That's it really. It must have been incredibly hard to stand up and do what she has done.

I don't know what the outcome will be (I've seen enough unjust results in sex assault trials through my work not to assume anything) but I hope she comes out of this knowing she did the right thing

Just been listening to her testimony. She's a courageous woman.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/09/2018 17:22

I can't face watching it. How many men are interrogating her?

LillyoftheCentralValley · 27/09/2018 17:52

The all male senators of the GOP have hired a female sex crimes prosecutor to ask her questions.

So that leaves 6 male Democrats who have been supportive and Grassley, the chairman, who is digging himself into the grave by interrupting with weirdness.

Dr Ford is brilliant.

SkullPointerException · 27/09/2018 17:52

Watching live. She's coming across really well: believable and honest. Vulnerable but not a push-over. Very relatable.

She's doing great. Not that I have much hope that it'll stop the confirmation - but she's at least making it look like the utter travesty that it is.

LillyoftheCentralValley · 27/09/2018 17:55

Clarify: All male GOP senators on the committee. The GOP has managed to elect a few women.

SinkGirl · 27/09/2018 18:17

Are people watching the C Span feed? Did anyone just hear that fucking phone call? I feel sick. Disgusting.

Also, look at fhe second linked video YouTube is suggesting - coincidence?

Dr Christine Blasey Ford I salute you
SinkGirl · 27/09/2018 18:32

It is absolutely appalling that in 2018 we are stil expecting victims to play the idealised victim role - we are all individuals, we all react differently. That woman saying she’s lying because really she’d just be glad she wasn’t raped... I just can’t even. Utterly disgusting.

Also, do American news programmes always do this thing with the partisan phone lines? It’s bloody weird.

tobee · 27/09/2018 18:38

Completely glued to this. She's such a good witness. It's clear as day. Totally human.

placemats · 27/09/2018 18:48

Hi Christine. My son is stream lining this and he salutes you. He believes you. He is 17 years old and is studying politics.

I believe you too.

Love2dance · 27/09/2018 18:51

It will be interesting to see how the naysayers deal with her evidence.

As for Trump, his query about why she didn't do something about it years ago betrays his utter misunderstanding of how people are affected by sexual assault.

Af for the refusal to subpoena Mark Judge...

it is awful that she is being put through this. I read a tweet (I think Helen Lewis - I'll double check) Yes - Helen wrote this earlier.

Imagine having to flatten your whole personality - all its complexity, your laughter, your irritation, your less-than-perfect-recall - into our rigid cultural image of Woman Who We Are Prepared To Believe Was Raped.

So true and so horrific.

DickensianHysteric · 27/09/2018 19:04

She's very brave to testify with the world watching.
I believe her.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 27/09/2018 19:10

I'm not watching because I'm rushed off my feet atm but I salute her too. How brave she is. Just the fact that she is standing up and doing this must be making young women a little tiny bit safer all over the world

WasabiSpring · 27/09/2018 19:21

This has been incredibly difficult to watch, it has been like she's on trial. I applaud her bravery.

ThefusilliJerry · 27/09/2018 19:23

It’s sickening.
Time for the dough faced piece of shit to be the defendant, not the judge.

ToeToToe · 27/09/2018 19:23

Yes indeed. She is a brave woman.

TheFaerieQueene · 27/09/2018 19:34

A very brave woman.

SinkGirl · 27/09/2018 19:37

The call-in is making me feel violent. I cannot believe the utter utter bullshit coming out of these people’s mouths. How dare they?

How is there not an FBI investigation?

LillyoftheCentralValley · 27/09/2018 19:42

CSPN isn't a regular news station. It's a feed paid for by cable news networks to cover Congress and speeches just by broadcasting.

CSPN callers, well, they have a cult following for ticking people off.

filzma · 27/09/2018 19:50

Republicans trying to manipulate perception by hiring a woman to ask their questions, all in a bid to avoid optics of being old white misogynists.

The irony is, the lady is a 'sex crimes prosecutor'. Her questions should be directed to Kavanaugh.

LillyoftheCentralValley · 27/09/2018 19:56

And there is no FBI investigation because Trump. Speculation about why he's insisting on Kavanaugh is K's opinion that Trump can pardon himself (not really but close).

Trump's base are the kind of people calling CSPN on the Republican line. Most people know them from the Internet, but these types have been trolling CSPN a lot longer.....

SinkGirl · 27/09/2018 19:58

What kind of people turn up to protest a hearing in favour of a man accused of sexual assault by multiple women? What the actual fuck is that about?

I can’t believe how awful the news format is there, separate phonelines per party, interrogating callers on their own sexual assault, not putting callers right on statute of limitations when they say she would be filling charges if it were true, etc.

SinkGirl · 27/09/2018 20:01

Thanks Lilly that’s really useful - I’ve heard of C-SPN but wasn’t sure what it was. The call in has blown my mind, I’ve never heard anything like it in my life.

Also, the prosecutor standing in for the republicans - did she have a point? I’m not sure what on earth she was trying to get at.

Will she be questioning Kavanaugh too? Could be interesting, given I’m sure she’s supposed to go easy on him, or will the r-dudes be doing it themselves?

LillyoftheCentralValley · 27/09/2018 20:10

You just kind of have to put the calls into perspective. Originally the game was to say the F word on live teevee....

Watching CSPN is very useful at times. News doesn't always cover things, or sometimes CSPN is where you can watch w/out talking heads popping in every 5 seconds.

They hired the "female assistant" as a beard to ask Dr Ford questions because she's a girl and they're not. I think they will extend the fig leaf to Brett, but at least it spares us listening to Ted Cruz.

I just wish they'd let Kamala Harris take him apart. Best prosecutor in the place.

WorldWideWomble · 27/09/2018 20:17

People are saying she's faked her fucking polygraph by doping.

This is what she is dealing with.
