I love this. Particularly her point about cognitive dissonance.

Delurking because that was bloody brilliant. It's not excluding men it's including women - what a perfect way to describe how i feel about this.

fufulina · 12/09/2018 13:25

Brilliant rant. I shared with my DH - we were talking last night as he still can’t really understand why u get so worked up about this. We have two DDs. To me / it is imperative that he at least understands my perspective even if he doesn’t agree.

This was just brilliant for that. Thank you for sharing.

fufulina · 12/09/2018 13:26

I - not ‘u’! I don’t do text speak ffs...

SunsetBeetch · 12/09/2018 13:26

Juells Kilgore Sprout on twitter posted pictures of Posie. He's a nasty creep, that one. Twitter pals with Dr Harrop.

I've been on MN about 13 years and hardly a week goes by without a thread about lazy SAHMs being no better than prostitutes. Unless your "where'd you see that, then?" was ironic.

You said feminists. I've never heard a feminist say that a woman's choice to look after her own children was letting the side down. The whole point of feminism is that women should be able to make their own choices, not be dictated to by others. Although, having said that, God alone knows what libfems would spout on the subject, since they are so inclusive of everyone apart from actual women.

I couldn't help laughing when she talked about some fucker on twitter criticising her looks. Quite apart from the fact that she's a really good-looking woman, if she wasn't good-looking is that supposed to invalidate her opinion?

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 12/09/2018 13:37

The whole fing problem about this madness is that there are not enough women who are privileged enough to demand their rights and say their opinions, no holds barred.*

Yep, this.

Unfortunately NOT ALL women have this privilege... that is my whole point.
It doesn’t make them any less of a feminist because of it.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 12/09/2018 13:49

Posie Parker has also said in that video that her children were tracked down via her MiL's FB page, and the photos used online (don't know how). Women have a lot more to lose, and a lot more to fear, than privileged men who want to virtue-signal, bully women, or think their feelings are more important

Truly awful. I wonder if the fear that someone physically stronger than us might harm us or our kids is really the root of fear of causing offense. It's actually fear of angering potentially violent men. Which of course makes sense alone but if the majority of women make it clear we don't buy thus crap.....we have power in numbers

tobee · 12/09/2018 13:49

I don't think she was implying people are any less feminist, was she? I took it that she allows that women have enough common sense to know when not to put themselves at risk. She urged people strongly but then went on to qualify that surely that's clear? The strong appeal was surely to encourage people to speak up who might not think they would be listened to?

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 12/09/2018 14:06

This is my opinion. My interpretation.
When you post a video online, it becomes open to other people’s interpretations and opinions.
I’ve said lots of good things about posies video and I enjoyed it.
I commented critically on two items that I interpreted in my way.
Posie giving permission to speak up and the interpreted belief (my interpretation of posies words) that women don’t speak up enough in their workplace.
I’m allowed to have independent thought. I believe I have a legitimate interpretation. I have not “dragged anyone down.
Sometimes we have different opinions. 🤷‍♀️

GenderApostate · 12/09/2018 14:07

There are plenty of high profile, privileged Women who could speak out if they wanted to. JK Rowling for one. She could reach millions by promoting FPFW / Womans place etc. People would listen to her. Yet she doesn’t, despite being branded a terf anyway.

Juells · 12/09/2018 14:09

It's a rant Grin We're allowed to be a bit OTT in a rant. I couldn't believe how articulate she was, how she made such brilliant points so eloquently even when going full belt.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 12/09/2018 14:12

juells
I like and admire her a lot.
I’ve done a similar rant (though definitely not as eloquent) at dinner with friends. Needless to say it was a tumbleweed moment....Blush

deepwatersolo · 12/09/2018 14:23

There are plenty of high profile, privileged Women who could speak out if they wanted to.

Ok, let's specify then: there are not enough high profile, privileged Women who feel directly affected, with (perceived) skin in the game. Rowling will probably never need to go to prison or a woman's shelter. Maybe not even to a public pool. Class shields elite women from much of the most dramatic effects of this lunacy, at least initially, I would assume.

Juells · 12/09/2018 14:27

But women who make even quite mild, polite requests - like Alison Moyet asking not to be referred to as a cis woman - causes a storm of abuse and terf-accusations. It just isn't that easy to speak out if you're a gentle, non-confrontational person. Some of the attackers are not playing with a full deck.

UpstartCrow · 12/09/2018 14:29

Stop naming and shaming women, unless you are also prepared to hold men to the same standard Angry

terryleather · 12/09/2018 14:29

I'd imagine that Rowling got enough pelters during the Indyref to make her think twice about wading into this - presuming that she is GC in the first place.

tobee · 12/09/2018 14:30

Well I think you've proved the point Beer. That you have independent thoughts and opinions and can do what Posie suggests or not. We all agree women have their own minds I think and hope?

Good point!

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 12/09/2018 14:39

The thing is tobee

I already do what Posie suggests.

When I said upthread about keeping my job for my two dds I had my friend in mind and was using it to make a point.
My dds are older. I’m out in an education facility and it’s going to cause (and already is) causing me great problems.
I leaflet on my own because my friends are afraid to. They instead spend their time emailing etc and contributing where they can.
Thank god people like posie exist. It is not without problem for her either, and I’m sure it has been at great personal cost.
I don’t agree that we should be asking nhs workers and teachers to speak up. Women already have it hard enough, why the fuck should they be expected to do all the heavy lifting. I don’t want my friends to feel like they’re not doing enough and I don’t want them to feel pressure to do something that’ll hurt them in the long run.
That’s all. Just my thoughts.

OrchidInTheSun · 12/09/2018 14:48

So MN has become a site where women like Posie are banned for telling the truth and which hosts ads for anti-abortion websites (see my post in Site Stuff).

FFS

tobee · 12/09/2018 14:49

Well those thoughts are worth putting down Beer. It can never be said too many times that women are actually fearful of speaking up, of making people aware of this.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 12/09/2018 14:49

It’s our mp’s, government officials etc MALE and female who should be pressured to stand up.
Why let everyone else bask in the freedom provided to them off the back of working grass roots women at their own personal cost.Angry

Datun · 12/09/2018 14:49

Gawd.

Posie has correctly identified that this issue has only been allowed to flourish through fear.

She has a wonderful vision that if every single woman stood up simultaneously and said no, it would create a tsunami of change. Because it's based on nothing but fear. There is no tangible argument.

Her experience at the workshop really hit it home. The women had been brainwashed through fear of upsetting men.

They were actually saying black is white because they're been frightened into it. Through the drip drip of menace, hyperbole and shame.

Posie knows that this is not about individuals and wouldn't dream of expecting a woman to jeopardise her livelihood and sacrifice her children.

It's a call to arms.

She is hitting the Zeitgeist of the beginning of people sticking their heads above the parapet and not getting them instantly blown off.

I don't think there's anything deeper to be read into it than that.
