IMPORTANT NOTICE - It is with regret that we have to announce that our meeting in Leeds cannot go ahead due to late and unreasonable cancellation. We will be emailing attendees shortly with more information. We condemn this act of silencing women. More to follow.

Jessica has apparently deleted her Twitter account. However, plenty of people have screenshotted her tweets. Read in conjunction with the tweets of a Green spokesperson, it seemed as if she was a member of the counter-protest group which sought to deny WPUK the right to use the venue.

I've not had a chance to read all the documents but it would be worth considering whether there is enough there to form the basis of a complaint to the Council's Standards and Conduct Committee:

www.leeds.gov.uk/your-council/councillors-and-democracy/code-of-conduct

Any complaint would be best coming from a Leeds resident/taxpayer.

Conveniently, the screenshots are all in Jonny Best's Medium piece:

Thank you @arranfan .
I hope a lot of other people will be contacting them too, not just on twitter or Facebook threads.

From the Code of Conduct all councillors must adhere to:

Part One - Standards of Conduct
You must have regard to, and act in accordance with, the following standards of conduct:

  1. Selflessness
You should serve only in the public interest, and should never improperly confer an advantage or disadvantage on any person, organisation or group, or any other third party.
  1. Honesty and Integrity
You should not place yourself in situations where your honesty and integrity may be questioned; you should not behave improperly and should avoid the appearance of such behaviour.
  1. Objectivity
You must make decisions based on the information before you, having had regard to any professional advice provided to you and in accordance with your view of the public interest.

You should make decisions on merit, this includes when making appointments, awarding contracts, or recommending individuals for awards or other recognition.

  1. Accountability
You are accountable to the public for your decisions and actions and the manner in which you carry out your duties. You must co-operate fully and honestly with any scrutiny appropriate to your office.

You should not undertake any action which would bring the Council, your position, or the position of Members generally, into disrepute.

  1. Openness
You must be as open as possible about your actions and those of the authority, and should be prepared to give reasons for those actions.
  1. Leadership
You must promote and maintain high standards of conduct by supporting these principles by leadership and by example, and should act in a way that secures or preserves the confidence of others.

You must have due regard to the impartiality and integrity of the authority’s statutory officers and its other employees.

howonearthdidwegethere - Thank you for linking to that useful item by Jonny Best. :)

So welcome to Leeds, women. Just remember while you’re here that the City Council is happy to pimp you on the piss-stained streets of Holbeck, but you’re not allowed to assemble and discuss your rights.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 29/09/2018 19:47

On the grapevine I hear the GP are already looking into the role Richard Firth - Leeds GP officer for "Equality, Diversity and Inclusion' has played in this.

pombear · 29/09/2018 20:04

Just popping in as a bit busy this weekend, so apologies if this has already been flagged elsewhere.

Did anyone notice how closely linked the fragrant Richard J Firth is to Aimee Challenor and team at the Green Party? His name is on some of the same groups who were asking for 'amendments' to policy at this year's Party Conference.

It's almost like both of them want to silence women in various ways.

All those little connecting dots keep getting closer together.

Richard - will we find you online elsewhere?

howonearthdidwegethere · 29/09/2018 20:13

Well well well. They both signed a proposed amendment to "update diversity targets using gender neutral language" (p.50):

www.greenparty.org.uk/resources/Conference/Spring%202018/Final%20Agenda%20Complete%20v.2.pdf

The proposal was to include this:

"women (cisgender and transgender) comprise at least 50% of candidates selected to stand for winnable seats"

NameChangedAgain18 · 29/09/2018 20:14

3. Bloke contacted the organised protest group that he was a member of, which included elected Labour Leeds City Councillors
4. Said Councillors got the event cancelled on about five minutes notice

This is an abuse of public office. Elected representatives in local government conspiring to prevent women meeting to discuss issues relating to a government consultation. I really hope WPUK make an official complaint or, better still, take legal action.

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/09/2018 20:15

Richard looks as if he'd fit right in with Aimee's furry friends.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 29/09/2018 20:38

Ha Bore!. I'm sure I read somewhere that he has some connection with the Challoners somewhere on Twitter today but can't remember where now. Too much to read and try to keep tabs on these days.

pombear · 29/09/2018 21:20

There's most definitely a link. Connecting the dots.

And for those of the 'well, they're just all in the same party, of course they're linked' surface-level arguement.

That would be fine, unless you're aware of some of the deeper concerns many posters here and elsewhere have raised over the last month or so since the Challenor issues.

Man who seeks to silence women talking about their rights in Leeds has significant links to another person who was responsible for a bit of tech that blocked thousands of women talking about their rights, who has significant links to people who have no regard to boundaries.

(And the last sentence is a huge understatement to stay within posting regulations here).

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/09/2018 21:35

Lachlan Stuart on Twitter used to be a FOI officer at the Ministry of Justice.

He's put in a FOI request to Leeds CC re the cancellation of WPUK meeting.

He says anyone is free to use it if they also wish to make a request

TheCuriousMonkey · 29/09/2018 21:38

I've just posted about this on the judicial review thread because I think this might be a good case to take to court (I'm a lawyer with relevant knowledge of judicial review, human rights etc.)

Is anyone looking into this?

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/09/2018 21:41

WPUK have said on Twitter that they are taking legal advice. They might appreciate hearing from you, if anyone can put you in touch.

deepwatersolo · 29/09/2018 22:04

I do have my theories, why Richard may be so invested in shutting up discussions of women‘s rights and safeguarding, and same goes for this NHS doctor (Harthorpe?). But what does this Jess person get out of it?

NewWomensMovement · 30/09/2018 09:33

Male approval.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 30/09/2018 12:27

One of the oddities about the cancellation is that I've seen more than one allegation that WPUK tried to book the Civic Hall months ago and were refused, so the booking was made under a 'false' name. I've also seen WPUK supporters say this is nonsense.

If anyone involved in a FOI request can make use of these screenshots, feel free. I see only two possible explanations for these tweets. Either Hetty Spoon's tweets are inaccurate, and we can all speculate why that might be, or Hetty Spoon appears to be privy to information that could only have come from an employee of Leeds City Council, in which case there's surely been a breach of the Data Protection Act. Am I right here?

alexpolistigers · 30/09/2018 14:20

I am sure WPUK will release a statement on the matter in due course. It still strikes me as unreasonable to cancel right before the meeting was due to start. Booking irregularities could have been clarified much earlier.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 30/09/2018 14:25

On case it's not been mentioned... Leeds is apparently 'welcoming' the suffragette flag to the city tomorrow in celebration of votes for women. A male councillor is goving a nice speed to the ladiea (I cant see many girlz turning up as the sight of the flag may be triggering).

Do go along and show your support.

PegasusRex · 30/09/2018 14:29

I've just started another thread on the email I sent to Judith Blake this morning.

I'm beyond angry that the council have got the brass neck to celebrate the Suffragettes after what they did on Friday. Protest anyone?

RJFirth · 30/09/2018 14:32

pombear Hello!

Anlaf · 30/09/2018 16:28

Anyone see this? The leeds city council-funded museum is currently running an exhibition called:
A women's place on " the struggles and progress of women in achieving equality and recognition."

www.leeds.gov.uk/museumsandgalleries/abbeyhouse/a-womans-place

TimeLady · 30/09/2018 17:16

Nothing on Friday's events in the Yorkshire Post

Shame on them Angry

I have no words - the cognitive dissonance is strong with those Councillors.
