Sorry, I mentioned this on another post today, but it stayed with me because I find it very disturbing.

Trawling through the posts of our favourite women's officer earlier (to find a comment or apology on Karen White-surprise! There was none) I found this thread offering to retweet anyone asking for financial support for surgery or other financial assistance.

Aside from the fact that most of these were in the US and therefore a little removed from the vicinity of Rochester (which might, arguably, be Lily's first concern), many of these people were very young, some had been abused and some had clear mental health concerns.

Lily wasn't asking for better MH provision or shelters for abused teens as any decent person would. Lily was asking for people to scan the smiley photos and desperate begging letters of very vulnerable people and offer them cash - presumably for solely altruistic reasons.

Lilly, apparently, thinks this is a "feminist issue" . I do too, but not for the same reasons.

I thought Lily was poor. How can Lily afford to go to Budapest and then California?

PersistenceIsNotFutile · 08/09/2018 07:11

I am haunted by pictures I've seen of 'top surgery' scars and necrotised breast tissue as a result of wearing binders.

I can't feel sorry for anyone who promotes this behaviour.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 08/09/2018 07:55

Bit of confusion over LM's GRC too. It came through at lightning speed a few months back, as announced on Twitter, but judging by some of LM's more recent tweets it must have been rescinded, because LM was tweeting about not being able to get married till the GRC came through. This terrible injustice must be investigated!

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 08/09/2018 10:24

Paintedwings, Appalled, but sadly unsurprised, by the sponsor money vanishing (possibly into Lily's California fund?). Lily really is brazen.

So this is a politician who:
Blocks anyone who asks questions or expresses any opposition however mild;
Ignores those they are elected to serve while promoting dubious campaigns linked to their special interest and indulges in sexist behaviours which again are in opposition to official role;
Has raised money in a way which could be construed as fraudulent and continues to beg for money in a way which could bring their office into disrepute (and surely might open them to blackmail?);
Has lied about GRC (and what else?);
Has branded victims of sexual abuse liars;
Shows an alarming detachment from reality (has said they are biologically female incl chromosomes and that they can't get married without a GRC which is nonsense);
Seems to have no interest in wider politics or the campaigning issues of their party;

Any more?
Frankly some of the above should be sufficient to remove an officer. Instead Lily is feted by Corbyn.

MinesaBottle · 08/09/2018 10:54

Lily has posted that Lily has decided to accept mental health support from Labour. No doubt the claims about raising money for charity will be brushed off as an MH episode.

BettyDuMonde · 08/09/2018 11:00

I’’m not sure how easy it is to remove an elected officer. The role only lasts a year anyway - can’t see that LM will be eligible to stand again, as presumably will be unavailable for meetings in Kent when living in London.

Glad that MH support has been offered.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 08/09/2018 11:03

Why doesn't Lily just come clean and change job title to 'trans women officer'?

ScreamingBird · 08/09/2018 11:35

I know it's not what she means but the idea of getting mental health support from the Labour Party legitimately a. cracks me up and b. horrifies me.

paintedwingsandgiantrings · 08/09/2018 12:46

Why doesn't Lily just come clean and change job title to 'trans womens officer'?

There was an LGBT officer post IIRC. But Lily didn't stand for it. Lily wanted the women's officer role.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 08/09/2018 14:21

I'm a real girl, Geppetto!

SuburbanRhonda · 08/09/2018 14:30

LM is doing things for the ladies. I think they are collecting San pro for those in period poverty

But this is a campaign that was started by others and is well under way. They don’t need someone claiming to be doing exactly the same thing but making it all about them.

UndercoverGC · 08/09/2018 15:47

The 'can't get married' claim.
Anyone can get legally married to any other person using the sex on their birth certificate. The law around same sex marriage is not identical, religious organisations are allowed to refuse to marry same sex couples, but if you just want a registry office ceremony, no issues there.

The problem for trans people without a GRC is that to be legal, the marriage ceremony has to use name and pronouns as per birth certificate. Most trans people would find this, in a formal ceremony as part of a joyful occasion in front of friends and family, to be upsetting.

The trans people I know who got married without a GRC did this by doing the registry office legal bit with just them and the required witnesses, then having an entirely separate celebration where they could use whatever names and pronouns they wanted.

Incidentally, it is legal for religious ministers to refuse to marry a couple if they believe that one of the couple may have acquired their legal gender through a GRC, even though they can't legally ask to see the GRC. This seems unworkable to me.

