Trans man euthanized

Apologies if anyone has linked to this story before but I found this tragic. A girl born to a mother who only wanted sons. Transitioned but regarded her new body as monstrous.

“She was the girl that nobody wanted. She got that in her head,” Ms. Mesot said. “Maybe she thought, ‘When I’m going to be a man, my mother’s going to love me because she loves my brothers.’ I think that’s the reason why he started all the operations.”

I nominate this thread for Goady Title of the Year!

Really, OP. Couldn't you have tried a little harder? Like, "Mumsnet Kills Transman"?

busyboysmum · 19/08/2018 10:44

Sorry?

I think this person was mentally ill and thought transitioning to be a man would solve all her problems. As I think is the worry with a lot of teenage girls now surely?

However it did not. All her problems were still there. But her body was now mutilated as well.

How is this goady?

I read about this before. It's really sad Sad

Think TerfsUp must have misread?

greathat · 19/08/2018 10:55

Such a sad story. It seems they were failed too many times :(

NotBadConsidering · 19/08/2018 10:59

I agree OP. It's a sad story, an abused teenage girl who doesn't get the real help she needs, then surgery that goes wrong. A cautionary tale of what happens when transitioning is seen as the solution to a person's ills.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/08/2018 11:00

I can't imagine anyone here not finding this tragic on so many levels.Sad
Failed by family, failed by doctors, (arguably) failed by Belgian law.

VickyEadie · 19/08/2018 11:14

This was a seriously damaged (abusive, awful childhood, dreadful parenting) suffering severe mental illness.

This thread isn't the place, but it makes my discomfort over legalised euthanasia even worse.

VickyEadie · 19/08/2018 11:14

Missed out word 'person' from my previous post.

busyboysmum · 19/08/2018 11:19

Yes.

Such a sad story.

Neither surgery nor euthanasia should have been the answer here.

Will we soon be calling counselling people not to take their lives "conversion therapy" too I wonder.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 19/08/2018 11:21

God, that's so sad. I fear there'll be a lot of broken lives going forward. Transition doesn't appear to do anything to help with the many MH issues and/or trauma some of those who identify as trans are living with.

Coyoacan · 19/08/2018 15:54

They gave her surgery and then euthanasia instead of the help she needed, horrible.

TransplantsArePlants · 19/08/2018 16:00

My God, that is so terribly, terribly sad. A woman utterly failed by others.

SimonBridges · 19/08/2018 16:06

So sad.
Yet no one is allowed to say that for some people trans is a mental health condition.

Crwban · 19/08/2018 16:13

The mother's attitude was shocking. Truly abusive. Sad

Gncq · 19/08/2018 17:24

Euthanasia is legal in Canada? What a twisted place.

SimonBridges · 19/08/2018 17:39

No it isn’t. They are looking into it.
This is about someone in Belgium.

Noqont · 19/08/2018 18:21

I've read this before. Desperately sad.

noeffingidea · 19/08/2018 18:30

I don't see the issue. This person decided his life was unbearable and that he wanted to exercise his human right to end it. Instead of attempting to do it himself and possibly botching it or going through unnecesary pain and trauma, he sought professional and legal assistance.
Of course it's sad. It'd sad that so many people have such shit lives that they would rather be dead.

iogo · 19/08/2018 18:34

Gncq/simonbridges

Assisted suicide is legal in Canada.

SarahCarer · 19/08/2018 18:44

noeffingidea

I don't see the issue.

Why was this person allowed surgery in the first place? This was a woman who was so traumatised by sexual abuse and emotional abandonment that she sought to alter her body into that of a man. She needed serious psychological support and yet doctors saw fit to break her body at her request only to leave her permanently and severely maimed. So the medical profession cleaned up their mess by supporting her suicide. It's devastating.

HotRocker · 19/08/2018 19:51

Terrible, just awful.

Italiangreyhound · 19/08/2018 20:09

This story is so utterly tragic.

I really do not believe euthinasia should be allowed for these situations. It's heart breaking.

There might have been things doctors or physicists/psychologists could have done to help him. Sad

BarrackerBarmer · 19/08/2018 20:56

As a little girl she was raped by her brothers and rejected by her mother.

She bought the lie that she could actually escape her femaleness and become a man.

The lie couldn't be maintained.

The state helped her kill herself.

Everyone who has ever played a part in perpetuating the lie that people can change sex is culpable in this tragedy and in the deaths of all those who are 'affirmed' in a delusion that inevitably is eventually broken to devastating effect. Broken not by hatred or intolerance, but by unbendable reality.

SimonBridges · 19/08/2018 21:19

Sorry, I was basing assisted dying not being legal in Canada on that article. I didn’t realise it was a few years old.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 19/08/2018 21:25

My god
