That's it really.
Add a post if you agree.

Agreed.
Just adding my agreement, even if Posie has decided not to return.

SilverBirchTree that sounds like a broad accusation. Cite your examples. Otherwise your comment could easily be regarded as silencing a woman you do not agree with.

opla · 27/09/2018 10:05

@lynmilne65 the thread is literally asking for them. If you don't like it, hide it Confused

Being called upon to ban Maryz should have been a wake-up call for the admins. What's next? AnyFucker? Other longstanding mumsnetters, so that some woke youngsters who aren't even the audience here can feel smug about silencing people?

sportsdirectmug · 27/09/2018 10:06

Agreed

LilyMumsnet · 27/09/2018 10:11

Hi all

As KateMumsnet said recently on this thread, we don't want to comment on individuals but the decision to remove someone's ability to post is really not taken lightly and is definitely not done on the basis of people's actions on one or two threads.

Our rules around civil debate are there to enable the kind of discussions which many other sites no longer allow. When people repeatedly say that they believe we are acting in bad faith or are being abusive, it's exhausting and pretty toxic for the people who work here. When it happens over and over again, it seems a bit pointless to continue that spiral and we'd rather call it a day.

Sorry - we know this isn't what you want to hear but we hope it explains where we're coming from a bit more clearly.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Blessingsdragon1 · 27/09/2018 10:11

Agreed - there is a sea change and Ocado have got caught in the rip tide - Mumsnet need to understand the depth of feeling going on here.

Agreed

IStandWithPosie · 27/09/2018 10:22

How unsurprisingly disappointing. Yet again.

LadyLauraOver · 27/09/2018 10:24

Well said JoanSummers

LadyLauraOver · 27/09/2018 10:27

Very disappointing decision. This place was better with Posie

Hazardswan · 27/09/2018 10:30

@LilyMumsnet Star thank you for the work you all do. I think mumsnet is on a tightrope and your doing the best you can to keep things balanced and all the plates spinning. Flowers

incogKNEEto · 27/09/2018 10:44

Agreed.

AnyFucker · 27/09/2018 10:45

A decision made at a point in time, under certain circumstances, can be reviewed.

I believe it should be reviewed to give a clear message that women can not and will not be silenced

I don't think Posie will come back. She has bigger fish to fry now. Overturning her banishment would give a very clear message though. Protecting women's rights should be at the forefront of a female dominated site and this one has certainly been an advocate for that on many occasions in the past. On this occasion, you have got it wrong, IMO.

How unsurprisingly disappointing. Yet again.

Agreed. On the other hand, Posie is doing a fantastic job without the support or help of MN.

JoanSummers · 27/09/2018 10:55

I expect it is pretty exhausting having to keep your balance up there on that perch MNHQ. All those pesky women continuing to raise their voices when you've told them how difficult it is for you when they do so. They keep banging on about boundaries and safety and rights, as if that is all that matters - don't they realise you have other interests? It must be enormously tiring having to keep slapping those nagging women back down again, like a huge neverending game of whack a mum. You ban one feminist, another ten pop up in her place! Pesky, pesky non males.

There is an end in sight though, MNHQ. You just can't physically stay on that perch forever. You can choose at any point to step down off of it yourself, a little bit of courage and a lot of liberation. Or you can hold on as long as possible, and then come down the hard way.

zonkin · 27/09/2018 10:59

I don't post much but she expressed everything I think on Sky. And a lot more eloquently than I could have done.

I've just bought the t-shirt.

Bring her back.

ToeToToe · 27/09/2018 11:01

Agreed.

Sad to see MNHQ failing to stand with women on this point.

Posie & maryz belong on here.

Mind you, posie doesn't need Mumsnet anymore Grin or Twitter. She's a fucking LEGEND Grin

I'm very grateful to Mumsnet for giving us this space to talk, but I don't think a lot of the mods are on women's side - a few of Emma Healey's friends are still about, maybe...?

Let's face it, Mumsnet HQ would probably have banned Emmeline Pankhurst too...

dianebrewster · 27/09/2018 11:03

Agreed. She is an eloquent voice in this debate. I don't always agree with all that she says but that's not a problem. Disagreement is part of having an adult human political voice.

Datun · 27/09/2018 11:04

@LilyMumsnet

This issue is one of most emotive issues I've ever known. It polarises opinion, and it breeds frustration like no other.

The control that HQ have to wield is frustrating for everybody. That doesn't mean people don't understand why you do it, it does mean that people react to it.

The mods were the target of Posie's frustration at being silenced. It's not personal. None of this is personal.

It's all too easy to ignore the fact that there is a real person behind the screen.

But that goes both ways.

If your issue is truly that Posie was being unkind and unfair to mods, not that you are being put under pressure, then you could just make it a last chance motel.

Everyone understands that.

There's not a woman here who hasn't had to sit on their hands, and weigh up being able to say what they want, against being banned.

It's an incredibly shocking choice to have to make.

You can silence women. That's a huge responsibility.

Jennifer James and Venice Allan were interviewed by the Labour Party to see whether the Labour Party could squeeze the smallest, most nominal bit of offence in what they said, in order to shut them up.

Venice Allan and Linda Bellos were interviewed by the police. To shut them up.

They are both now being pursued privately, to shut them up.

Posie, interviewed by the police, to shut her up.

Ann Sinnott, Anne Ruzylo, Rosa Friedman, Kathleen Stock, Megan Murphy, Jean Hackett. The list is endless.

These women do not post anything other than the truth. It's not criminal, it's not unprincipled, it's not offensive to normal men and women.

You have the power to silence women.

Please reconsider.

opla · 27/09/2018 11:14

I also refuse to believe the insinuation that she was abusive to moderators - it's not her style and she would know the cost of that.

Blunt maybe but not vile.

visitorthedog · 27/09/2018 11:16

She’s magnificent.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 27/09/2018 11:19

Posted my agreement upthread but am chuckling at the way people's autocorrect keeps changing Posie to Poise, very apt.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 27/09/2018 11:22

I'm not sure it's the MNetters that are doing the banging on that's exhausting. Wasn't it the HoCommons main office that said they'd never encountered pestering and behaviour like it when the TRAs wanted them to shut down GC women? Thing is, no one knows better than the women here, if you give in to a tantrum because it's so tedious and exhausting that you're now wanting to chew your own arm off, you're just proving the behaviour works. MNHQ have not held the ground I wish they had, but on the other hand they've held a hell of a lot more ground than many (most) other agencies when faced with the rattle chucking drama.

Crankywitch · 27/09/2018 11:24