UndercoverGC · 08/09/2018 15:49

Caveat: there are some restrictions on adults who can't get married at all, or will have a lot of difficulty doing so, mostly around immigration law, or mental capacity. This isn't to do with trans, but it's worth knowing about.

DuckingGoodPJs · 10/09/2018 22:01

My main gripe is that she has done bugger all for women while being a woman's officer that I can see.

Strange how the only things Madigan seems to work on are things women don't really want/need, but males want more of. Totally inexplicable.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/09/2018 23:01

I don’t feel sorry for Madigan.
“A fragile , bitter doll with a mean streak” ...that reminded me of the Doll’s House by Rumer Godden. Rather apt, although LM doesn’t have the brains.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/09/2018 23:06

Only lasts a year ? LM has been in post longer than that surely? Or does it just feel like it?

ChattyLion · 11/09/2018 08:10

If a 19 year old girl had successfully stood for election to this same office of local Labour Party Women’s Officer and then she had had the exact same track record in the post (as listed up thread),
What would people say about her achievements for women in post?
What would people say about her conduct during her tenure?
How would the Labour Party have responded to her in post?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 11/09/2018 08:15

Wasn't there a teenage girl who held a position of something like media or Twitter tzar for about ten minutes before they discovered that, shock horror, teenagers can be silly arses that can't keep their mouths shut?

she was turfed out and didn't even threaten anyone (or to flash her boobs).

PerfPower · 11/09/2018 08:33

I also feel sorry for Lily Madigan. Just a brief look at their twitter account (and on the evidence of the Julia Hartley Brewer interview) this is a young person with a very low intellect being exploited by the LP and TRAs, and they have no idea.

hackmum · 11/09/2018 08:45

It's worth remembering the post of women's officer in a constituency Labour Party isn't a very significant one. It's just a voluntary position, like chair or treasurer or secretary, and the role is just to represent female members. Now Lily isn't doing a very good job of that, clearly, but there's not a massive amount a women's officer could do.

I think Perf is right about Lily being exploited. It also seems to be the case with Amy Challenor - the older, more savvy activists deliberately manipulate young, not very bright teenagers to promote the TRA message.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 11/09/2018 08:49

A young girl who behaved like this politics certainly wouln't last 5 minutes. Mhairi Black, whether one agrees with her politically or not, is erudite and intelligent and deals with far, far more offensive abuse.

Lily is now moaning about this thread, apparently Lily has done loads for MH provision for young people. Perhaps Lily should concentrate on tweeting that rather than how 'activism' has got Lily to Beverly Hills. Because that really isn't a good look for a member of the Labour party.

OP posts:
AngryAttackKittens · 11/09/2018 08:55

Unhappy young women begging for help because they want to have their boobs cut off, and then there's this person, who wants money to buy themselves a cleavage because being a sexy cleavage-y maid of honor is "every girl's dream".

www.gofundme.com/victoria039s-secret-maidofhonour-wish

A real politician in training would start a political campaign to provide funding via legit sources, rather than encourage grifting.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 11/09/2018 08:59

And, while I agree that the role is not significant and that Lily may be being exploited, it was Lily's own appalling behaviour - especially in regard to Anne Ruzylo that first brought them attention. Lily isn't dealing with a particle of the abuse Anne got, but Lily has the temerity to argue that it's unfair to criticize Lily's inane and - in the topic of this thread - dangerous comments because they are a poor young little 'woman'.

OP posts:
ChattyLion · 11/09/2018 09:05

I feel sorry for Lily Madigan because the Labour party is seriously failing in its duties to look after Lily Madigan. I’m not even including the mental health issues that Lily has tweeted about.

Fete-ing an office holder and self proclaimed future Parliamentary candidate while not holding the office holder to the basic minimum of normal standards is NOT equality or good representation.

It’s certainly not fair to women who need a women’s officer to be active in her post and always working to support their needs.

BettyDuMonde · 11/09/2018 09:50

Hmm. Yeah, usual Labour activism for someone in LM’s role is a bit of door knocking in their area (and maybe their nearest marginal if they live in a safe seat) and being the point of contact for women members and local women’s groups to get their views and positions heard through meeting motions.

Beverly Hills (nor anywhere else in LA, not even Compton or Skid Row) doesn’t appear on the door knocking data sheets.
