But we knew that anyway!

Yay!!! A win!!

FloralBunting · 26/09/2018 01:23

"Instead of asking how best they can protect transwomen..." ... they are complying with the law and ensuring women have the protection they need. Sarah Brown really doesn't like that. AWAs really do tend to illustrate their motives with every portentous pronouncement, don't they?

When it was pointed out that the wording of our Comprehensive Equalities and Diversity Policy was not entirely consistent with the Equality Act, we immediately sought legal advice and have, as a result, made amendments to the policy. These amendments reflect specialist legal advice to ensure that the wording of the policy is consistent with the 2010 Equality Act."

Brilliant! Well done again Cambridge!

miri1985 · 26/09/2018 02:11

Ann Sinnot is a credit to politics.

Hope that serious questions are being asked about how this was allowed at the time and how it went unnoticed for 8 years.

I'm kind of baffled by a sitting Councillor saying essentially that the Council shouldn't be "playing it safe" aka applying the law when it comes to the Equality Act.

Reading between the lines, the speed of this makes me wonder if someone has realised they’ve been deliberately mislead.

Well done Ann

Sarah needs to iron that T shirt. All women should know how to use an iron Wink

boldlygoingsomewhere · 26/09/2018 06:37

Well done, Ann!

I hope there are consequences for those responsible for the wording which wasn’t consistent.

Kyanite · 26/09/2018 06:45

How can anyone complain about the Council complying with the law?! I've peaked again...

QueenYnci · 26/09/2018 06:55

You mean you're not allowed to just change the wording of legislation when you don't like it? What is the world coming to?

Fearandsurprise · 26/09/2018 07:02

From the article:
“Should we carry our passports if we want to use the Lion Yard Loos”

No need. The entitled attitude and the obvious physique of a male-born person are all you need to show which of the loos you should actually be using.

NotANotMan · 26/09/2018 07:03

And actually - yes. If you're a male person who wants to use women's facilities the very least you can do is officially change your paperwork and carry evidence that you have a GRC. Otherwise you're just a man encroaching on women's spaces.

MIdgebabe · 26/09/2018 07:11

Wow! As a side issue, at least 2 of the people quoted appear to be transgender councillors. I here lots of talk ofndiscrimination agaiant transpeople yet if this council is representative of others it would appear that transgender people already represented atbproprtionate levels in politics?

IAmLurkacus · 26/09/2018 07:16

Well done Ann Sinnott Smile

LizzieSiddal · 26/09/2018 07:19

Wow, they rowed back pretty quickly when presented with facts. Brilliant.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 26/09/2018 07:20

Thank Godess for that - this is local to me.

Funny how Cambs Council’s legal advice is different from some other organisations legal advice, no...?

KatVonGulag · 26/09/2018 07:22

Great news!
Stop believing the fruitloops and start following the god damn equalities act.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 26/09/2018 07:23

Good.

CircumzenithalArc · 26/09/2018 07:23

She still left her job over this so it's not a win exactly. Women still suffering for supporting women's rights. I don't see Sarah Brown losing anything.

LadyBrianAdultHumanFemale · 26/09/2018 07:25

Well done Ann.

Agreed - why is this such an outrageous suggestion? I'm sure the overwhelming majority of people working in a school present no threat to young people but you don't hear them complaining when they're asked for a DBS certificate.

And good for Ann - I'm glad she didn't stand down for nothing.

BeUpStanding · 26/09/2018 07:30

Yes! Well done Anne - that's a great result

FGS Crackpots, dont tell TRAs that!
its bad enough having to watch Jane Fae's 'performative knitting' on TV shows, they might get ideas

Great news about the council reinstating the correct wording and usage of the act though, and a salute to Ann - a woman of principle, vindicated.

Didactylos · 26/09/2018 07:34

Anne!
