These days it's odd bit to see a feminine face (I think they look like a woman) on a person who looks like they are presenting as a man without the pronoun 'he' attached. Well the other way around anyway.

Are the photos half way down the Daily Mail Story the person we are meaning?
This person looks like a male bodied person, that is not a result of hormone treatment.
So I am not understanding why people are saying transman?

I think it looks like a woman dressing and standing like a man. A man trying to pass as a woman is more likely to be in rather baggy neutral clothes or a lacy fuscia frock and blonde wig.

Everything I've read says female. Transgender identity but not certain whether male or female pronouns. Perhaps non binary?

Also think a woman from reading the news reports. Obviously haven't passed the magical transgender line where they must be referred to as their identifed gender.

One of the main takeaways from this story is how the ideology is destroying language and the ability to report clear facts and also how we can no longer assume that facts are factual.

It is removing our ability to rely upon our memory of events or experience. It might make us wary of transmitting stories or knowledge. We have neither the language nor confidence that facts are objective, and factual, that would allow us to comment on stories.

Years ago, I saw a passing reference to a people who were so apprehensive of the loss of face involved in making an error (even in good faith) that it made them unwilling even to attempt to give directions to others. It reduced social cohesiveness and interaction because it, inevitably, reduced social cooperation. (I'm so annoyed with myself that I failed to make a note when I saw this.)

The moment my DH read this he said "not actually a woman!" and then went on a rant about deceptive reporting. I suspect he's not alone there - most people really don't realize that major news organizations have re-written their guidelines to require their staff to use the "preferred" pronouns in cases like this, which is why you so often see photos (since that's the only way they're allowed to clue the reader in).

I would take from all this that Mosely is male. News outlets would rather be inaccurate than have the TRAs descending upon them for misgendering.

And so help me, my first thought on hearing the story was 'was it really a woman?'

And I'm still waiting to hear if the six-foot knife wielder in Barnsley was actually a woman too.

Well, you can be a woman on Thursday, a man on Friday, non-binary at the weekend, then a furry for the rest of the week. It's 2018, you know.

Posted on the other thread. Two possible scenarios here.

1. Moseley was biologically female and was taking testosterone. In this case, I think given this is the US and Moseley was not earning a lot of money I would say it's a not unreasonable surmise that the hormones were purchased over the internet, without medical supervision.

1. Moseley was biologically male and possibly taking oestrogen. We know from that recent Australian case that taking hormones that aren't the ones your body naturally produces can make everything go haywire.

Either way, I very strongly suspect (as I said on the other thread) that Moseley possibly came out as trans because being a gender nonconforming, possibly gay person was just totally unacceptable to the family. Being gay is perceived by many deeply religious, socially conservative people as a moral choice and a bad one. Being trans can be spun as a medical problem which doctors can fix. 'Yes, so sad, s/he was born in the wrong body - but the doctor said that taking hormones and having surgery will help them become their authentic self in no time'.

American gun control laws are a joke. You have to wonder what it would take to get permanently banned from gun ownership - maybe if you walked up to a judge, handed them your ID and a signed declaration that you intended to commit a massacre? Even then the NRA would probably fight it.

It's for protection don't you know? Although very very few 'bad dudes' are taken down by an upstanding member of the public with their handy gun.

To be fair, there was a mass shooting at Google earlier this year which I think was carried out by a woman.

I think that was a transwoman

I wondered about that, but I've seen nothing to confirm that. She was an animal rights activist, vegan, obsessive about exercise, fixated on her YouTube channel, nursing a grievance against YouTube/Google for demonetising it (if that's the word).

I think so too. So why are they referring to her as a "she" if she identifies as transgender? We all know this would never happen if the person was a trans woman, even if they were clearly male.
