Girlguiding expels leaders who question trans policy

Well, I guess I knew this was coming. Dissent will not be tolerated. Forget the safety concerns, the privacy and dignity issues, the managing out of gender non-confirming girls. What's really serious is one leader referring to another leader "a nightmare" in a private conversation.

Girl Guide leaders expelled for questioning trans policy

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/34139ed0-bea5-11e8-8d21-451ec1df6b83

Two Guide leaders who had raised safeguarding concerns about the organisation’s transgender policy have been expelled and had their units closed down.

Dozens of children face disappointment because there is no one else to run the units. The expelled leaders say they will take legal action against Girlguiding if their removals are upheld.

Helen Watts, one of 12 leaders who signed a letter to The Sunday Times in April asking for a review of the policy, was told on Friday that her membership was being terminated after more than 15 years with the Guides.

At least one other signatory, based in the northwest of England, was expelled. Documents seen by The Sunday Times suggest disciplinary investigations have been launched against at least five Guide leaders.

Read the threads about Aimee Challenor, who must have had a true lay dreadful and confusing childhood.

I am not saying that AC, aged 16, would necessarily be a threat to Girl Guides. But I am saying that if AC were a threat because of her damaging upbringing, and her interesting interests, that threat is greater as a male bodied, physically stronger person.

And her sex offending, adult baby father would clearly be a threat.

What I don’t get, is why the trans girl is assumed to take priority over other girls who may not want to share their space with penises. Why can’t could the trans girl not join the scouts?

Ohh, is it because AC has been consulted on policy, but not any 20 year old girls. Because their views don’t matter.

FloralBunting · 23/09/2018 22:51

Hahahaha, showing your hand there oh goady newcomer. All that guff in your post about 'trans girls' and you still can't hide the contempt for 'poor oppressed women who just get more opportunities now'. You are not pro-trans. You are Anti-woman. It drops off you like stink.

Datun · 23/09/2018 22:55

FuckTERFS. Try typing that again a bit more coherently.

Maybe when you've got both hands free?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 23/09/2018 22:57

Oh come on, show some compassion. Typing must be hard with hoofs.

Ereshkigal · 23/09/2018 23:01

You are not pro-trans. You are Anti-woman. It drops off you like stink.

YY. That's such a typical MRA talking point.

BingBongSong · 23/09/2018 23:07

I've just subscribed to The Times so that I can share this article, but I'm struggling a bit with how to get the share token link - help, please?

Agnes, I'm looking forward to hearing you speak on Tuesday. Flowers for you.

Good for you Agnes . I'll be tuning in tomorrow. I need to hear a voice of sanity and reason amongst all this double speak.

ShotsFired · 24/09/2018 00:20

Well silly old FuckTERFS really wasted quite an epic username there, didn't they.

Shame.

FloralBunting · 24/09/2018 00:31

Yes, the replies and the username just hanging there like an ugly toad should tell everyone what they need to know, really.

MindTheMinotaur · 24/09/2018 00:40

FFS.

I appreciate everything that's been done by decent, principled leaders on behalf of girls.

DD is not going to join.

DuckingGoodPJs · 24/09/2018 01:38

Well said Knicknack
And good round-up pom (Datun had a similarly good one in another thread)

The last month or so has been a string of 'stunning and brave' gifts from the TRAs. Could not have come at a better time imo. Thanks guys! Smile

Charliethefeminist · 24/09/2018 06:47

I'm not grateful. I don't think it's a useful peak transing of more people. This was a public show of power, and of our powerlessness. They know how bad it looks, its deliberate. It's parading round with the good guy's head on a pole, to show that there is fuck all anyone can do about it.

They underestimate women, of course: fortunately we can guarantee that chauvinist arrogance and stupidity will be their downfall.

ginandbearit · 24/09/2018 07:23

Radio 5 talking about this in a minute

SunsetBeetch · 24/09/2018 07:32

Tweet from TELI

"We were invited on @VictoriaLIVE tomorrow to discuss trans inclusion in @Girlguiding the original transphobic guests have now withdrawn worried about too much challenge. Ironic that anti trans campaigners constantly ask for debate yet don't like credible speakers. #VictoriaLive "

Charliethefeminist · 24/09/2018 07:41

Yeah right

Charliethefeminist · 24/09/2018 07:44

I don't believe that in a million years. And Woman's Hour and Newsnight both refused to cover this story, when coverage might have made a difference, earlier in the year. Why? Because no transactivist proponents would dare to engage with the fearsome Nicola Williams. So frankly, teli is talking absolute bullshit.

4/9/18 'Metro Scout leader Clinton Vlahos spared jail after telling girl, 14, he wanted to have a baby with her'
(extract)
"A scout leader has been spared jail after he told what he thought was a 14-year-old girl that he wanted to have a baby with her. Clinton Vlahos, 25, was caught by vigilante paedophile hunters who created a profile using the name Maddie. He also asked her for ‘sexy photographs’ of herself and asked her to be his girlfriend so they could engage in sexual acts. (continues)

‘There is no evidence to suggest that offences have taken place within the Scout movement. Following his conviction, we can confirm Vlahos will never be allowed to volunteer with us again. ‘The Scout Association carries out stringent vetting of all adults who work with young people and requires them to work to a strict code of practice outlined in the ‘Young People First’ code of practice.’

arranfan · 24/09/2018 09:26

Is anyone else bothered as to why/how an organisation like TELI with high-profile legal members can get away with automatically labelling all those who appear on programmes or share discussions with them as "transphobic"?

BettyDuMonde · 24/09/2018 09:34

I’m going to make a wild guess and say that I don’t think the Teli Twitter account is operated by any actual legal professionals.

Assume it’s that Hewitt person. Makes the whole thing look very unprofessional (as does a single yearly conference two years ago. They should be on their third by now).

Ledehe · 24/09/2018 09:38

Oh Agnes I'm so sorry. When I read the article I had wondered whether it was you.

Your poor unit. We are all behind you.

Charliethefeminist · 24/09/2018 09:46

People are terrified or groomed

drspouse · 24/09/2018 09:47

It's parading round with the good guy's head on a pole, to show that there is fuck all anyone can do about it.

I do kind of feel like this.
Nothing at all on this on the leaders' FB pages yesterday - even if anyone tried to post anything they are heavily moderated and would not let it go up. A very dear and sympathetic friend (I suspect secretly GC) is a mod on one page and is really angry about this but she'd be straight out as a mod if she put it up.
I can see how many GC leaders there are on here too but none of them is able to speak up especially after what happened to Agnes.

2rebecca · 24/09/2018 09:52

I thought Nic and JHB covered this well on Talk Radio just before 8.30 this morning

Charliethefeminist · 24/09/2018 09:56

Jess Bradley was a founder of UK Teli. And that's all I have to say about that.
