Has anyone just seen the trailer? Hmm
Mermaids heavily featured with the line ‘I’d rather have a live Daughter than a dead son’ .

For fucking fucks sake .

The action man was so much better equipped than barbie, or indeed action woman (who was crap).

Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood has a fabulous array of what were ostensibly 'boys' toys' and I'd have adored them as a child (and now, tbh).

HelenaDove · 11/10/2018 23:35

ive always been a typical girl And very happy with that. I had a Sindy.

I can just imagine some DC taking Action Man scuba diving down the toilet Grin

boatyardblues · 11/10/2018 23:46

We had an Action Man to complement Sindy. Ken was too prissy and a bit too small to do Sindy justice. Me and sis also gave Sindy a lovely cropped ‘do’ because we weren’t girly girls. We also had boxes of old skool Lego, Meccano and Scaletrix and koved climbing trees and making mud pies in the garden. Would probably be ushered off to the Tavistock if we’d been born in the last decade....

I'm actually looking forward to this show. I think it will peak trans millions of people! Smile

HelenaDove · 12/10/2018 15:31

Ive read the Radio Times article/interviews. Much less biased.

FekkoTheLawyer · 12/10/2018 17:32

I saw a photo journey of a f2m recently. The upper body surgery just made them look like they had boobs of a very young girl (with large scars).

They looked handsome as a man though and happy (in the photos and yes, sure they get some crap for being transsexual) - but there were a few shots of syringes, and I realised that that's it isn't it? It's jabs for life or the body just returns to its original state (as much as it can). There is no magic wand or potion or operation that flicks the switch. I wish people would read more than the 280 character slogans and meme and see what reality it like. The naivety and childishness of some of the arguments is horrifying.

Howyoualldoworkme · 12/10/2018 17:43

Just the trailer has peak transed my DH!

Hornets · 13/10/2018 13:23

Apologies if this has already been mentioned (I haven't yet read the whole thread) but as this is ITV, I wonder which companies will be advertising in the breaks?

borntobequiet · 13/10/2018 13:28

My daughter had a Climbing Sindy who was an all-rounder and did indeed go scuba diving in the loo. DD had seen a TV programme on cave diving.

There's a good thread which details many of the issues with Mermaids in response to a very unquestioning and supportive episode of Victoria Derbyshire Show earlier this summer:

The show has now been criticised by the NHS's gender identity clinic:

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/teen-transgender-drama-butterfly-inflates-suicide-risk-9ng3z22mv

The NHS’s only gender clinic for children and teenagers has criticised a new ITV drama that shows a transgender 11-year-old trying to commit suicide as “not helpful,” saying it “would be very unusual” for a child of that age to attempt suicide.

borntobequiet · 14/10/2018 09:54

Helena DD was bought Climbing Sindy as a present by my gay brother and his partner. So a nice family story of inclusivity (Catholic family) and ignoring stereotypes, in the early 1990s.

AspieAndProud · 14/10/2018 10:14

Pretty sure neither Action Man nor Barbie are ‘equipped’.

Fucking hell, ITV are actually repeating this tonight, and the promotional image used on the ITV Hub page for it today shows the little boy touching hands with a woman dressed up as a mermaid.
Anotheruser02 · 14/09/2021 19:45

I'm surprised they're not quietly backing away from the fact it was ever made. Wasn't it full of some 'wrong body' shit?

IvyTwines2 · 14/09/2021 22:35

I'm amazed ITV would want to remind people they've been part of this push, when so many other places backing away.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/09/2021 23:17

There's a weird doubling down going on at the moment. A refusal to accept that the house of cards is listing.

FemaleAndLearning · 14/09/2021 23:22

I remember watching this before I was fully enlightened and thought the mum was a nutter. My other thought was what 8 year old girl goes to school in full make up?
I probably had other thoughts but it was a while ago.

Rhannion · 15/09/2021 14:05

I saw the start of that last night, ridiculous to be repeating this.
