Girlguiding expels leaders who question trans policy

Well, I guess I knew this was coming. Dissent will not be tolerated. Forget the safety concerns, the privacy and dignity issues, the managing out of gender non-confirming girls. What's really serious is one leader referring to another leader "a nightmare" in a private conversation.

Girl Guide leaders expelled for questioning trans policy

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/34139ed0-bea5-11e8-8d21-451ec1df6b83

Two Guide leaders who had raised safeguarding concerns about the organisation’s transgender policy have been expelled and had their units closed down.

Dozens of children face disappointment because there is no one else to run the units. The expelled leaders say they will take legal action against Girlguiding if their removals are upheld.

Helen Watts, one of 12 leaders who signed a letter to The Sunday Times in April asking for a review of the policy, was told on Friday that her membership was being terminated after more than 15 years with the Guides.

At least one other signatory, based in the northwest of England, was expelled. Documents seen by The Sunday Times suggest disciplinary investigations have been launched against at least five Guide leaders.

I'm so sorry, Agnes. And I'm really bloody angry too.

I was a Brownie. Didn't think much about it - it was what you did back then, if you were a girl. Couldn't join Scouts anyway.

Then when I got older, I thought if I have DDs, I'll encourage them to join Scouts - that's not a single sex organisation, it'll be better for them, more equal.

Then when I had DC, I realised that actually the world isn't equal in that way. I found out more about GG when my friend who works in women and girls activism said she was signing her DD up - it made me think "huh, really?" Then I decided I really loved the idea of GG, of a properly female space challenging stereotypes.

I can't believe it.

I have DDs. They are in GG. They love it so much, it is run by great people on the ground who care. This fucking leadership censorship is BULLSHIT.

R4 is on.

redshoeblueshoe · 24/09/2018 13:23

Wow I hope this idiot doesn't have daughters

Gentlygently · 24/09/2018 13:25

Well done! Just heard you. Very clear and they gave you a good amount of air time.

AgnesBadenPowell · 24/09/2018 13:25

What's happening? I can't listen to it where I am now...

Oh god, Susie Green.

Gentlygently · 24/09/2018 13:26

Aargh. ‘Trans girls are girls’ anyone listening to that would think they are natal born girls.

NoSquirrels · 24/09/2018 13:26

Susie Green: Trans girls are girls.

And repeat.

Gentlygently · 24/09/2018 13:26

Excellent interviewer used ‘male born bodies’

redshoeblueshoe · 24/09/2018 13:27

Oh can't he say penis. What about the adult trans person.
Suicide tick

Zeugma · 24/09/2018 13:27

Utter bilge and deflecting.

littlbrowndog · 24/09/2018 13:28

You were great Agnes

Very calm and got to the heart of it

NoSquirrels · 24/09/2018 13:28

SG says "safeguarding" is about "whoever is in charge" being aware of the issues.

Nothing about parents choices.

Despite how she exercised her own parental choices for her child.

redshoeblueshoe · 24/09/2018 13:28

Well done Agnes

Gentlygently · 24/09/2018 13:28

Hmmm. Could have been worse. If people heard both bits they will have definitely understood your points, Agnes.

R0wantrees · 24/09/2018 13:28

Really eloquent interview Agnes

Susie Green now interviewed.

'Trans kids are most vulnerable, referencing suicide, stats etc.'

'Should centre trans kids'

Zeugma · 24/09/2018 13:29

Agnes was great. Susie Green - not. What a surprise.

NoSquirrels · 24/09/2018 13:29

OMFG. SG just said that no one's rights should trump another persons... it's gaslighting on a grand scale.

littlbrowndog · 24/09/2018 13:29

I never listened to the green person

Would have been the old blah blah blah

AornisHades · 24/09/2018 13:29

It's a babble of double speak. We can't put the rights of a cultural group over another group but we can put a feelz group over their rights
Sisie obviously not Agnes!

OrchidInTheSun · 24/09/2018 13:30

You were great Agnes! You were reasonable and made it very clear that you were simply concerned about the wellbeing and safety of girls.

Susie Green on the other hand came across as absurd. She basically ended by saying that if girls have a problem sharing space with boys who identify as girls than tough shit.

NoSquirrels · 24/09/2018 13:31

You were great, Agnes. Thank you again for speaking out despite the cost.

R0wantrees · 24/09/2018 13:33

Susie Green in reference to both concerns about protected characteristics of sex and religion says can't prioritise conflicting rights, all have to be considered.

But as she is advocating that the child questioning their gender identity as a 'transgirl' should be allowed to have full access to the girl guides then surely she is advocating that interpretation of 'gender reassignment' as characteristic applying to under 18 male born child trumps both sex and religion???

arranfan · 24/09/2018 13:33

What's the point at which the BBC interviewer should have follow-up questions that challenge that repeated assertion about suicide statistics? Those numbers are based on a small, self-selected survey which a lot of missing additional data.

It's absurd that media outlets repeat the figures without providing a challenge/context.

sashh · 24/09/2018 13:35

SG just said that no one's rights should trump another persons

We do it all the time, we take away rights from prisoners.

We quarantine people who have a contagious disease.

We section people who have severe mental illness, sometimes people are in institutions for decades.

littlbrowndog · 24/09/2018 13:35

I think that maybe important to say Agnes that the rise in girls self harming and feeling unhappy to try to counter the claims of suicide and anxiety in trans children claim. Cos the first is provable

I dunno though jus5 a thought

But maybe not relevant

Rambling now
