I don’t believe trans women are women, and I never have. I don’t believe it because it isn’t true.

If you are disturbed by this really existing state of affairs and want to blame someone, blame your God if you have one, blame evolution if it makes you feel better — blame reality itself (God knows I denounce reality regularly!) but don’t blame women who have the gall to say it.

I breathed an enormous sigh of relief after reading this. You can find the piece here.

Good stuff. And in other news the (male) president-elect of the Humanists Student Society has just been hounded out for re-tweeting the 'women don't have penises' message. And that's an organisation dedicated to rationality and logic. Couldn't make it up could you!

VickyEadie · 24/08/2018 22:09

Blimey - I think that makes about 4 now.

JellySlice · 24/08/2018 22:13

I see it as more of a “white lie” — a lie told, or in this case acted, in order to make someone’s life easier, to make them feel welcome, secure, safe, loved and accepted. But it is a white lie that blackens upon the declaration of itself. In short, for the purposes of making trans people’s lives easier, we have come to the conclusion that the truth cannot be told.

In making a new social taboo against saying something that is true we have gone down a rabbit hole into a land of mental and linguistic gymnastics where everyone knows the truth but no one dare say it.

I want to make it clear that although I don’t believe one can change sex, I fully support my trans brothers and sisters to live with dignity and respect free from oppression and discrimination and will continue to campaign for your rights. Live as women, live as men. Live how you like. I respect that. But I will not submit to dogma, unyielding demands for belief, bullying or censorship

JellySlice · 24/08/2018 22:15

Oops, sorry, was c&p-ing for my own reference. Meant to paste that into my Notepad!

TriptychTwins · 24/08/2018 22:17

They appear to be a bit behind the times with the debate Oldstyle

This whole thing is going to blow up pretty soon. The rumblings have already begun. The one good thing to come out of this whole damned mess, is that women can see more clearly who people are, not just politically - take a look at what the Labour Party think of women (not to mention the Greens, but we'll gloss over that for the moment) but also others with a platform, who have spouted the mantra TWAW and called us Terfs if we've questioned it. We see them now.

Don't worry Jelly

I had a little chuckle at this bit Mayor Joe Anderson (the corrupted and odious porcine git that he is) Grin

Honest, heartfelt and logical. Thanks for sharing.

pombear · 24/08/2018 22:28

Well done Connor.

It must be concerning for the trans-juggernaut that people like Connor and Jonny are breaking the silence right now.

They could dismiss many of us here as outdated dinosaur mums not understand the new world and history (oh, as usual, if only they knew so many of us thought we were 'allies' in the past, are were in jobs of influence, and took actions that helped the cause, before we took a look under the hood and realised what was actually going on).

I know they'll try, but it's waaay harder to attack Jonny and Connor - you know why! And a new audience will be looking at those attacks on them and going 'huh'?

TriptychTwins · 24/08/2018 22:33

You're welcome honestmushroom

He's a friend of Jonathan Best. Also, could people also leave a comment underneath the article in support of the piece. So far everyone's agreeing with it. People are heaving a collective sigh of a relief that others are saying what they themselves have been so afraid to.

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/08/2018 22:34

Oh, it's a great piece isn't it! He's a mate of lovely @JonnyBest too.

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/08/2018 22:35

X-post TT!

WomblingWoman · 24/08/2018 22:36

It's great to see more and more people within the LGB community talking about this issue.

Oldstyle · 24/08/2018 22:36

This whole thing is going to blow up pretty soon.
Hope so Trip - can't believe the combination of cognitive dissonance, sheer gibberish, rampant fury and (so very often) very poor dress sense hasn't imploded on itself yet.

Rebecca36 · 24/08/2018 22:40

Excellent!

Here's the resignation statement for Angelos Sofocleous, president-elect of Humanist Students UK.

heresyandwitchcraft · 24/08/2018 22:48

Absolutely excellent writing. Thanks for sharing.
And thank you to Connor! Flowers

TriptychTwins · 24/08/2018 22:58

Good grief silentcrow

This has to hit critical mass soon surely.

stillathing · 24/08/2018 23:01

Oh I really like this

IdahoJones · 24/08/2018 23:03

Penny Mordaunt is so fucked. First, Boris. Now, TWAW.

silentcrow · 24/08/2018 23:07

triptych support on twitter/medium looks alright for him at the moment (maybe just the timing, maybe the typical response to a straight man). Barely any dissent and a lot of "wtf are Humanists UK thinking?".

I'm not a member at the moment, but I certainly won't be rejoining if this is the level of critical thought we can expect from here on out.

Derwini123 · 24/08/2018 23:10

I don't believe trans women are women or trans men are men either. I also see it as very harmful to treat them as the sex they claim to be rather than the sex they really are. It's feeding into a fantasy of a mentally unstable person. The best thing to do is deny them their unscientific wishes and refer to them properly.

TriptychTwins · 24/08/2018 23:16

Exactly silentcrow

Men are being forced to address this now. Niemoller puts it best;

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

heresyandwitchcraft · 24/08/2018 23:24

Whatever happens, we need to remember our early feminist heroes who picked up on this first, and spoke out at exceedingly high personal cost.

TriptychTwins · 24/08/2018 23:28

Totally heresy I have them to thank for waking me up to this.

OP posts:
TriptychTwins · 24/08/2018 23:33

I'm also seeing them disappearing from my Twitter feed after being banned or suspended for speaking the truth.
