Seriously though, it's a good thing I'm not just starting uni now, I'd get myself expelled in the first week for laughing at this bollocks.

CookPassBabtridge · 26/08/2018 12:45

Crikey it reads like an episode of Black Mirror.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 26/08/2018 12:46

The guide advises that saying you “don’t care” which pronoun is used is offensive, as it “suggests that trans folks are silly for requesting that their pronouns be respected”.

I honestly can't respond to this without being banned.

Gawd, yes.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 12:46

"You will care, or else!"

PositivelyPERF · 26/08/2018 12:47

It’s also important to note that gender is fluid, and people may wish to change their pronouns throughout their life for a variety of reasons. Giving them the opportunity to do that without having to single themselves out is part of being a good ally to trans people.

FFS! So when they have bullied everyone into using their stupid pronouns and are no longer able wail about being victimised, so cease getting special attention, they can start all over again, with a new pronoun.

Snowflake ‘Boo hoo, you misgendered me!’ 😭
Confused person ‘but you said you were (insert bullshite title) 🤔
Snowflake ‘that was last week! I’m reporting you’ 😠😭
Confused person 🤐

PositivelyPERF · 26/08/2018 12:47

*able to wail

Depends if you’re laughing at Male bollocks or ‘female’ bollocks! 😁

Employees at Edinburgh Students' Union are already putting their preferred pronouns in their mail signatures. Only time I've ever seen it done.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 12:51

I've seen other unis do that. DH got an email with a signature like that and forwarded it to me all "wtf is this nonsense?"

BiologyIsReal · 26/08/2018 12:52

Wouldn't it be easier to eliminate that meaningless bollocks word 'gender' from the language?

Think how much time and hurt feelings you'd save by acknowledging reality - there are two sexes, that's it.

Not to mention FWR could go back to talking about women instead of devoting so much time to these other people who are taking up a disproportionate amount of time and space with their endless validation seeking.

I think that the badges are the work of members of Edinburgh University Students' Association. These people may be students studying at Edinburgh University or they may be people who support students there, but I don't think they are "Edinburgh University".

LinoleumBlownapart · 26/08/2018 13:12

I have never, in my life, referred to anyone as "she, he, or they" when I've met them for the first time. I think "you and your" are generally acceptable terms to refer to someone as. So now are supposed to go up to new people, look at their badge a be say "what's she/he/they/him/her/their name? " Confused
Are you and your no longer accepted because they make the assumption that you're a human?
I wouldn't make it past freshers week, why can't they hand out vodka jelly and leave people to get to know each other naturally, learning someone's pronouns is surely part of that process.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 13:14

It's partly the dopey earnestness of it that grates. Definitely coming from the students themselves.

WeWantJustice · 26/08/2018 13:14

My pronouns are Her Grace, Her Beattitude or Her Eminence.

I have a major tantrum if they are not used.

So you will please refer to me as such as it's an integral part of my identity.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 13:16

Pretend you think it's their name.

"Hello, She. What are you studying?"

"Welcome, He. Did you have a nice trip? Was the train crowded?"

"So, Zie, are you planning on living in halls for the first year?"

LetMeAtTheTat · 26/08/2018 13:16

My pronoun is Countess- but I often drop the o out of respect as I've heard holes can be triggering.

YeTalkShiteHen · 26/08/2018 13:17

The self indulgence of it all is just so bloody depressing.

ADastardlyThing · 26/08/2018 13:20

I was at a conference recently and they did a pronoun round at a break out session, about 10 of us, i was first............

.......Let's just say not a single other person entertained it either Grin there was quite a lot of smirking and eye rolling. I felt a bit sorry for the facilitator not

PositivelyPERF · 26/08/2018 13:20

I would end up offending everyone. They would all get called ‘that person’or by their name. So if I’m talking about someone standing some distance from me, it would be, ‘that person with the three day stubble and wearing a red skirt’. I would be ‘but I’m sooooo concerned about hurting their feelings, by using the wrong pronoun, I think it would be safer to use none.’ 😳😇😁

ADastardlyThing · 26/08/2018 13:21

My chosen pronoun was "symbol, like Prince" btw Grin

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 13:22

"Hey, you!" is both universally applicable and equally rude to everyone!

vesuvia · 26/08/2018 13:37

The photo of an "inclusive restroom" in the Telegraph article has been used all over the Internet for years. I suspect it is probably from somewhere in North America. It just seems to be a "go-to" stock photo for "inclusivity".

I don't think we can tell from the article if this type of toilet is already in Edinburgh University or if there are plans to introduce it.

LadybirdsAreBirds · 26/08/2018 13:44

My pronouns are:

Chopped liver and The cat's mother

LadybirdsAreBirds · 26/08/2018 13:44

AAK

Excellent one

Or maybe just 'Oi!'
