertile and have his body ruined by drugs, and everything about being 'uneducated'. And Mermaids will be right on hand to 'educate'.

ScienceIsTruth · 01/10/2018 10:52

It will be very pro trans. Mermaids advertisements everywhere you look. Think the message will be do what your child wants or they'll end up dead.

Of course, it will all be based on stereotypes. He knew bc he likes pink and glitter and long hair, etc. He hates football, getting muddy, etc. So, of course, he's a girl!

ScienceIsTruth · 01/10/2018 10:55

Elephantinacravat, exactly that. Uneducated fools needing Mermaids to show them the right way! No valid GC points will be allowed bc viewers may then think critically themselves and realise we're correct.

eddiemairswife · 01/10/2018 10:55

I didn't realise what the subject matter was, but having watched Anna Friel in the dire Marcella I made a vow never to watch her in a drama again.
