Transman gives birth - wants to be father/parent

Ok so this trans stuff is really starting to piss me off. Men competing in female sports, the whole toilet/changing room debate and most recently the selfish ones who say they need a mastectomy more than cancer patients (who happen to be women).

This one though, this one - somehow it's made me think about mothers and why it matters - why can't this transman be registered legally as a mother and call himself a father or parent in all other ways?

I mean he was born a woman!

Birth certificate is necessary to prove there is actually a child - fraudulent claim prevention.

And to prove age. My late MIL was - for no particular reason - registered two months late. With the result that she couldn't get her pension until two months after her actual birthday. There were some official docs which needed her later 'official' date rather than her real one- it was a real PITA for DH when he had POA and was dealing with her affairs.

Just register the baby fgs - it's their certificate, not the parents'.

AspieAndProud · 19/09/2018 19:48

Irresistible forces and immovable objects come to mind.

BrownPaperTeddy · 19/09/2018 19:48

I'm really not trying to derail, just some of the comments made me think - what happens when a child is abandoned at birth and no parents are traced? Do they have a birth certificate and if so what is recorded on it?

BrownPaperTeddy · 19/09/2018 19:50

@ErrolTheDragon

This happened to my nan's sister and was apparently quite common because you had to pay to register the birth. If the family couldn't afford to register at the time they just lied about when the baby was born.

pallisers · 19/09/2018 19:57

apparently there is an abandoned baby register.

BrownPaperTeddy · 19/09/2018 20:00

So do they not get a birth certificate at all?

That's just very sad.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/09/2018 20:02

The same thought re abandoned babies occurred to me too, Teddy. The baby will have a birth certificate signed by a social worker, with a medically estimated birth date. I assume it records the place they were found as the birthplace.

There's a case here for example www.theguardian.com/society/2007/oct/13/family.family7

Numbkinnuts · 19/09/2018 20:17

A man cannot give birth

A woman is biological designed to give birth

How can you want to identify as a man but still want to give birth as only a woman can.

FFS !

AsAProfessionalFekko · 19/09/2018 20:19

If the person who gave birth here is so adamant rhat they are a man... Then why did they choose to get pregnant and give birth - surely a very female thing?

BrownPaperTeddy · 19/09/2018 20:20

Nothing to do with the thread but that article is heartbreaking. I hope his mum is ok too.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 19/09/2018 20:21

Yep- it’s their biology over ruling them. Wink

ChattyLion · 19/09/2018 20:27

Errol that poor baby Andrew’s story has made me cry. Christ, what a start in life. Sad

OlennasWimple · 19/09/2018 20:38

I'm so upset for this poor baby who is being used in this way.

Just register the birth already, then claim CB

(I'm completely perplexed by how they got a passport without a BC though)

Numbkinnuts · 19/09/2018 20:43

Agree. How did they get a passports with a BC ?

KirbyTheFirst · 19/09/2018 20:44

This kid is going to be so annoyed when he gets to the “mother’s maiden name” security question

KirbyTheFirst · 19/09/2018 20:45

The DM referenced the passport earlier. That British citizenship had been proved or words to that effect.

Guessing the parent took on passport at the same time hoping for a row with them too but they found a way around it!

Batteriesallgone · 19/09/2018 20:50

Of course part of the reason ‘mother’ is such a loaded term is because patriarchy. Which you can’t identify out of, unfortunately. And considering gender identity concepts are a pillar of the patriarchy this feels like a snake eating its tail.

There is no winner here. You cannot identify out of patriarchy.

Coming up next... cismother

MaisyPops · 19/09/2018 21:01

Men cannot give birth.
Fact.

What I can't get my head around is the cognitive dissonance of 'I am a man and am in no way female at all... but I want a female reproductive system, carry a baby for 9 months, give birth etc' which to me are very much womanly things.
I could understand a trans man feeling dysphoria and hatred to their female anatomy and seeking to transition to alleviate that. I can't see how being a man and wanting to be pregnant and give birth overlap.

AspieAndProud · 19/09/2018 21:08

Could have been worse. Imagine if Blockbusters was still around. Getting a Blockbusters card was way harder than a passport or a birth certificate.

OlennasWimple · 19/09/2018 21:11

Look at the ad that just popped up on my side bar....

www.nightlight.org/snowflakes-embryo-adoption-donation/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2P-S6O_H3QIVxmrBCh1sDwbmEAEYASAAEgJ-TvD_BwE

(Which has given me the rage - "embryo adoption" - what an awful phrase)

Turph · 19/09/2018 21:12

True!

Yeah I don't get this at all

I thought you were talking about the telly programme with Bob Hollness for a minute Grin

Wrathofjurgenklop · 19/09/2018 21:32

Seriously, at what point do they start to be concerned about the baby?
Do they stop taking testosterone and start HRT? How is this considered safe for a developing foetus?

Worth a try I suppose Confused
