The Scottish Prison Service has not assessed the impact of including transwomen in the female estate on female prisoners

Our group has just set up our twitter account, and our first post was in relation to something that has left us completely stunned. A wonderful woman shared an FOI she had posted with us, and it shows that the SPS has not considered the impact on female inmates of their trans policies, including policies in relation to moving men to women's prisons, nor have they engaged with female inmates on the changes and they haven't consulted with women's groups either. Please see this link for more our statement: twitter.com/WG_Scotland/status/1042080194557816832
Also here is the link to the FOI: www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/equality_and_human_rights_impact

Infuckingcredible. We are nothing. Less than zero.

OldCrone · 18/09/2018 17:48

Under "Which equality groups will be affected by the new or revised policy/practice?" they have not checked the 'gender' box (which should, of course, be 'sex'). So absolutely no consideration that putting men in women's prisons might be a problem.

Melamin · 18/09/2018 17:50

Woman and Girls are really being hung out to dry. Lots of changes not in line with the law and no impact assessments anywhere.
We are being left to fend for ourselves on a severely tilting playing field with our hands and feet tied, whilst the world pretends it is not happening.

BettyDuMonde · 18/09/2018 17:55

This is why we need 50% actual-female-representation in parliament, on councils and in public bodies.

Decisions are made by whomever is in the room. We need to be in the room.

Without that we are invisible at a policy making level. This illustrates it perfectly.

Manderleyagain · 18/09/2018 18:03

I'm gobsmacked. I shouldn't be by now but I am.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 18/09/2018 18:05

The fuck?

And they said we didn't need feminism any more.

miri1985 · 18/09/2018 18:08

Am I reading that right that one of the equality groups they think will be affected by this is "age" but don't think that "gender" aka sex or those with "religion or belief " will be impacted?

I don't understand either why sexual orientation has any impact on it either and the document made it no clearer for me.

scepticalwoman · 18/09/2018 18:10

I'm not surprised at all. This issue has been framed by the bullying #nodebate. Trans activists know that in their midst are many sex fetishists / offenders / paedophiles and they knew that if women, let alone the general public, had an inkling of what what was happening it would be stopped immediately.
They were massively successful and it's only because of the persistence of women, that we now know that there are government and prison officials who think it's OK to put women at risk from assault from sex offenders in women's prisons. An idea so far removed from common decency and good safeguarding practice, it is breathtaking to think that these people are still in post.

DodoPatrol · 18/09/2018 18:10

We need to be in the room

How, if the first requirement to be in many policy-making places is to believe or at least say that TWAW? I can't do that, and I'm a crap liar.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 18/09/2018 18:14

So they have chanhed the equalities law from "sex" as a protected characteristic to "gender",

But either way they haven't even thought to consider even slightly or at all whether there could be an impact on women.

This is why convicted rapists with functioning cocks are being shut in with women prisoners then.

They are total fucking bastards every single last fuckign one of them.

I have had it with this.

I "peaked" years ago as the whole theory is so utterly illogical and detrimental to womens/girls rights and to gay men and lesbians.

This is the practice of the theory and I'm ready for a fucking fight. This is fucking outrageous. How can our lawmakers sleep at night. Same way they always did >> they are mainly men and they don't give a fuck.

The women who support this >>> WHY do they hate their fellow women and girls so much? Are they totally fucking STUPID? What is wrong with them.

I'm livid.

ImPreCis · 18/09/2018 18:31

And to add insult to injury they have addressed the FOI reply to Mr Surname!

boatyardblues · 18/09/2018 18:42

Colour me surprised! This whole thing absolutely stinks.

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 18/09/2018 18:46

I’m not surprised about this seeing at the Scottish women’s and feminist charities have a VERY cosy relationship with the Scottish Transgender Alliance.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/09/2018 18:47

Startingly similar to the Scottish GRA consultation which IIRC stated that it had not carried out an impact assessment on the potential impacts on women, as it wasn't relevant.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/09/2018 18:49

startlingly

NothingOnTellyAgain · 18/09/2018 18:49

So the Scottish Government has stated that women and girls are irrelevant and all policy flows from that?

Got it.

ILuvBirdsEye · 18/09/2018 18:55

Slight derail but... NothingOnTellyAgain I want this on a T-shirt:

they said we didn't need feminism any more

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/09/2018 18:57

Scottish women’s and feminist charities have a VERY cosy relationship with the Scottish Transgender Alliance

To be fair to these groups, they need to show they are inclusive to men to get Scottish Government funding.

LemonJello · 18/09/2018 19:08

Has anyone clocked this bit?

A trans person must not have contact or be in the same location at any time as a person who has been charged or sentenced to [sic] a transphobic crime

But there is absolutely no need to even acknowledge that women will have to have contact and be in the same location as FUCKING RAPISTS, let alone consider how they may feel about it.

LemonJello · 18/09/2018 19:09

And I don’t know how you are charged to a crime for fucks sake. They all need sacked. Now. Everyone named on that document.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 18/09/2018 19:15

The spelling on the document is shocking which I was a bit surprised about given it's an official doc.

Doesn't feel like it was taken seriously / reviewed by anyone etc.

Just bish bash bosh half arsed and oh look some women here are getting raped well whatever.

Manderleyagain · 18/09/2018 19:18

Dodo. This is it. It's so clever but simple. It's why the ideology has to be countered aswell as the practicalities. First make twaw a necessary statement of faith in all public bodies. Without the concept of tw and W as two groups it becomes impossible to pose the question - how does one effect the other? I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist!

Anlaf · 18/09/2018 19:19

What the fucking fuck

Selected highlights.

This policy establishes self id for Scottish prisons:
The SPS respects an individual’s rights to self-identify as male or female and commits to recognising People in prison or entering prison as the gender in which they choose to present.

In negative impacts, the impacts and mitigation:

There are vulnerable people in prison when faced by a trans person (pre operation) might induce fear to that person
SPS will take steps to support vulnerable and trans people.
Basically if you are mentally ill or have learning difficulties we'll support you to be less of a bigot.

A risk assessment is required which is not required in the community
SPS is aware of the risks presented by trans people and before making a decision have to be aware of all risks. A comprehensive risk assessment will give the SPs protection and protection to the trans person.
Note the SPS has assessed that there will be no impact on women from this policy. Job done.

There are people in prison for transphobic crimes
SPS have a duty of care and will take steps. A trans person should not have any contact or be in the same location at any time with a person who has been charged or sentenced to a transphobic crime. Cell risk assessment recorded on PR2 will identify anyone who is in prison for a trans phobic hate crime.
They are capable of thinking about risks, just not to women

It is problematic to change gender status on PR2. Which means a trans person might be recorded in the birth gender and not recorded in their social gender
If a Trans person is transferred to a prison that supports their Social gender they will be issued with a new number and a link to their old number will be recorded on PR2.
Does this mean their prison record will expunge their birth sex? So they (in their data) don't know who is male?

I can't believe I can they didn't check the "gender" impact box.

NotMeOhNo · 18/09/2018 19:19

Shocking. What about that UN thing that says sexes must be segregated? Do they acknowledge that?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/09/2018 19:21

What about that UN thing that says sexes must be segregated?

The problem is that if you believe TWAW that becomes meaningless.
