How's your 'sexual market value'? :D

Variously entertained and disgusted by tweets people are sharing of MRA/PUA types going on about women's 'sexual market value'. Apparently as women, our 'SMV' starts waning in our mid 20s and is gone by 35! Whereas men can keep it until they're older by being rich and successful.

Funny how none of them consider that some of us might be quite happy to not be seen as a fuckable commodity, and that we don't necessarily base out self worth around how shaggable men think we are.

Although I don't need it, because I have a DP who is rich and successful, and if he ever pops his clogs, I'm rich and successful, and can't see the point in another bloke..

Rich as in own a house, will retire in the next 5 years on a modest income. Successful in that I have two lovely kids, have lived all over the world, and can walk into another job if I need one, no hassle.

I haven't the faintest interest in how that type of man rates me. I'm interested in mature adults who don't value women on their sex toy properties.

My DH said men like that just can't handle an equal. They need women who know little about life to dominate and impress. Pathetic man babies.

I'm with Agatha Christie, who said you should marry an archaeologist as the older you got the more interesting he found you.

It's both hilarious and tragic that there's all these guys who think any sexually mature woman's life revolves around pleasing men. It's like 'Excuse me chaps, we don't actually have to do that anymore, cheerio!'

And older men are only of value if they are rich and successful. The rest of them - icky yucky, wouldn't want to have them anywhere near me thanks. I am as straight as 6 o'clock so far anyway, but I think older women are generally so much more attractive than older men.

Disgusting - I suppose that means no woman over 35 ever gets raped as they're worthless sexually? Sadly the stats bear out that some men see women as a sexual commodity regardless of age, only the fuckers want us to compete over who is most valuable and beg them to be attracted to us.

Will tell DH I'm officially one year too old to be sexy and he'll have to look after himself from now on, not to stealth boast but there will be tears.

It's all bollocks anyway. Of course you are prettier when young, but you can be sexy until you're old.
What's very very not sexy is insecure overgrown boys who try and make women feel worthless because they can't get one to shag them. It's a bit tragic really

Its so so so subjective what an individual person finds attractive in someone else.
I cannot fathom how women arent swooning right left and centre over my husband lol but actually he is not all of my friends cup of tea at all.
Equally i am left cold by some of the choices my friends make.

Men also are attracted to individual women, not some random standard! Age has nothing to do with it.

I think the beauty industry would collapse if too many women realised this though!

Agree that many women age better than men. I think women in their 30s and 40s look fab. Now in my 50s I am starting to look less fab, but so's my husband and I care less what random men think of my appearance now. I did my fastest 10 mile cycle time trial this year. That's more important to me now than looking cute and pouty (although I was always crap at that sort of stuff).
Most dating sites show single men struggle to get partners more than single women because we're fussier so I suspect the dating market value think is bunkum when it comes to real dating.

The whole "women don't age as well as men" thing is an attempt at a reversal that only exists because men know bloody well that we age better than they do and have better luck finding partners as we age.

The other angle is how dull older men are. I keep trying to get the motivation to start online dating again. But men my age are sooo boring. Older women are vital and interesting. Older men want to discuss the best route to somewhere or their jobs.

During my last stint of dating I had one who was such an appalling bore that I found myself leaping to my feet, saying I had no idea it was so late and rushing from the pub. It was 9.30.

Actually, remembering that date, I think I'll postpone my online dating again. No good ever comes from it.

I always find it fascinating what men base 'fuckability' on. Usually the ability to give them an erection I suppose. So I would imagine that older women are less sexually valuable to them because we often stop giving a shit about putting men's wants and desires above our own.

We might care how fuckable they think we are, if they were capable of having decent, enjoyable, enthusiastically consenting sex. But they're not, so we aren't.
