www.ctpost.com/highschool/article/Jeff-Jacobs-Fairness-questions-on-both-sides-of-13228179.php

“Botelho, from Voluntown, started running track in the sixth grade. She gravitated to the sprints.

Looking at the transgender athletes having so much success in the 100 and 200, we looked at it and said we needed to change what we were doing,” Morth told the Norwich Bulletin. “We needed to get out of those events. I had wanted Kalli’Ana to be a hurdler for while. She’s a great athlete.”

So Botelho left the 100 and 200 behind."

"And so she did. In June when Miller [transgender] won the 100 and 200 at the New England Championships, Botelho won the 300 hurdles with a personal record of 44.19 seconds."

Botelho said:

“But when I saw Andraya come out, I was like, this is going to suck. I’m going to be as respectful as possible. I have looked at her Instagram. She has wanted to be a girl, how she wants to identify herself, for the longest time.

“The newest transgender, I’m not as fond of the situation. In the indoor season (Miller) ran as a boy, practiced, competed as a boy. And then decided to change gender to a girl for the outdoor season, which really put a toll on the girls who worked maybe four years and had it ripped away from them.”

Like boiling a frog :-(

Legitimising cheating against sports women and girls.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/09/2018 14:45

It says this article is not available for 'legal reasons'??

doedoe90303811 · 14/09/2018 14:57

Helmet, hmm that might be the EU data regulations thing. Try this link, it should be the same. www.chron.com/highschool/article/Jeff-Jacobs-Fairness-questions-on-both-sides-of-13228179.php

These are the times

connecticutstatechampionships.runnerspace.com/eprofile.php?do=info&event_id=458

Terry set the girls meet records for both 100m and 200m in 11.72 and 24.17s respectively.

These times would be complete non-starters in the boys event, placing dead last.

urgh.

nopeni · 14/09/2018 15:01

It's totally cheating.

Why are sports authorities not speaking up on this stuff?

Helmetbymidnight · 14/09/2018 15:05

That poor woman!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/09/2018 15:10

Has anyone managed to read the comments? I have read the article but the link to the comments comes up blank.

doedoe90303811 · 14/09/2018 15:11

The article starts: The transgender issue in sports is a sensitive one, a complex and controversial one.

I don't think it's remotely sensitive or complex - or it shouldn't be. Males should not be competing against females, regardless of how they identify. If this is allowed then men will win everything and women's sports will die out.

What it is, is controversial. Kalli’Ana Botelho is extraordinarily brave to speak up and I applaud her.

FermatsTheorem · 14/09/2018 16:06

Good for her - what a brave young woman, speaking up so clearly. I hope she does fantastically well in her college career and in her athletics career. (And well done to her splendidly pragmatic coach - I like his attitude of "this sucks, but sadly it's how it's going to go down, so let's move you to another event where you can really excel.")

LangCleg · 14/09/2018 16:36

Me too.

We have separate events for men and women for a reason.

We might as well just have the men's events now.

nopeni · 14/09/2018 16:48

Seriously, why can't there be a transwomen category?

Assuming that more and more transgender athletes will emerge (given how many young people are taking drugs and having operations) it could be a sizeable category, and a fair contest.

littlbrowndog · 14/09/2018 16:51

That would not suit them at all

They want to be in the girls races

catherinedevalois · 14/09/2018 16:58

So who decided that sport is separated by gender and not sex? Honestly they must have seen this coming but I hope common sense will prevail in the near future. Not comforting at all for those girls/woman who are in their prime at the moment though.

OrchidInTheSun · 14/09/2018 17:02

What a brave young woman for speaking up. Maybe if all the girls decide not to compete against Yearwood and Miller, the authorities might have a rethink.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 14/09/2018 17:05

Girls move over and are shoved out, but boys don't compromise at all

Why is this sexual entitlement not illegal?

JellySlice · 14/09/2018 17:06

Sorry, but, brave as she is in speaking up, Kalli'Ana is being overgenerous. It makes no difference that Andraya "has wanted to be a girl... for the longest time" whereas Miller was a last-minute transitioner. Neither is less or more acceptable than the other. Both are dishonest and unreasonable. Neither of those male athletes belong in women's athletics.

VickyEadie · 14/09/2018 17:08

I wanted to be fucking head of the world for 'the longest time'. Didn't fucking happen.

AnchorMum · 14/09/2018 17:11

Getting so fed up of this now 😡

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 14/09/2018 17:14

Sorry, but, brave as she is in speaking up, Kalli'Ana is being overgenerous.

I read that differently, JellySlice. What she's being is diplomatic. She's making damn sure no one can attack her for personal animus against any individual. A wise precaution.

nopeni · 14/09/2018 17:18

She sounds terrified in the way she repeatedly tries to placate any TRA audience - whether she means to come across that way or not.

A young woman is scared of a bunch of men shouting at her for pointing out some obvious facts.

Society should be appalled at itself.

SophoclesTheFox · 14/09/2018 17:20

Cheating fucking cheats are cheating.

Well done to Kalli'Ana for speaking out.

And prawn is right. It's dead simple - penises to the left, vaginas to the right. Gender identities nowhere. (and none of it has anything to do with intersex).

JellySlice · 14/09/2018 18:01

I agree that she's playing it safe. Instead of focusing on her athletics, she has to waste her focus on avoiding cheats and placating idiots.
