Women on the left are responsible for austerity

CarrotyO · 17/09/2018 21:59

I've heard it said that women on the left actually support and are therefore in some way responsible for austerity. This is because both Labour and the Tories support austerity. Therefore any woman who supports Labour, or the Left in general, also knowingly and consciously supports austerity and are therefore also responsible for the 1000s of deaths of disabled people caused by austerity. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I wrote about it at the time idgeofreason.wordpress.com/2015/07/09/karen-ingala-smith/
TYhat is the tweets of said political figure. Who while working in domestic abuse during eight years of austerity never noticed equality being rolled back. Thats not a cause for no platforming THAT is who decides the platform. Same with Ruth.,

RedToothBrush · 18/09/2018 17:17

That's my "problem"/s - I see wrong and I call it out - and get shot down often - people don't like/don't know how to handle their blind spot being revealed - and instead of saying thank you and let's see what I can do to rectify it, they attack, downplay, lie - all to protect their "reputation".

We are a mighty force for good on here as I imagine many of us have had to self-reflect in the face of warranted and/or gratuitous criticism. I learnt to put my ego aside and I observe that in others on here. I certainly had to work hard to learn what I was responsible for and what not. I hate the "say one thing and do another".......the hypocrisy of that stance and the unwillingness to take the log out of one's eye ......

If you ever get an opportunity to be at a Q n A session with a prospective politician or party candidate and you are at a loss as to what to ask, but want to engage and provoke debate ask

"what do you see as your politicial weaknesses / blind spots and how do you think you could improve on them?"

Its a revealling question and one that if you try and dodge or are insincere about or give a stock answer its very obvious.

You don't need to get an answer to it either - the point is to get the person and everyone else in the room thinking about the question...

'Breaking the glass' of the current political forces is all about making people to start to think again.

Re your squirrel situation Lisa, you should ask Norman Tebbit he wrote a roadkill cook book

Gals, roaches are the future, I thought we had established that early on in this thread ? (Angry did, actually).

Thanks for the link, lisa

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 17:24

I once saw a video in which someone was eating dried wasps as a snack.

If we're that desperate post-glorious revolution I think I might try chewing on my shoes instead.

lisamuggeridge · 18/09/2018 17:25

No point taking them head on but we have bypassed them, the bus Posie was thrown under has backed off, we have as much media power and clout as the women doing that, and when they try to push us to being a labour left tool we can juts bypass that too. Is what happens when women stand together, left are terrified of it.

DJLippy · 18/09/2018 17:25

I dunno about cockroaches but my cat's looking pretty tasty right about now. Bludgeoning your pet to death with a can of baked beans is hunting right? This Apocalypse is gonna be sweet.

lisamuggeridge · 18/09/2018 17:28

Squirrel update. We are having noodles and sandwiches instead. Squirrel is bony and no good for pate.

deepwatersolo · 18/09/2018 17:37

So, I'll be the only one going down the corckroach roast road? Oh well then, means there'll be more left for me...

lisamuggeridge · 18/09/2018 17:42

Be leftovers for stir fry too. I did actually genuinely once eat spiders in Cambodia. Apparently during the famine this town realised these spiders were a source of protein and it turns out they are quite delicious. You eat them like crabs and they are nearly size of your hand. You suck the meat out. Which is clearly revolting but it was delicous.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 17:43

Sorry but my willingness to sacrifice my stomach for the glorious revolution stops at bugs.

Wow just wow - that's what comes of refuges etc being taken over by govt funding with woke policies attached, and women working there cos it suits their image rather than what's needed - well that's the case where I am. I'll go read your blog piece.

btw The Slug and Squirrel sounds like a great name for our first sistapub.

Great idea. Irl I find when I ask that I am often disappointed at the lack of self reflection - we really do need consciousness-raising groups again irl as on here

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 17:45

In the presence of hand sized spiders I'd be too busy running away screaming to eat much.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 18/09/2018 17:46

Is Norman Tebbit really the best we can do for breeding stock?

Would make a good AIBU post - that no-one would get!!

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 17:47

AIBU to think that Norman Tebbit is not the ideal choice to repopulate the planet with?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 18/09/2018 17:53

Worse food I've ever had was sea slug with 100 year old eggs (soaked in urine). Cockroaches I don't think I could eat unless roasted and all traces of the shell removed - come to think of it - no, not even then. I had a hand-sized spider in the car recently on the dashboard - I've never moved so fast in my life. I have spider PTSD now and every so often driving along I suspect I see one on the dashboard again (common cause of road accidents).

Slugs are also off my menu just so you know when I come for lunch

womanformallyknownaswoman · 18/09/2018 17:54

YANBU!
Yes we could do better - and we need a non Cluster B man

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 18:00

May I suggest Keanu Reeves?

LangCleg · 18/09/2018 18:02

WPUK statement:

We can confirm that we have had a meeting in confidence with John McDonnell. That meeting was very constructive and John listened to our concerns and confirmed that women’s rights will be a matter of significance to any future Labour Government. We are pleased he disclosed our meeting to women on Mumsnet who have been at the forefront of pushing politicians on this issue. We encourage more political dialogue and reasoned discussion and hope this can now begin to take place.

Over the past year we have met with several key political figures. We are glad to see politicians increasingly willing to be open about wishing to meet with us and hear women’s concerns. We have been pressing for more such meetings and will continue to do so.

Respectful and open dialogue is the way forward.

Look, I like WPUK. I thank them for their courage and steadfastness and for creating space for women's voices. I like Ruth and Kiri and the others - more than Lisa does!

But y'know. WHAT WAS SAID? How do I know whether or not I agree? This is beginning to smack of WPUK speaking for me without checking with me. I have not given permission for any group to represent me with regard to any of this.

Lisa has more than a point here.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 18:04

In order to know whether or not women's rights will be prioritized first I need to know what both they and he think "woman" means. At this point they could mean "gerbil" for all I know.

LangCleg · 18/09/2018 18:06

That meeting was so fucking constructive and John McDonnell is so supportive that it was all in secret and nobody asked the hundreds of women who attended WPUK meetings or donated to them what they'd like to be said?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 18/09/2018 18:06

Can we have more than one for contingency purposes :)

James Kirkup?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 18/09/2018 18:12

YY - because WPUK hasn't committed to a definition of woman have they - just "Government to consult with women’s organisations on how self-declaration would impact on women-only services and spaces."

or are we getting more TWAW but you can keep some spaces? I need to go research WPUK more ...or does anybody know?? And yes why the secrecy and lack of consultation?

IAmLurkacus · 18/09/2018 18:16

WPUK were always going to be more committed to preserving Labour than anything. This is why I prefer FPFW to them.

Repeal the GRA.
